Mummy Evolution-Chapter 43: Student and Mentor 2
In fact, Sett himself hated the ability.
"What’s up?" she asked.
"This ability’s name is… Murder Soul. I don’t like using it, but you asked." He stepped back a few paces, giving himself space. "I need something to kill first." His body blurred in place, him having moved faster than normal sight.
When he returned, there was a caterpillar in his hand.
"Another ability that has to do with corpses?" she asked, frowning. "Why are you so wary of it?"
Sett didn’t hesitate—he crushed the caterpillar with a thought.
For a moment, nothing happened.
The corpse twitched. A shimmer passed through it, and from the ruined, bloodied husk, something unnatural emerged.
A butterfly.
But not just any butterfly.
Its wings were a brilliant, ghostly blue, glistening like wet ink under moonlight. Ethereal, translucent, yet wrong. The edges of its form shimmered with an oily sheen, and though it was undeniably beautiful, there was something poisonous about its presence, something that made the stomach churn.
Without hesitation, it took flight.
Sett watched it go, unbothered, as it drifted soundlessly through the air, searching. He and Ismera followed with their eyes, tracking its slow, hypnotic dance through the training ground. Then, it found what it was looking for—another butterfly, pristine and white.
The blue specter descended upon its prey, melting into it, fusing like ink bleeding into water. For a heartbeat, there was no change. Then, the white butterfly twitched.
Its movements became erratic, its delicate form spasming in the air. And then, without warning, it turned.
Straight towards Ismera.
Its wings beat frantically as it darted toward her, its tiny mandibles parting. Then, to her horror, it bit her. Not a mere brush of wings, not a harmless touch—a bite.
The delicate creature was attacking her.
"What abomination is this?" she asked, crushing it to death.
"See?" Sett said, turning back to Ismera. "It’s the effect of Murder Soul—anything I kill can turn into a creature like that. Once they are born, they’ll immediately find and possess something alive, even people, and then will become incredibly murderous."
"Anything you kill can become… these things?"
"They don’t have any combat ability. In fact, a Murder Soul made from a Tier 5 body and a normal man will be about the same—just transparent phantoms with eerie looks. But the thing is, they can possess others and inherit their potential.
"At the same time, they are ’evil’ to the bone."
"Can you control them at all?"
"No. Not even a bit. In fact, some of them are so eerie, they even make me feel stifled. They are also very cunning and callous."
Ismena bit her nails. "This is a last resort if anything. But don’t use it too much, this is too dangerous."
What if he ended up creating enough of these things to make it so that one cannot distinguish between normal living beings and these?
More than that, Sett can create an entirely new species in the world’s food chain!
The mere thought was terrifying, and since it was Sett, the political center of this era, who had it, it was even more dangerous.
She shook her head. He was a sensible child, all things said and done. And if anything, Neilara wouldn’t let things become too chaotic.
Not to mention other limitations this ability might have.
"Forget about all that. What else do you have?" She asked.
Sett breathed out. He really didn’t like talking about that ability—it always felt as if it weren’t his own ability. It always felt terrifying.
Sett straightened up, brushing off his unease. "Next is Death’s Call. It’s a debuff—it works best if I can guess what someone is thinking. The more specifically I can see their thoughts, the more powerful the debuff."
"Eh?" She blinked many times. "Use it on me, let me see."
He pointed at Ismera. "Let’s say you’re worried about… I don’t know, my future? And I can also guess many of your other thoughts.
"Like I know how you are worried about my mother even though you don’t show it. And I know that you think I am cute—not handsome. And hmm, I know a lot of things about you."
Even the color of clothes she preferred. Her taste in wine, her distaste towards pretentious nobles, and her general dislike of men.
He knew a lot about her.
Ismena coughed. "Just use the ability, damn kid."
Sett closed his eyes briefly, then snapped them open, his pupils dilating as a faint, cold aura radiated from him.

The air around Ismera seemed to thicken, and a shiver ran through her as tendrils of colorless aura brushed against her skin. For a split second, her stance wavered—her shoulders slumped slightly, and the confident gleam in her eyes dulled.
Even she, a Tier 5 Tomb Raider, felt her heart shrink.
Sett was already a Tier 4 Tomb Raider, but he was merely a Tier 2 Axiom Holder. He wasn’t even using his True Form. But even then, she felt her entire body drain of energy.
It felt as if she had died long ago, decayed through the ages, and what stood now was just a weak body.
Startled, she almost stumbled, but her grandson caught her.
The debilitating effect only lasted for a moment before she shook it off, blinking rapidly.
"Damn," she said, rubbing her arms. "That felt… heavy. Like my strength and durability just dropped a couple of Tiers."
"It’s… usually not that effective," he replied. "I need to use my True Form to affect people like you even a bit. But I just know you too well."
She shook her head. "You are a smart kid. And you have a sharp pair of eyes. As you grow older, you will learn how to read people even better than you do now.
"And this ability will become a bane against physical combatants who want to fight you. I think this is your decisive ability other than Life Share."
Sett shrugged, pouting. "There are much better combat-type abilities out there. Like my mother, she could kill me within seconds. I don’t think I can fight her, even if I am of the same Tier as her."
She pinched his cheeks. "You do act like a kid at times."
"I am not a kid!"
"Brat, even if you don’t have as much destructive power as your mother, it doesn’t matter. Your abilities each have the potential to change the tide of any situation, and that’s where even she might have to bow to you."
"Really?"
She praised. "If you were a more mature Axiom Holder, I might not even be qualified to teach you. Most probably, you will be stronger than me in a few years."
Sett smirked and held her hand, walking out of the training camp. "Then there is River of Reincarnation ability, which you already saw before. It can reincarnate someone hut can only be used once a year."
They chatted as they left the training grounds.
Sett strutted out like a prince, no longer so nervous. He had grown so used to the disparaging words from his mother that he had started losing some confidence in his own skills.
This is not enough, you are not strong enough, this is weak.
You need to do more, be more.
I was better than you at your age.
It’s all the damn girls.
On the other hand, Sett loved being with his grandmother. Whatever he did, she would praise him for it. And she was so beautiful!
She walked forward, regal and pretty. "Let’s go raid some Tombs, grandson."
He was eager to follow.
