Mummy Evolution-Chapter 48: Nobles? Commoners?
Lord Burrhen was going to turn this city into a land of ghosts, but he was not going to hurt nobles. Nobles were not like commoners. Commoners were filth, they were allowed to die. To become the playthings and slaves of nobles.
But nobles were human.
How could anyone bear to hurt fellow humans on such a massive scale?
How can he let this anger go unnoticed?
"I will kill you to sate all the anger in my heart, you don’t deserve to call yourself a noble!"
Sett tried to break the wisps of smoke curling around him but they were persistent. So he just ignored the smoke and left the alley.
But then, he frowned.
The smoke in the entire alley followed Sett, seeping into his skin.
"This is my power!" White said coldly. "Feel it. Understand that you are not invincible. That you will die. And feel the fear."
The entire alley worth of smoke vanished in a split second and Shining White appeared there, face pale.
This ability took a lot of his energy.
But as he watched Sett, he felt satisfied.
Sett’s face had become completely purple.
A scythe made of smoke appeared in White’s hands and he walked towards Sett.
Grabbing Zainah and Zarah by their clothes, Sett backed up with all his strength. He could still run and move because he was a mummy, but this much poison was doing a number even on him.
Sett had a feeling that he wouldn’t last long.
The smoke kept leaking from his body but he could feel the damage it was doing.
"Oh, you truly seem like a mummy," Shining White said, his own movement slower than usual as he followed Sett. "Is your Axiom the Axiom of Mummies or something of that sort?"
Sett ran past alleys and rooftops, jumping through walls and city squires. And as he put sufficient distance between Shining White and reached a city squire, he stopped.
Shining White also stopped, watching the city squire silently from the top of another building.
The place was in utter chaos.
Many people’s faces were cracking, revealing a dark nothingness behind the skin.
Ghosts.
Sett watched with distaste.
A man smiled, a woman in his arms. Half of his face was a dark broken vase. He ran a knife through the woman’s back, slowly cutting her back open.
She had long died and thus, her corpse remained unresponsive in the man’s arms.
"Wife, should I cook dinner or will you?" the man asked.
Daggers appeared in Sett’s hand and he threw them perfectly at the ghosts. The sharp tools tore through the throats of unsuspecting bystanders as he ran past, crimson coating his face. Zarah had fallen unconscious but Zainah watched everything with shrunken eyes.
Sett touched a ghost with his palm and suddenly the ghost vanished.
He didn’t stop to bother with it and continued massacring the ghosts on his way as he ran past. Many of the ghosts vanished after he touched them, but he didn’t care as he moved forward.
Zainah just closed her eyes.
When one person died, it was a tragedy. When many died, it was a statistic.
Soon, Sett stopped in place.
He was surrounded on all sides by buildings and there was no path forward. He had reached a roadblock. Sett turned around.
Shining White was behind him, looking exhausted as he stood there.
"Tier 4 is coming," he said. "And it seems to be targeting stronger people. It just killed Yellow and Grey. Are you afraid now?"
Sett tensed.
His killing ghosts must have attracted it here.
The poison had gotten to him already, so Sett was weakening with every passing second. In fact, Sett wasn’t even standing straight anymore.
He was wobbling, staring at Shining White with unsteady eyes.
And White found it a particularly pleasing sight.
Shining White moved forward, the smoky scythe once again in his hand.
Sett closed his eyes.
If Zarah had been awake, she would have noticed something.
Sett’s heart beat, a single beat—but with tremendous impact.
This heartbeat was different, as if it took the energy of many beats and beat at once.
It was like the sound of an ancient beast awakening from its long slumber.
Axiom of Reincarnation—Death Begets Life.
This was Sett’s favorite ability.
His true healing ability.
Shining White stood close to Sett, his shadow covering him, but Sett’s golden eyes were bright, cutting through the darkness.
Inside Sett’s inner Tomb, many ghosts had appeared.
He had absorbed them into the Tomb on his way here.
Yes, he couldn’t absorb living beings into his Tomb, but he could absorb dead things.
And Ghosts, obviously, were not living beings.
Those ghosts within his Tomb began to die one by one, and they all transformed into wisps of dark energy. Death energy. Then, that dark energy moved through Sett’s entire body, healing his known and unknown wounds.
All of their energy entered his heart, spreading into his entire body with a tremendous heartbeat.
Sett had tried to use this ability earlier, but due to lacking death energy, he had failed.
"You were a scary dude," White said, raising his weapon.
"And you were an idiot!"
Sett opened his eyes.
Axiom of Playfulness—Game of Benefits.
White was briefly distracted, looking towards Zainah.
Sett stood up straight and wrapped his hands around White’s body.
His body was even stronger than Sett’s and Sett couldn’t even leave a dent on him normally.
But ignoring the pain in his body, Sett used his Axiom with a shout.
Axiom of Reincarnation—Death’s Call!
White felt his body become weak as if he had decayed for hundreds of years. He felt the fear of death closing in, and he suddenly felt immense fear. But he held on for a second and stared coldly at Sett’s face.
"Do you think I will die that easily?"
His body transformed into smoke, making Sett’s hand pass through him.
But Sett smirked.
Limitless Ability—Tomb Lord.
A huge chunk of the smoke vanished.
It appeared inside Sett’s Tomb!
Shining White rematerialized in Sett’s embrace, his chest missing a big chunk of flesh. Sett hugged him even tighter, pushing his hand into the man’s chest and gripping his heart.
"How?" White asked, incredulous.
Sett pulled, pulled until nerves were cut and the heart was torn out.
Shining White stared at his own heart, feeling more anger than anything.
He was angry at himself.
At the world.
At Sett.
Why had he fought this man when he should have run away?

Why had the world not gone his way?
Why was Sett so powerful?
Why had he died such a meaningless death?
Wasn’t his life supposed to be more meaningful?
"In this world, there are nobles and commoners, the rich and poor, the beautiful and ugly," Sett said, throwing the heart aside. "When a person becomes richer or nobler, they suddenly start thinking that their life is more valuable than the life of a poorer or less nobler person.
"But is that truly the case?"
Sett laughed coldly.
