My Aloof Husband Can't Stop His Devoted Affection-Chapter 68 - 0: Did you hear everything?
Chapter 68: 068: Did you hear everything?
Listening to his righteous and assertive words, Lu Shishu couldn’t help but laugh. She stopped in her tracks, crossed her arms, and looked at him, "Tsk, should I say you’re overconfident or just plain arrogant? What do you mean by ’it’s only a matter of time’? Are you so sure Cen Jin will be yours?"
"Naturally." He replied with unwavering certainty, without a hint of hesitation.
Lu Shishu chuckled, "It’s been so many years, I really admire your confidence, but when are you going to confess your feelings to her?"
"It’s not time yet."
"Not time yet? Then when will it be the right time? When a prince charming shows up around Cen Jin, will you start to panic? Let me tell you, Cen Jin is so beautiful and has such a great personality, she has numerous admirers. I’m sure you’ve known this since high school and university."
Jiang Baizhou listened to her casual tone, his expression slightly darkened, and his eyes narrowed slightly. How could he not know about these things?
During high school, he didn’t even know how many love letters he’d intercepted for her, or how many times he’d disrupted confessions aimed at her. He always knew this girl was outstanding, so outstanding that he wanted to hide her away and admire her by himself. Yet, though he could act rashly and ignore consequences regarding everything else, he could not do so when it came to Nie Cenjin. He had to be careful, very careful.
He didn’t want to distance himself from her, nor did he want to lose her, so he wanted to be absolutely certain.
"Tsk tsk! You hide your feelings so deeply, nobody can tell, how could Cen Jin sense it?" Lu Shishu shook her head, looking as if she was enjoying a good show.
She remembered one snowy evening after school, during the first half of senior year, when she stayed late for the art club. By coincidence, she witnessed a scene that one could hardly expect to see even in a hundred years: Jiang Baizhou, wearing a gray down jacket, was blocking a boy half his height. The boy wore a black down jacket, looking shy and timid, with glasses on. She remembered the boy had passed Cen Jin a love letter just two days ago.
She wasn’t interested at first, but as she was about to leave, she heard a cold, deep voice, "Stay away from Nie Cenjin in the future."
Lu Shishu paused in her tracks, listening a bit more intently.
"What does Senior mean by this?" The boy adjusted his glasses and looked at him, somewhat confused.
"Exactly what it sounds like," Jiang Baizhou replied indifferently, "She’s not right for you."
"Then does Senior mean that Senior Sister Nie is right for you?" The boy mustered his courage to ask back, muttering, "But it seems like Senior and Senior Sister Nie are just friends!"
"Friends?" Jiang Baizhou cast a sidelong glance at him, "Whether we’re friends or not is none of your business. All you need to remember is to stay away from her." After saying that, he pulled the strap of the backpack on his left shoulder and turned to leave.
"Does Senior like Senior Sister Nie?" The boy shouted unwillingly at his retreating figure.
Hearing this, Jiang Baizhou paused his steps, standing in silence for a moment, then turned to look at the boy. Handsome and charming under the winter sun, his expression remained cold yet at peace. He didn’t deny it, but instead calmly admitted, "Yes, I like her, so I won’t allow any other man to covet her."
When Lu Shishu heard these words, the lollipop in her mouth dropped to the ground in shock. When he walked over from the other side, they happened to bump into each other. Lu Shishu reacted, smiling and waving her hand, greeting him, "Hey, what a coincidence. It’s so late and you’re still here!"
Jiang Baizhou was equally surprised to see her there and instinctively glanced around, making sure that familiar figure wasn’t there. Somehow, his heart suddenly felt at ease.
"Ahem, did you hear all that?" Jiang Baizhou raised a hand to cover his mouth, the awkwardness in his eyes immediately dissipating, calmly asking.
