Mr. Warner, Your Wife is Running Away Again!-Chapter 770: You Can’t Save Someone Who Doesn’t Want to Live
Norman Sutton just watched Lana Holloway safely return home, but did not follow.
Too many things happened today, they all need some time to calm down.
The development of things like this completely deviated from what Norman Sutton had expected.
He didn’t expect to propose to Lana Holloway so inexplicably, and even more unexpectedly, Lana Holloway seriously rejected him.
He felt terrible inside, worse than the first time he lost a match.
It took him a lot of courage, and now he feels like backing off.
At least today, he feels utterly defeated.
...
Lana Holloway stood under the showerhead, warm water pouring down from head to toe.
All she could hear was the sound of running water, as her mind replayed everything that happened today.
The comedy-like proposal, the unexpected kiss, and the painting bought for ten million...
She didn’t believe that someone like Norman Sutton, who grew up privileged, would genuinely like her; perhaps it was for teasing, or maybe just a whim.
When Norman Sutton bid ten million, she initially thought he was serious, because generally, people wouldn’t jokingly throw out ten million just for fun.
But then she thought again, for a "Young Master" born with a silver spoon, ten million might just be a game.
That’s why she disliked Norman Sutton’s actions and realized how vastly different their circumstances were.
She hoped that after what she said today, Norman Sutton wouldn’t bother her anymore.
Yet, touching her lips and recalling that kiss left her feeling chaotic inside.
A girl’s first kiss might not mean much to Norman Sutton.
Or perhaps, before her, Norman Sutton had already frivolously treated many girls like this.
She should be more at ease, and not care so much about these things.
...
March weather warmed up.
On the day Vanessa Sterling was discharged from the hospital, the pansy flowers in the greenbelt bloomed brightly.
This life was saved, but her mental condition remained poor.
No doctor, no matter how skilled, can save someone who doesn’t want to live.
When Vanessa Sterling’s condition slightly improved and she could move a bit, the first thing she did was to pull out all the needles from her body.
Luckily, it was discovered in time, preventing any uncontrollable situation.
From then on, Miles Sterling arranged for someone to watch Vanessa Sterling around the clock.
The medicinal treatment was almost complete, and the attending doctor felt Vanessa Sterling needed psychological treatment more, thus suggesting she be discharged to go home; a change of environment might help.
In the car, the driver silently drove, not saying a word.
Vanessa Sterling sat like a soulless puppet, not moving; since she woke up until now, she hadn’t spoken.
Miles Sterling sat beside Vanessa Sterling, separated by less than a meter, yet it felt like two people in completely different worlds.
Vanessa Sterling’s injuries hadn’t healed, and she couldn’t sit for long or walk by herself.
When the car arrived at the seaside villa, returning there once again, Vanessa Sterling looking out the window at the familiar yet oppressive house, didn’t feel despair anymore.
Her heart seemed to have died; she didn’t care about the past or the future.
As the driver got out to get the wheelchair from the trunk, he saw Miles Sterling going over to Vanessa Sterling’s side, opening the car door and directly lifting her out from the car.
"...Young Master." The driver called out to Miles Sterling, initially wanting to say he would get the wheelchair, but he saw Miles Sterling easily carrying Vanessa Sterling, already heading towards the house.
Vanessa Sterling was slight in stature, and she lost a lot of weight during her hospital stay.
As Miles Sterling carried her into the house, she didn’t struggle or resist.
She didn’t want to, nor could she.
Now, the only thing she could barely move were her hands; her feet were still in plaster, suffering from a comminuted fracture, and even if she survives, she probably won’t be able to stand in the future.
Thinking of that dark life, Vanessa Sterling didn’t even want a future anymore.
Everything in the house seemed unchanged from when she left.
The noticeable difference was the increase in people present.
There were private doctors, nutritionists, servants... enough to carefully attend to Vanessa Sterling’s daily needs.
Only upon reaching the room she previously stayed in did Vanessa Sterling notice something different from before.
The room was filled with medical equipment, like the intensive care unit she stayed in at the hospital. 𝑓𝑟𝑒𝘦𝓌𝑒𝑏𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝘭.𝒸𝘰𝑚
Rather than saying she was discharged, it felt more like the ward was moved home.
Miles Sterling placed Vanessa Sterling on the bed, knowing she didn’t wish to respond to him; he didn’t speak to her but softly instructed the waiting doctor, "You know what to do, right?"
The doctor nodded, "Rest assured, Young Master Sterling, we’ll take good care of Miss Sterling."
Miles Sterling let out a sigh, glanced at Vanessa Sterling lying on the bed with a vacant gaze towards the window, his expression visibly showing worry and helplessness, beckoned to the doctor, walked to the door, and gently closed it. Then, Miles Sterling calmly asked, "Have you reviewed her case?"
Doctor: "Understood, Miss Sterling’s current priority is to complement her body’s nutritional needs. If conditions improve, after a while she can start rehabilitation training for her legs."
Miles Sterling was silent for a moment, softly asked, "Is there a good chance of recovery?"
The doctor pursed his lips and answered quietly, "If Miss Sterling actively cooperates, regaining the ability to stand and walk normally is not a problem, but intense leg movements like running or jumping might have some impact."
Miles Sterling nodded, walking downstairs, saying, "Notify me immediately if there are any developments."
Doctor: "Certainly."
The necessary instructions were already entrusted early, so he didn’t linger unnecessarily; after settling Vanessa Sterling, he left.
He knew staying here wouldn’t help Vanessa Sterling recover.
But even if he hired the best doctors at a high price to treat her, would it truly fulfill his wishes?
Recalling the doctor’s words in the hospital, apart from physical healing, what Vanessa Sterling needed most now was psychological therapy.
Miles Sterling sat in the car’s back seat, searching his clothes pocket and found the business card Jasmine Lucas handed him before.
The contents of the card were simple, just the words "Bianca Jennings" followed by a string of numbers.
Without any basic introduction.
Perhaps because not being a formal psychologist, no introduction was included.
He remembered Jasmine Lucas saying that this person was skilled in hypnotism, able to make Vanessa Sterling forget the unpleasant past, leaving only what he wanted in her mind.
By then, he would become her entire world...
