Immediately, a massive wave of heat exploded in his stomach. It felt like he had swallowed a small, angry sun. Yin Zhe's face turned bright red, and heavy sweat started to bead on his forehead, and rolling down his nose. (Drip... drop... splatter...) He immediately activated [Nine Breaths Circles].

His breathing became a rhythmic, deep cycle that vibrated the air in the small room. Every time he inhaled, the golden energy from the pill was sucked into his meridians like water being pulled into a dry sponge. The lizard's scales stood up straight, and then thick sparks of yellow electricity danced between its tiny claws. (Crackle! Pop! Zap!) "It's working! Little Blue is acting like a lightning rod and eating the leftover energy!" Yin Zhe thought, his teeth gritted hard against the growing pressure in his chest. He pushed the breath even harder, while forcing the last of the golden light into his core essence.

"Whoa..." Yin Zhe gasped in surprise, slumping forward as the heat finally settled into a dull glow. (Huff... huff... pant...) He felt twice as strong as he had ten minutes ago. His muscles felt dense like iron, and his mind was incredibly sharp. He looked down at Little Blue. The lizard looked slightly bigger, its scales were harder and more metallic. It looked up at Yin Zhe and let out a louder, and more confident hiss, with a tiny spark of blue lightning jumping from its nose to the stone floor.

"You're getting strong too, huh? Tomorrow is going to be even tougher. I'm taking you with me to the next match. We're going to shock everyone—literally," Yin Zhe said with a tired, and sarcastic smirk.

But he wasn't done yet. He closed his eyes and looked inward, while moving his internal "perception" toward his core essence. There, the Black Fire Seed sat like a piece of cursed burning coal, and constantly tried to melt his insides from the center out.

"You've been a burning pain in my gut for far too long," Yin Zhe muttered under his breath. He started to use his new Stage 8 spirit essence to wrap around the black flame. He didn't try to blow it out; instead he tried to absorb it. He treated the deadly seed like a very long-lasting, and very painful pill. 𝐟𝕣𝗲𝕖𝕨𝗲𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝗲𝚕.𝗰𝚘𝐦

(Tsssssssss!) The sound of his essence hitting the black fire was like cold water hitting a red-hot frying pan. It hurt. It hurt a lot. It felt like his internal organs were being scrubbed with iron wool and salt. But every time the fire burned a hole in his spirit, [Primordial Life-force] would flash a brilliant green and sew the wound shut in a heartbeat.

He was caught in a constant, and brutal loop of destruction and rapid healing. It was a slow, grueling process that made his muscles twitch, but for the first time, the black seed was actually shrinking. He could feel the dark, and fiery power of the seed becoming a permanent part of his own strength. At this rate, with his new level and his healing skill, he would have it completely absorbed and neutralized in just a few days.

Yin Zhe sat in the dark, and quiet room, with sweat soaking his clothes through to the mat, his body glowing with a strange mix of green, blue, and black light as he desperately fought the fire in his soul. (Drip... splatter... hiss...) The black fire hissed in protest, but Yin Zhe just breathed deeper, his face set in a mask of grim, and shameless determination. He was no longer just a victim surviving the fire; he was becoming the master of the flame itself.

Yin Zhe spent a few more minutes poking Little Blue's soft, and scaly belly, while watching the tiny lizard puff out its chest and stand on its hind legs like it was the undisputed king of the world. (Boop!) The little guy let out a tiny, and static-filled burp that smelled faintly of ozone and expensive medicinal herbs. Satisfied that his pet was happy and well-fed on his leftover spirit essence, Yin Zhe stood up and grabbed the heavy, and familiar hilt of Roaring Tiger. He had to move. His muscles felt tight and restless from the sudden, violent jump in cultivation to Stage 8, like a string on a massive war-bow that had been pulled back just a little too far.

He walked out of his room, the wooden floorboards of the hallway were groaning and protesting under his feet. (Creak... creak...) As he descended down the creaky wooden stairs toward the lobby, the rich, and heavy smell of roasted duck, fermented soy, and cheap grain wine drifted up from the inn's dining area. He spotted the manager, it was a portly man named Mr. Gao with a face like a squeezed tomato, who was busy polishing a tarnished brass cup with a very questionable, and dirty grey rag.
