My Amnesic Ex Married My Sister, So I Married His Uncle-Chapter 144: No Manners, Call Me Little Aunt
Owen Rhodes always knew how to surprise Stella Sterling in these ways.
In her dreams, when she relived the music video shoot, Stella would still feel her heart swell with sweet happiness.
She’d had such a wonderful dream that when she woke up, she felt completely refreshed.
By the time she had gotten ready and come downstairs, it was already past two in the afternoon.
When Tate saw her come down, she hurried to the kitchen to stir-fry a few vegetable dishes before inviting her to the dining room to eat.
With the major project concluded and her mood lifted, Stella Sterling was visibly brighter.
Like a flower in full bloom.
Stella was beautiful and down-to-earth, so Tate felt at ease around her and they would even chat for a bit from time to time.
"You’re in a good mood today, Mrs. Rhodes."
Stella was indeed in a good mood; she even thought the dishes Tate made tasted better than usual.
Stella swallowed the food in her mouth before replying, "I am. My work is done, so I finally have a few days to rest. Come to think of it, Tate, you only get one day off a week. That must be so exhausting."
A live-in housekeeper like Tate had to get up very early to prepare for the day.
After all, the man of the house got up at six-thirty sharp for his morning run, which meant Tate naturally had to be up even earlier.
While she didn’t have to wait for the family to go to bed before she could sleep, if something came up in the middle of the night, she still had to get up and tend to it.
Fortunately, both Owen Rhodes and Stella Sterling were very easy to get along with.
The family was kind and the pay was high, so having only one day off a week was fine.
What was there to complain about?
Tate smiled and said, "Both you and Mr. Rhodes are so easy to get along with. Compared to other households, this job is hardly difficult at all."
Not to mention some families would take out their frustrations on the help.
In comparison, Tate’s job was a dream come true.
Over this period, Tate and Stella had grown quite familiar with each other.
As they chatted, Tate asked, "Mrs. Rhodes, there’s something I’d like to ask you, if you don’t mind."
Stella nodded. "Go ahead."
"It’s about my daughter. She’s a junior in high school, but her grades in her academic subjects aren’t very good. So I wanted to ask you, Mrs. Rhodes, what you think about her studying art, like you did?"
Hearing this, Stella couldn’t help but sit up straight.
She wasn’t quite sure how to answer.
Or rather, she’d never imagined someone would ask her this question.
After all, she hadn’t gone through the domestic education system growing up.
Giving this kind of advice made her feel an inexplicable, invisible pressure.
Tate was good at reading people. Seeing Stella’s serious expression, she quickly said, "Mrs. Rhodes, if it’s inconvenient, please just pretend you didn’t hear me. I’ve said too much."
Stella shook her head. That wasn’t it.
"Tate, I actually didn’t grow up studying in this country, so I’m not familiar with how things work here. I don’t want to give you a rash answer. I’ll ask Owen when he gets back tonight."
Tate grew even more flustered. "Oh my, I couldn’t possibly trouble you."
"It’s no trouble. I’ll just ask him casually."
The main reason was that she was also curious about Owen’s past. This was a perfect opportunity to use Tate’s question to hear more about his school days.
’Heh, I’m such a clever girl.’
Just as Stella was thinking this to herself, she heard Tate say, "But you and Mr. Rhodes are really a great match. He’s also very fond of paintings."
Stella paused at her words, slightly taken aback.
"He likes to paint, too?"
"I don’t know if he likes to paint, but he does like to collect paintings. I’ve seen him have Hawthorne contact artists for him quite often."
’So that’s how it is.’
If that was the case, she wasn’t as curious anymore.
After all, once people become wealthy, they tend to get into collecting.
Maybe Owen Rhodes was one of those people.
Take Kiana Sterling, for example. One of her paintings sold for tens of millions of US Dollars.
Only the rich had the leisure and refined taste for such things.
But...
"Hey, Tate, then how come there aren’t any paintings in the house?"
Tate shook her head. "I’m not sure about that. You can ask Mr. Rhodes yourself another time."
Stella nodded.
The two of them continued chatting like this as Stella finished up her lunch.
She settled comfortably on the living room sofa, watching a movie and eating fruit, feeling utterly content.
The doorbell rang just as Stella finished the fruit platter.
As Mr. Joel went to open the door, Stella wondered who could possibly be visiting at this hour.
’Could it be Ken?’
Then, Stella saw Chase Sterling, Kiana Sterling, and Ethan Rhodes walk in together.
The moment Mr. Joel saw the three of them, he felt a throbbing in his temples.
Still, he greeted Ethan Rhodes politely, "Mr. Rhodes, what brings you here today? Mr. Owen Rhodes isn’t home at the moment."
Ethan Rhodes smiled politely at him. "Mr. Joel, we’re here to see Stella Sterling."
Stella had already walked over at the sound of voices. Hearing Ethan Rhodes’s words, she immediately corrected him, "That’s rude. It’s ’Auntie’ to you."
"..."
Mr. Joel was still standing at the door, showing no intention of inviting them in.
The group stood there, half in and half out, creating an awkward scene.
Just as Chase Sterling was about to speak, he heard Stella say, "I don’t recall inviting you. What is this...?"
Chase Sterling looked at Stella’s relaxed expression, feeling a surge of annoyance.
But he still said politely, "Stella, I think there might be a misunderstanding between us. I came here today specifically to see you."
Hearing this, Stella’s face remained impassive, but inwardly she snorted in contempt.
’A misunderstanding?’
She didn’t think there was any misunderstanding between them at all.
All there was was the pure, unadulterated malice from these so-called members of the Sterling Family.
Stella ignored him and turned to Kiana Sterling and Ethan Rhodes. "And what about you two?"
Kiana Sterling looked at her eagerly. "Stella, I just missed you a little, so I came specially to see you."
Stella took a step toward them and even did a little twirl.
"Alright, you’ve seen me. You can go now?"
Ever since Owen Rhodes and Stella Sterling had kicked him out and sent him home that day, Ethan Rhodes had been holding in a breath of frustration that was nearly suffocating him.
Seeing Stella act like this made that frustration feel even more stifling.
"Stella Sterling, do you have to be like this? We’re family, no matter what. There’s no need to act like we’ll never see each other again, is there?"
Stella was completely self-assured. "We’re not acting like that. Didn’t we see each other at the family dinner? We’ll see each other during the holidays, too. But there’s no need for private visits, is there? Aren’t you just looking for trouble? If you don’t leave now, I’m calling the police!"
Seeing that Stella was completely unreceptive, Kiana Sterling suddenly said, "Stella, that thing Mom was always telling you to find... don’t you want to know where it is?"
Stella had no interest in what she was saying. "What thing?"
Kiana Sterling looked her in the eye and said, "Your marriage certificate. We found it. Now, can we all sit down and talk?"
