Chapter 56 - 56: The Five Kage Summit

Mado felt like he was on the verge of death. He glanced at Amon Koutaro, who had already passed out from the earlier explosion.

Though Mado was stubborn to a fault, at his core, he was also a victim of the ghouls. Su Xiuyu had no intention of making things worse for him. With a small signal, he gestured to Uchiha Chisato to let Mado go. After all, the man was also a vistim of ghouls.

Having completed their objective, the trio turned and left, not sparing Mado Wuxu or Amon Koutaro another glance.

Of course, that small action of Wuxu calling for help didn't escape their notice.

In the Naruto World

With the Five Kage Summit now officially confirmed, preparations were finally complete. The meeting was to be held in the Land of Rivers—a tiny nation with no choice but to comply with the will of the five great nations.

Hashirama Senju, accompanied by his brother Tobirama, Uchiha Izuna, and Uzumaki Asaoka, set out for the summit. Izuna and Asaoka served as the Hokage's bodyguards.

Throughout the journey, Hashirama exchanged occasional words with Izuna and Asaoka, but the tension with Tobirama was palpable. Izuna didn't even bother acknowledging Tobirama's existence.

Tobirama's known hostility toward the Uchiha clan was reason enough, and as Madara's younger brother, Izuna had no interest in playing nice. As for the Uzumaki clan, they had completely shifted their allegiance to Su Xiuyu. Their alliance with the Senju clan was no more.

The group finally arrived in the Land of Rivers.

The Kages of the five great nations had gathered, and the official summit was scheduled for the next day.

The participants were:

Hashirama Senju of the Hidden Leaf Village

Guards: Uchiha Izuna, Uzumaki Asaoka, Tobirama Senju

Ishikawa of the Hidden Stone Village

No guards listed

A of the Hidden Cloud Village

Guard: Also A (each Raikage is traditionally named A)

Byakuren of the Hidden Mist Village

Guard: Future Second Mizukage

Reto of the Hidden Sand Village

Guard: Shamon

Since the meeting wouldn't begin until the following day, the Kage and their guards mingled that evening. Of course, political talk was off-limits for now.

As the bodyguard of the Kazekage, Shamon understood well that the Five Kage Summit would decide major issues shaping the future of the ninja world. Konoha, at that time, was the undisputed powerhouse. Its dominance overshadowed the other villages, making it a major topic of concern.

For Sunagakure, its geographical situation was a nightmare. Right next to the Fire Country—home to Konoha—it always felt overshadowed, even if Konoha had never directly threatened them.

To make matters worse, Fire Country was blessed with fertile lands, rich with natural resources. In contrast, Wind Country was mostly desert, making self-sustenance almost impossible.

This stark difference naturally fueled jealousy. Sunagakure had been dealt a crap hand from the start, while Konoha had everything going for it.

Shamon, a highly talented ninja, had always worked hard to earn his position. He wanted to prove Sunagakure's strength on the battlefield—and tonight, he saw an opportunity.

Spotting the younger bodyguard from Konoha, Uzumaki Asaoka, he came up with an idea.

"You're the Hokage's bodyguards, right?" Shamon approached, trying to sound friendly.

Unfortunately, Shamon had zero self-awareness about his appearance. His bald head, fierce expression, and a blue dragon tattooed across his forehead—with claws inked around his right eye—made him look more thug than diplomat. On top of that, his usual lack of a smile made his current grin seem forced and shady as hell.

If Su Xiuyu had been present, he probably would've cracked a joke about a discount Yakuza knocking on the wrong door.

Izuna and Asaoka exchanged glances, silently wondering why this gangster-looking dude had come over to bother them. Everyone else was chatting with their own people. Why this random bald guy chose them was a mystery.

"What do you want?" Asaoka finally replied. Izuna, keeping with his prideful demeanor, didn't even look up.

Shamon looked relieved that at least one of them responded.

"I heard Konoha's full of talented shinobi," Shamon said. "I'd like to spar with you. We're close in age, so it should be fair, right?"

He emphasized the age bit like it made it any less obvious that he was trying to bully someone younger. Asaoka could barely hide his annoyance.

This dude was clearly playing the "I'm still young too" card, even though his appearance screamed middle-aged hitman.

"Even though you look way older, I guess your request isn't unreasonable. I'll accept," Asaoka replied coolly.

"I'm only 29!" Shamon snapped, flustered.

"Oh, so you're 29, uncle. I'm just 16, so yeah... Uncle it is."

Shamon grit his teeth in frustration. Surrounded by Kage and guards, he couldn't afford to blow up.

"In that case," Shamon said through clenched teeth, "let's test our skills as shinobi. All the talk in the world doesn't mean anything in battle."

With that, he began forming hand signs.

Asaoka shrugged. "Sure. Let's get this over with."

Shamon had been waiting for that confirmation. The moment Asaoka agreed, he activated his technique.

"Ten Chikamatsu!" Shamon unfurled a scroll, summoning his ten puppets.

This was no ordinary puppet jutsu. Shamon himself had created this technique. It would later become the foundation for Sunagakure's renowned puppet arts.

That's right—Shamon was the originator of Sand Village's puppet technique. Among the younger generation of Sunagakure, only the Kazekage stood above him. His strength, intellect, and contributions to the village were nearly unmatched, which is why he would eventually rise to become the Second Kazekage.

The surrounding Kage and guards watched the scene unfold with interest. Even Kazekage Reto didn't intervene. To them, this was just a little side show—a convenient opportunity to size up Konoha's new blood.

"This technique's mine," Shamon said smugly. "And the weapons are all laced with poison. Be careful."

Shamon wasn't warning Asaoka out of kindness. He was covering his own ass.

With Konoha being led by the God of Shinobi, Senju Hashirama, any foul play could provoke serious consequences. So Shamon played the magnanimous role, pretending to warn Asaoka, when in reality, he just didn't want to be held accountable if things went sideways.

-----------

"I've already made it clear—if anyone gets hurt in the next fight, don't come crying to me."

Suddenly, one of the Chikamatsu Ten Puppets—a fat one—snapped open its belly, unleashing a barrage of poisonous needles like a hailstorm.

But Uzumaki Asaoka wasn't some naive rookie. He'd seen plenty of these kinds of attacks before.

"Water Style – Water Formation Wall!"

With a single hand seal, Asaoka summoned a shimmering wall of water that shielded him from the poisonous downpour with ease.

The surrounding spectators, including several prominent shadows, couldn't hide their surprise. The kid's mastery over Water Style ninjutsu was shockingly refined—almost like a younger version of Tobirama Senju himself.

Some couldn't help but glance at Tobirama.

"Hey Tobirama... you sure Asaoka isn't your illegitimate kid?" Hashirama asked, half-joking, half-serious.

Tobirama rolled his eyes. "Brother, come on. I don't have time to mentor the Uzumaki Clan. It's probably Su Xiuyu's doing. That guy dips his fingers into every kind of ninjutsu."

"Ah, yeah, that tracks," Hashirama nodded. "Su Xiuyu does dabble in just about everything."

On the battlefield, Shamon wasn't wasting any time. After his poison needle barrage failed, he directed his chakra threads to send the remaining nine puppets charging toward Asaoka. As they advanced, they launched wave after wave of poisoned shuriken and kunai.

Asaoka and Uchiha Izuna hadn't come here to just stand around—they intended to show the world what the Uzumaki and Uchiha clans were really capable of. With Shamon so eager to play the role of target dummy, Asaoka didn't even need to pull out the big guns.

"Earth Style – Earth Flow Wall!"

The defensive wall rose, effortlessly blocking the projectiles. Then the nine puppets closed in for melee combat.

But Asaoka met them head-on with nothing but chakra-forged swords and pure taijutsu. The so-called siege by the Chikamatsu Ten was a joke against his skill.

Watching from above, the First Kazekage Reito was growing increasingly embarrassed. Shamon wasn't doing badly per se, but after all his flashy efforts, he hadn't landed a single solid hit. Still, Reto couldn't call it off—not with the Kage from all five nations present. The shame would've been too much.

Shamon knew his puppets weren't cutting it. Time to go all-in.

"Wind Style – Wind Cutter!"

It was one of his signature techniques. But Asaoka vanished before the blade even got close, using the Instant Body Technique to dodge.

"Don't tell me you taught him that too?" Hashirama asked, shooting Tobirama a sideways look.

"No!" Tobirama snapped. "I didn't teach the Uzumaki anything! What are you going on about all day?"

The two brothers weren't exactly subtle. The other Kage just chalked it up to Konoha showing off.

"Wind Style – Thousand Faces of Wind!"

"Wind Style – Great Scythe Gale!"

First came a flurry of razor-thin wind blades, followed by massive sweeping gusts. The scale and density of the attacks were impressive enough to make the other Kage take notice.

"Let's see you dodge that!" Shamon shouted.

But Asaoka just calmly formed two hand seals.

"Earth Style – Multiple Earth Flow Walls!"

Massive walls rose up in quick succession. One of them even had a ferocious Kaiju carved into it—a detail only Uchiha Izuna recognized.

Asaoka was getting irritated. He could've ended this fight long ago with one powerful jutsu, but he was holding back to avoid unnecessary consequences. After all, the Uzumaki clan wasn't lacking in chakra.

Still, if Shamon insisted on dragging things out, Asaoka was done playing nice.

"Water Style – Water Severing Wave!"

It was Asaoka's first offensive move of the match—and it was brutal. A high-pressure stream of water shot out like a laser, tearing through Shamon's puppets and heading straight for him.

But Shamon wasn't a fool. He used the recoil from his Wind Style to leap into the air just in time.

Asaoka didn't stop.

"Water Style – Exploding Water Colliding Wave!"

"Water Style – Great Waterfall Technique!"

"Water Style – Water Dragon Bullet Technique!"

"Water Style – Riding the Wave!"

The terrain turned into an endless ocean. With the momentum of Riding the Wave and the speed of Instant Body Technique, Asaoka took control of the battlefield.

At this point, he decided to end it. If Shamon kept dragging this out, it'd only get more annoying.

The Water Dragon loomed behind Asaoka, mouth wide open and swirling with deadly chakra. The control he exhibited was on par with the Mizukage and Tobirama—few in the world could match it.

The entire area had transformed into a sea. Thankfully, Hashirama had created a stone platform with Earth Release so everyone could stay dry. Aside from the Tsuchikage, no one had more mastery over Earth Release than him.

"Hey, Tobirama," Hashirama muttered, still watching the fight. "Are you sure you didn't secretly teach him? That Instant Body Technique and his water jutsu—it's basically you all over again."

Tobirama exhaled sharply. "Brother, when are you going to get married? You're not getting any younger. Our Senju clan isn't going to keep itself going."

Hashirama immediately deflated, losing all enthusiasm. Relationship talk was his weakness. He'd been so focused on realizing his dream of peace that he'd never found time for love. And now, with the dream fulfilled... he had no idea where to begin.

Back in the fight, Shamon was starting to regret ever issuing the challenge. With the entire terrain turned into Asaoka's playground, there was no path to victory—only the hope of not losing too badly.

To make things worse, all his puppets had been shredded by that Water Severing Wave.

Now, he had no choice but to rely solely on his own ninjutsu.

But Asaoka wasn't finished.

"Water Style – Water Dragon Bullet Technique... x9!"

Nine water dragons burst forth in unison, spiraling toward Shamon like summoned monsters. Asaoka was done being polite. This was it.

He would end it—and make damn sure no one would dare call this fight meaningless again.
