My Ability Pool is Superior-Chapter 32 - 31: Chaos Erupts
Evacuation center, District Two.
A burly man wailed as he crashed through the tent, staggered a few steps, and then collapsed on the ground, convulsing uncontrollably.
One side of the tent was pushed up, eventually tearing open, and two zombies charged out, roaring as they lunged at the nearby crowd.
District Thirteen.
A woman holding a baby stumbled and ran towards the command building, with a zombie in hot pursuit behind her.
Judging by their speed, it was only a matter of time before they’re caught, but no one was willing to offer this mother and child assistance at the moment.
District Twenty-six.
Several tents erupted into roaring flames, with cries and screams echoing chaotically.
Some citizens panicked and curled themselves up in blankets, praying that the zombies wouldn’t find them.
But many more citizens chose to take fate into their own hands, escaping their tents amidst the chaos.
Those with a bit of sense were rushing towards the military camp, while numerous citizens shocked by the sudden upheaval were running around the evacuation center like headless chickens, inciting even more chaos.
The chaos spread like a plague, rapidly expanding.
The high population density of the evacuation center was indeed a concern, but unfortunately, it was impossible to resolve in a short time.
So when zombies appeared in the evacuation center, the situation quickly spiraled out of control.
Of course, amidst the panic, there was a group of people who remained calm.
Strictly speaking, the chaos in the evacuation center was intentionally created by some among this group.
"Dong dong da dong~ dong dong~ dong dong da dong~ bang! bang! bang!"
A young man in a gray hooded sweatshirt hummed a tune, shaking his head leisurely as he headed to the research center.
His relaxed demeanor was completely out of place compared to the fleeing crowd beside him, as if he wasn’t in the same time-space continuum.
A young man with a colorful explosive hairstyle crouched atop a tent, shading his eyes with a hand as he surveyed the surroundings.
Admittedly, most people do this gesture to block the sun, yet it was midnight, and clad in formal attire, he exuded an odd mismatch.
Three men in black suits gathered together, notable for wearing sunglasses at night, accentuating their peculiarity.
One of them, a bald man, spoke: "Boss, things aren’t right. Didn’t we just capture three infected? Judging by this commotion, there might be seven or eight places with infected."
"Tch, it’s obvious many have the same idea as us now," the boss sneered. "Never mind, it’s to draw the military’s attention, the more chaos, the better."
The bald man hesitated: "But boss, I’m worried even the military won’t be able to control the situation, considering how the base houses tens of thousands of people."
...
Research Center Building.
"What’s happening outside?"
Zhou Zongming frowned as he quickly walked to the window to inspect the situation.
Being midnight, visibility was low, all he could discern was that chaos erupted at the evacuation center.
The specifics of what was happening were unclear.
His confusion was short-lived as two phone calls rang one after the other.
Zhou Zongming and the rapid response squad captain exchanged glances, instantly realizing something serious was amiss.
Both answered their phones simultaneously, and listening to the information from the other end, Zhou Zongming’s face turned extremely grim.
He strode to the quarantine door, punching it with icy determination: "Who the hell did this?!"
Intuition told him Ah Gu knew the reason, possibly even involved in the chaos.
However, Ah Gu merely chuckled mockingly, uninterested in responding.
Though subtly, most Death Fighters harbored a subconscious superiority over the "locals," the differences merely lying in depth of contempt.
The urgency of the situation was palpable; seeing Ah Gu’s clear lack of cooperation, Zhou Zongming wouldn’t waste time on him, promptly issuing orders to the rapid response squad members.
"He’s highly skilled; leave four guards here. If he exits the quarantine room, no need to report, shoot him on sight immediately.
Old Yang, swiftly take your men and seal off the passages between evacuation center zones, if necessary..."
Zhou Zongming paused, then proceeded: "If necessary, authorize opening fire on citizens trying to force their way, you must hold until the second and third battalion clears the infected."
The evacuation center was divided into forty districts, housing nearly fifty thousand people.
Though eight districts were infected by zombies, the situation hadn’t reached its most dire point yet.
Understanding this, Zhou Zongming knew issuing this order meant citizens within infected zones could only rely on themselves.
It was a harsh reality; choosing between fifty thousand and thousands made the decision evident.
Decisiveness was crucial, allowing no room for compassion; otherwise, all thirty-odd remaining districts would be doomed.
Quickly, apart from the four guarding Ah Gu in the lab, the entire rapid response squad evacuated the research center.
Once everyone was gone, Lv Bai, silent throughout, finally stepped towards the window.
"Ke Jianghao isn’t your real name, is it?"
Zhou Zongming shot Lv Bai a glance, battling a desire to seek answers from him but deemed timing inappropriate—he needed to be in command on-site.
"I’ll settle accounts with you afterward. It’s chaotic enough, stay put here, and don’t cause more trouble."
He didn’t call for Lv Bai’s detainment, leaving with these words abruptly.
The spacious lab fell quiet again.
Lv Bai silently observed the scene outside for a while, exhaling deeply before addressing Ah Gu in the quarantine room: "I reckon these four can’t stop you, but no matter, see if you can manage an escape."
His amiable smile amidst this scene was chilling at best.
The four guards, hearing Lv Bai’s apparent disdain, felt displeased.
Yet before words could protest, they watched, startled, as Lv Bai agilely scaled the window sill and leaped out.
Witnessing the spectacle, the four guards exchanged bewildered looks.
One guard’s eyes nearly popped out: "Wasn’t this... the fifth floor?"
Thud!
Lv Bai landed heavily, kicking up a cloud of dust.
With the strenght from [Blood Burst], he didn’t even require a roll to disperse the force of impact.
"Can’t owe favors anymore; an ease of mind becomes too burdensome,"
He straightened up, reflecting jokingly.
Then his expression hardened as he stepped forth, harnessing the earth’s returned wild power, exploding forth rapidly.
