Chapter 94: Chapter 94: Let’s Make a Bet on Whether Owen Rhodes Will Still Be Good to You

Owen Rhodes had always been this cold.

Although Yolanda Thorne was displeased, she didn’t dare say much.

Bernard Rhodes, on the other hand, was able to chime in, "She’s just showing her concern for you. Can’t you take a single word of it?"

Seeing the old man was about to lose his temper, Stella placed a hand on Owen Rhodes’s arm and chimed in at the right moment to smooth things over. "Father and Yolanda are right. What Owen means is that we have our own plans, so there’s no need to worry."

Even though Stella knew that wasn’t what Owen meant, her words gave Bernard Rhodes a graceful way out, and he took it.

None of the younger generation enjoyed being pressured about marriage and children, so Faye Rhodes and Melody Rhodes quickly used a toast as an excuse to move the conversation along.

With that topic behind them, the conversation at the table turned to the careers of the younger generation.

When the subject turned to Faye Rhodes, Audrey Rhodes mentioned with some exasperation that her daughter wanted to go abroad for an art exhibition.

Serena Kane immediately chimed in, "Faye, you love painting so much, and as it happens, we have a great artist right here in the family now. Why go abroad for an exhibition? Just have Kiana give you a few of her paintings."

Faye Rhodes had been all smiles since the dinner began, but as soon as this topic was raised, her smile faded.

"That’s not necessary. I’m just looking around casually. I can’t appreciate my sister-in-law’s profound art; it would be wasted on me. By the way, I heard another one of your paintings recently sold for a high price. Could I visit your studio sometime?"

Hearing this, Kiana Sterling’s heart inexplicably skipped a beat.

Outwardly, she agreed amicably and even promised to give Faye Rhodes a couple of paintings another day.

After she spoke, Kiana felt a gaze on her. She looked up and met Stella’s eyes, which held a faint, knowing smile.

Kiana instantly grew tense. She had expected Stella to use this as an opening to attack, but to her surprise, Stella said nothing at all.

Instead, it was Faye Rhodes who suddenly spoke up again. "By the way, have you heard of an artist named Umi? She just won the Jason Will Painting Award. I think your style is very similar to hers."

Kiana’s heart sank, but she kept her expression neutral.

"Oh, really? I’ve been so busy lately that I haven’t been keeping up." 𝒇𝒓𝙚𝒆𝔀𝓮𝓫𝒏𝓸𝙫𝓮𝓵.𝓬𝙤𝙢

Faye Rhodes immediately pulled up a news report on her phone, found Umi’s award-winning piece, *Tidal Reverse Flow*, and passed the phone over. "See? This is the one."

The moment Kiana saw it, she felt her heart plummet.

The remarkably similar artistic style, the nearly identical brushwork—it was all silently screaming at her.

The color drained from Kiana’s face. Under the pretext of examining the painting, she lowered her head and took a long moment to compose herself before handing the phone back to Faye Rhodes.

"It’s quite good, indeed."

Faye Rhodes stared at her. "Just ’quite good’? Don’t you think it looks a bit familiar?"

How could Kiana fail to recognize the accusation in Faye Rhodes’s question?

She looked at Faye Rhodes. The probing hostility in the younger woman’s eyes was completely undisguised.

Kiana scoffed inwardly. ’Stella works fast. I wonder when she managed to buy Faye Rhodes over.’

’Then again,’ she thought, ’it’s to be expected.’

’Yolanda Thorne said long ago that Audrey Rhodes is on Owen’s side and doesn’t get along with our faction.’

Kiana forced a smile that didn’t reach her eyes. "Not at all. This is the first time I’ve seen this artist’s work. It’s painted very well, so it’s no wonder Faye is a fan."

Just then, a call came in from Evan Rhodes in faraway Veridia, and the conversation naturally shifted.

Only then did Kiana turn her gaze toward Stella, the emotions in her eyes practically overflowing.

However, the target of her stare, Stella, was busy whispering something to Owen Rhodes and didn’t notice her glare at all.

After dinner, Bernard Rhodes took his children to the study, as was his custom, to get an update on the corporation’s recent affairs.

Although the patriarch had retired, he still liked to keep abreast of the company’s situation.

Given his advanced age, his children indulged him. If he wanted to listen, they would tell him; after all, he no longer participated in the company’s management or decision-making.

The remaining women gathered in the drawing room to chat.

Leila Rhodes was a woman of few words. As the others chatted, she quietly prepared tea, content to listen.

Although Yolanda Thorne and Serena Kane were at odds, they were able to maintain a surface-level harmony and exchange a few pleasantries.

Meanwhile, Faye Rhodes, who had a good impression of Stella, made sure to include her in her conversation with Melody Rhodes.

As soon as Melody Rhodes sat down, she started pestering Faye Rhodes. "Faye, did you get me the autograph?"

Faye Rhodes took a sip of the tea Leila Rhodes had prepared. "Didn’t I just get you one last week? Why do you need another? Zion Shawcross is a busy man, Melody!"

"Oh, come on! The signed photocard from before is different from the new one. You work at his studio, Faye, how can you not get it?"

Faye Rhodes sighed helplessly and turned to explain to Stella, "Melody is Zion Shawcross’s biggest fan. She’s completely obsessed with him."

"Zion Shawcross is amazing, so of course he’s worth admiring! I’m going to be just like Faye and work at his studio one day!"

Serena Kane, deep in her own conversation, seemed to have ears on the back of her head. "Melody Rhodes, what was that you said? I didn’t quite catch it."

Melody Rhodes snapped her mouth shut.

But as soon as Serena Kane turned back to her conversation with Yolanda Thorne, Melody immediately started pestering Faye again about Zion Shawcross.

Learning that Zion Shawcross was about to release a new song, Melody wished she could just take Faye’s place and get a sneak peek at his studio.

Stella couldn’t help but smile, her eyes crinkling at the corners.

This was the innocent, vibrant energy an eighteen-year-old girl should have.

’My eighteenth year...’

’Better not to think about it.’

Just as she was thinking this, someone seemed determined to ruin her peace.

Kiana had come up behind her at some point and now tapped her on the shoulder. "Stella, your sister would like to have a word with you. Is now a good time?"

Yolanda Thorne overheard and chimed in, "Yes, you two sisters should have a nice chat. You’re all one family now, you should get along lovingly."

She said the words, but Stella heard nothing loving in her tone at all.

With Yolanda Thorne cornering her like that, Stella couldn’t easily refuse, so she had no choice but to follow Kiana to a quieter spot.

Once they were alone, Kiana finally dropped her mask.

"Stella, what did you say to Ethan? Why is he suddenly starting to remember you?"

Stella crossed her arms, looking at her with an expression of pure exasperation.

"Kiana, did you hit your head and damage your brain? It’s his business if his memory is coming back. Why are you coming to me? Do you think I can make him lose it again?"

The venom in Kiana’s eyes looked ready to spill over.

"Stella, do you really think Owen Rhodes will be good to you forever? What do you think will happen when he finds out who you really are? Will he still treat you so well?"

Stella had been slandered by Kiana so many times in the past that, even though she was no longer afraid, a familiar wave of panic washed over her.

She forced down the uncomfortable feeling in her chest and strained to pull her lips into a smirk. "Kiana, you’re afraid. You’re afraid Ethan will leave you, aren’t you?"

Kiana’s venomous glare wavered for an instant.

Her eyes darted to the side, and after spotting something, her composure returned.

"You’re the one with no confidence in Owen, aren’t you? Stella, why don’t we make a little bet? Let’s bet on whether Owen will continue to be so good to you."

Before them lay the entrance to the Rhodes family’s sunken wine cellar. Kiana retreated step by step to the edge of the stairs, a smirk playing on her lips as she let herself fall backward...
