Chapter 275: Two Hands to Clap

After spending a whole day driving the horse carriage the day before, Gu Ying insisted that she took the reins instead. Hence, Yihao spent the time inside the carriage with his younger sister. Instead of the warm reunion he had in mind, the space between them inside the small enclosed space felt awkward.

In terms of size, Yihao had to be the biggest of the three siblings about to be reunited. Although he was two years younger than Zhao Mingshen, his Extreme Yang Body and training far surpassed someone who was focused more on espionage. He had to be almost as tall as their father and with more room to grow until adulthood, Zhao Yihao had the confidence to become just as big and muscular as his teacher.

Compared to his beefy frame and obvious brawler style, Zhao Anji seemed like a fairy-like scholar and not a martial artist or cultivator. There was definitely a mysterious sense of elegance clinging to her, befitting of her title as the Mystical Qilin Sect’s youngest successor. What surprised Yihao more was the maturity. Anji was still as soft-spoken as before. However, she had a different type of steel in her that Yihao sensed, even if he did not truly understand what it was. His sister had definitely grown stronger, even if she was still on the smaller side.

Even if Yihao remained silent, Anji could sense his awkwardness and curiosity. It was only natural. Of the three older siblings Anji had, Yihao used to be the closest to her. He quite enjoyed no longer being the youngest in the family and took his older brother role very seriously. Although it felt like aeons ago, Anji still vaguely remembered the times he would carry her on his back when she could no longer walk, so she could feel the sun and see the flowers. Although Anji was now well enough to walk on her own, she had a feeling her third brother would still carry her on his broad back if she ever needed it. They might appear rather different after a few years apart. However, blood ran thicker than water.

"Brother Yihao," Anji broke the ice first, knowing her awkward brother would never be the first to speak in fear of damaging their relationship with his brutish manners. "It’s been so many years. How tall are you now?"

The simple question was all it took for the muscular teen to brighten up like a golden retriever. Given how smart his younger sister was, he had been afraid there would be no suitable conversation topics between them. Unlike Mingshen and Anji, who had been studying and polishing their skills in the last five years, Yihao had never touched a book or spoken to a single soul since being isolated apart from Bai Dajin. When he first emerged from isolation, the servants who spotted him almost fainted from the spot in fear because of how wild he appeared. Thankfully, after a few months of acclimatising to civilisation, he regained his ability to speak, even if he had completely forgotten how to read or hold a brush.

Puffing his chest proudly and flexing his new muscles, Yihao claimed to be at least five chi. At fifteen years old, he was very tall. Anji remembered her father and mother to be tall, but nobody grew as quickly as her third brother. If he had a few more years, he would quickly reach her father’s height and even surpass him. Maybe the training Bai Dajin taught had a hand in the unusually broad physique. Like the White Tiger Sect Leader, Zhao Yihao had an exceptionally broad back that could not be properly concealed even with baggy clothing. Compared to him, Anji was like a doll standing at three and a half chi.

"I think you might be as tall as Brother Mingshen now," she commented. "Even Sister Ruiting is not as tall as you now."

Feeling proud of his growth as a sign of his progress, Yihao laughed in the same boyish grin she remembered in her childhood. Her third brother might have grown physically, but he was still the same warm-hearted and sincere person she knew.

"You think so? I don’t think I can beat her in a fight still. I wanted to become an Enlightened Core before I emerged from my isolated training to match her. However, I hit a bottleneck and needed to find Uncle Bai. Who would have known our sister had already broken past the Enlightened Core stage to become a Radiant Core expert? Even our mother hasn’t reached that stage. She’s such a monster!"

Frowning in disapproval, Anji chided her third brother. Although he meant well, not everyone is as tolerant of his unfiltered comments. Truthfully, a small part of Anji wondered how he would react if he knew she was the true monster without the Artificial Cores limiting her progression.

"We still have some time before we reach the Eternal Night Valley," Anji hummed. "Would you like me to give you a hint to get to the edge of the Enlightened Core?"

Surprised, Yihao stared at Anji for a long time as if she had suddenly grown three new heads. According to his estimation, his younger sister had just reached the Solid Core stage. He was in the advanced Solid Core stage on he cusp of advancing to the Enlightened Core. How could someone who had recently broken into the Solid Core give advice to someone who had already been in it for a long time?

Still, he shrugged. It did not hurt to listen, right?

"Sure," he nodded. "But please make it simple. Unlike you and that nerd, I haven’t touched a single book in the years of isolated practice. Mother dropped her teacup when she learned I had forgotten how to speak. Forget about reading and writing, I spent the last few months practising conversation just so that I could meet you again."

Anji blinked in surprise. Was it truly that bad? How could anyone forget how to speak? Then again, unlike her with the lost souls, Lady Bi Yao and Lady Mang Yuan to communicate with, Zhao Yihao spent his isolated training in true isolation for a much longer period than her. She had no idea how Bai Dajin taught her third brother. However, it would be an intellectual guess to say the White Tiger Sect Leader spoke more with his actions than his words, resulting in Yihao forgetting the human language.

The skill of harmonisation with different energy signatures was a unique art to the successor of the Mystical Qilin Sect. Although Anji swore an oath to only teach it to the next chosen successor, the concept was similar. Truthfully, Yihao only needed to do one thing to completely break through to the Enlightened Core Stage. However, she feared it would be difficult due to his extreme Yang nature.

"The Enlightened Core requires the equipping of dual energies in normal cases, to become one with nature. However, Brother Yihao, you have an Extreme Yang Body and integrating Yin energy is impossible for you. From the books that were in the Mystical Qilin Sect, the only way for an Extreme Yang Nature to learn harmonisation is through converting natural energy in your body and processing it into pure Yang form instead of accumulating Yang Energy from within your Golden Core."

Although clear, the explanation only confused Yihao. How does one convert natural energy into Yang Energy? Even Bai Dajin told him that his energy was naturally abundant. Was there such a need? Then again, his younger sister would never lie to him.

"How do I convert natural energy? Is it like eating?"

Although simple, the logic was similar. Anji nodded but corrected him. 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝙚𝔀𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝒐𝒎

"It’s breathing," she told him. "You can eat spiritual herbs to convert their natural properties into spiritual energy. But for Enlightened Core, to become one with nature means to breathe it instead."

It was the simplest explanation she could give to her smooth-brained brother. However, it seemed to be the exact clue he needed to try.

For the rest of the journey, while Gu Ying was in charge of steering the horses, Anji subtly guided her third brother during his meditation in an attempt to achieve the new breakthrough. Unlike ordinary cultivators, Zhao Yihao did not need to go through tribulations. After all, it took two hands to clap, and the Extreme Yang body had no other energy attributes that allowed for clashes.
