Murim's Weakest Princess-Chapter 232: Triage System
Although the doctors knew about Anji’s exit from isolation training, nobody was expecting her to show up at the Hidden Palace. Most people would spend at least a week trying to re-adapt to society after emerging from isolation training. Yet, Anji was not like most people. Before they could reconcile with her presence, they were being swept away by her new proposal for a triage system.
"Hold up," Doctor He was the first to speak up. "Before we do anything about the triage system that you speak of, are you allowed to be moving already?"
Anji blinked and tilted her head to one side.
"I’m not sick," she declared. "After yesterday, I’ve adapted to the light naturally. I even had a good meal before I came here."
It was true. Senior Researcher Mo could not remember the last time he ate anything decent if Anji did not drop by with food from Aunt Wine. It reminded him of the old times when Anji would visit Senior Researcher Ke before she was promoted. How time flew!
Feeling sceptical, Doctor He insisted on examining Anji first before allowing her to involve herself further. As neither Doctor He nor Doctor Yun were cultivators, they let Senior Researcher Mo have the final say.
"She’s very healthy," the senior researcher declared. "Possibly the healthiest I’ve seen her. Not only has her cultivation base increased a little, but her golden core is very stable. The surgery paid off."
Looking proud, Anji beamed. She worked hard to be healthy. Unlike a year ago, she was no longer the weak and sickly girl everyone knew. If not for the weak cultivation base, Anji would not require food or sleep. She still required them from time to time, but not as frequently, thanks to her constant breathing technique.
Reluctantly, the two doctors welcomed Anji back to the crazy situation. Although they had taken a temporary break due to Anji’s reappearance, it did not change the dire circumstances. More patients flooded the building as they spoke. Although the other researchers could still cope, they could not stay away for long.
Anji cut to the chase. The triage system was not very different from the established resources. However, a new workflow was required to maximise the efficiency of their limited resources. Nobody knew the Mystical Qilin Sect better than her shifu. After shadowing Yan Ping for a while, Anji learned some tricks with her own twist.
"It’s not very difficult," she promised. "We will be altering the workflow a little, but everything else remains the same."
Starting with the point of arrival, Anji noticed how the majority of the referred cases were related to advanced miasma and curses that the regular squad researchers were not trained to dispel. Most senior researchers were able to easily dispel these curses on the spot, but the time it took for them to individually dispel these cases hogged the attention of experts, leaving more critical cases at higher risk during the transfer. 𝙧𝙚𝙚𝔀𝒆𝓫𝓷𝙤𝓿𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝙤𝓶
"If we set up a pre-dispel that triggers on every arrival, we can save time to redirect focus to more critical cases," Anji explained. "Although it consumes more qi, it saves time and, in return, more lives."
Following this logic, Anji reassigned the locations for different purposes. The training ground was used to house more severe curse and miasma poisoning cases, where more senior researchers should be stationed on rotating duties due to the proximity of the teleportation array already available in the Hidden Palace. More severely injured patients who required medical attention should use the Hidden Palace rooms where medical personnel like Doctor Yun and Doctor He were stationed for immediate access.
"As for the recuperating cultivators that are no longer in life-threatening situations, we should move them to the research labs closer to the main district and open up lower-level cultivation chambers for those who require rehabilitation to recover their meridians and cultivation base. Those who have recovered enough to move should return to their various sects for full recovery. We cannot overextend our resources."
Just as Anji said that, a voice from behind took her by surprise.
"And what makes you think you can overextend your duties here?"
Jumping from her seat and hiccuping from the surprise, Anji whipped around to see her teacher standing behind her. Although she was now equipped to sense energy signatures, Anji was not able to do this on the same level as her constant breathing energy refinement technique. She still had a long way to go if she wanted to complete her successor training.
"S-shifu!" she gasped between hiccups. "Ci Wang greets shifu."
Sensing how nervous Anji was in her presence, Yan Ping felt a tinge of guilt. Was she too harsh on the child yesterday? However, seeing how bold Anji was made her think otherwise.
"What are you doing here?" she questioned. "Didn’t I give you an assignment?"
Perking up at the neutral tone she was used to hearing, Anji took a peek. Yan Ping did not seem angry. If she did not think yesterday’s incident was real, she would have thought it was a bad dream. However, the scent of blood surrounding her told Anji it was not a hallucination.
"I have placed the report on the dining table," she reported confidently. "Shifu, please allow me to contribute as the successor of the sect. Although the Mystical Qilin Sect has a strong foundation with many experts, the casualties far outnumber our talents. Maximising them will shift the efforts in our favour to develop more important things in this war. Please allow me to do my duties and postpone my successor training for a week."
Clear-minded, firm and determined. Anji has never been surer about what she wanted to do. Yan Ping had to admit that her successor had grown from someone who needed protection to someone worth protecting. It was like watching a young tiger cub learning to hunt and trying to catch its first prey.
"One week," she told Anji. "I will review your report in the meantime. If it cannot be completed by then, you will still have to resume your successor studies regardless of the result."
It was not a negotiation or a compromise. It was a deadline with finality, but Anji grabbed the opportunity with both hands and bowed deeply.
"Ci Wang thanks shifu for the chance! One week is all I ask for."
Without replying or acknowledging anything, Yan Ping left just as suddenly as she appeared.
One week was neither long nor short. However, it was just enough time to see if Anji would be able to keep her promise and handle heavier responsibilities.
