My Amnesic Ex Married My Sister, So I Married His Uncle-Chapter 127: Been a Dog for Too Long, Now Comes the Karma, Huh?
’I knew Zion Shawcross was a little odd, but I had no idea he was *this* odd.’
’Why on earth would I have anything to fight my uncle for?’
’Besides, even if there were, I wouldn’t stand a chance.’
’I have no idea what that guy is thinking.’
Faye Rhodes speechlessly twirled her index finger by her temple, then walked off to the dining room to continue eating her small cake, leaving the studio to her uncle and aunt.
’As for Zion Shawcross...’
’He can go bother Maurice and Sutton.’
Zion Shawcross stood in place, one hand in his pocket, watching the girl in the dining room. She was so delighted by the delicious cake that she was practically beaming.
’Forget it. I’d better not disturb her while she’s eating.’
’I’ll just count it as my good deed for the day and go scout out the enemy for that kid, Ryan Shaw.’
Zion Shawcross walked into the small adjacent room used for monitoring and equipment adjustments. Sutton was the only one inside.
Sutton, with some time on his hands, had put together a quick time-lapse video of the painting process.
It didn’t show the artist, just the canvas as the painting gradually came to life.
Even for a simple rough cut, the visuals were incredibly rich.
Watching the canvas go from blank to a finished piece gave one an inexplicable sense of satisfaction, as if they had taken part in its creation.
Sutton noticed Zion Shawcross watching.
When the video ended, Sutton said, a little smug, "What do you think? Not bad, right? Even just this, I bet it would make a huge splash online. This painter is the real deal."
Zion Shawcross nodded. "Definitely."
He’d been amazed by the progress photos Faye Rhodes sent to the group chat every day, but that was a completely different feeling from watching the artwork come together piece by piece with his own eyes.
’I think I’m starting to understand why Ryan Shaw recommended Umi so strongly.’
Excited, Sutton shared more of his thoughts.
"Zion, since we’ve already filmed this, I think we should definitely use it. If it can’t go in the official music video, we could release it as a making-of featurette. I think the fans would love this kind of behind-the-scenes content."
’He’s right.’
A good project drives sales not just for the work itself, but for its related merchandise as well.
Take him, for example. A hit song’s popularity could drive ticket sales for his solo concerts.
And once a concert tour was scheduled, it would generate a whole series of revenue streams—from merchandise to spending in the host cities and so on.
Zion Shawcross thought Sutton’s idea was a good one.
"I’ll discuss it with Henry."
’It shouldn’t be a problem,’ he thought.
’They would just need to discuss the release format for the featurette.’
He was silently mulling it over and didn’t notice Maurice had returned.
Sutton, however, spotted him as soon as he turned his head.
Eager to share what he and Zion Shawcross had just agreed on, Sutton quickly said, "Maurice, where’d you go? I just told Zion about making a featurette, and he agreed!"
Only after speaking did he notice Maurice Ford was frowning, looking completely exasperated.
"Maurice, what’s wrong? Don’t tell me they shot down the featurette idea..."
’He was counting on the featurette getting approved so he could get a bigger bonus.’
Maurice Ford shook his head and looked at Zion Shawcross.
"Zion, Henry just called. He told me to design a new version of the music video for the theme song. He wants a story with a female lead, and her character is supposed to be a painter..." 𝑓𝑟ℯ𝘦𝓌𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝑐ℴ𝓂
No matter how Maurice thought about it, something felt off.
At first, he hadn’t understood what Henry Wright meant, thinking he wanted them to edit footage of Umi herself into the video.
But then he understood: they were to shoot an entirely new story-based music video, creating a female lead character to associate with Umi’s painting.
’This isn’t good,’ he thought.
It felt too much like they were trying to steal someone else’s credit.
Moreover, Henry Wright had hinted that the female lead for the new video was someone being pushed on them from above.
That made the whole thing feel even shadier.
But this kind of backdoor dealing happened everywhere.
He was just an employee, so it wasn’t his place to interfere. He’d just dump the problem on Zion Shawcross.
After all, it was for Zion Shawcross’s album.
Zion himself had made the final call on the plan for the first version of the video, so Maurice figured this time would be no different.
But Maurice couldn’t get a read on Zion Shawcross’s attitude, so he asked, "What kind of story outline do you think would be good?"
Zion Shawcross’s expression was languid and indifferent, and Maurice had no idea what he was thinking.
On the monitor in the room, footage of the two people in the studio was playing.
The two of them looked close and comfortable with each other.
Zion felt that, given their relationship, he probably wouldn’t even get a chance to get involved.
Something shiny flashed across the screen.
He stared intently and realized it was the wedding ring on Owen Rhodes’s left ring finger.
’Come to think of it, I have heard that Owen Rhodes is married.’
’Henry Wright had a long face every day back then, radiating more resentment than a vengeful spirit.’
’It even got me lectured several times. He told me to be extremely careful about what I said in public, in case someone suddenly decided to target me.’
’I didn’t really care, to be honest.’
’I’m just a guy who writes songs; I don’t have any scandals attached to my name.’
’But...’
’Does this painter, Umi, know that Owen Rhodes is married?’
’She must know.’
’The ring is huge. She’s not blind.’
’But if Owen Rhodes is married, why is Faye Rhodes so blatantly trying to set the two of them up?’
’Either Faye Rhodes has lost her mind over her idol, or...’
A rare glint of alertness appeared in Zion Shawcross’s languid eyes.
’Things aren’t quite what I thought they were.’
’And of course, that punk Ryan Shaw definitely can’t use his phone right now.’
’The Shaw Family probably knew all along that Umi was married, but they must have kept him in the dark.’
Zion Shawcross’s brow furrowed.
Seeing him remain silent and now frowning, Maurice Ford grew nervous.
Just as he was about to ask what to do, Zion Shawcross stood up and walked out.
He walked over to Faye Rhodes, who was happily eating, and rapped his knuckles twice on the table in front of her.
Faye Rhodes glanced up at him, her expression clearly asking, ’What?’
"The woman in there, is she your aunt?"
"COUGH, COUGH, COUGH..." The question startled Faye Rhodes so much that she choked.
Zion Shawcross poured her a glass of lemon water, then moved to pat her on the back to help her catch her breath.
Faye Rhodes dodged to the side, her almond-shaped eyes wide with shock.
"Who told you that?"
"You did."
Faye Rhodes: "?"
’She didn’t deny it, which is basically a confirmation, right?’
Zion Shawcross casually placed the dessert fork back in her hand. "It’s nothing, just curious. Go on, keep eating."
As he turned to leave, Faye Rhodes grabbed his arm. "Don’t tell anyone."
"Okay."
’No wonder she was so ecstatic on the day she signed the contract, like she was high on something. She must have just found out then that the idol she’d adored for so long was actually her aunt.’
’So she couldn’t contain her excitement...’
’That’s good. It means I still have a chance.’
’Just as I thought. That punk Ryan Shaw has been a simp for so long, and now karma’s come to bite him, hasn’t it?’
’Serves him right for calling me in the middle of the night and waking me up!’
’He deserves it!’
