Chapter 40: Chapter 40: Inconstant Illusionary Form Technique

To prepare for the autumn defense, Yang Jing had spent a huge sum of Spirit Stones, and his funds were now depleted. He was eagerly looking forward to the loot in the Storage Bags.

The first Storage Bag he opened belonged to the Cultivator he had cut in half at the waist. Inside were just over thirty Spirit Stones, forty Talismans for various Magic, a small, blood-reeking banner of Tier One Upper Grade, and a brass ring with no discernible purpose. Besides a large bottle of fresh blood, the rest were all materials for refining Magical Artifacts for the Three Yin Green Blood Scripture.

Yang Jing carefully inspected the Spirit Stones and Talismans with his Bright Qi Talent before putting them away. The rest he packed back into the Storage Bag with disgust.

The second Storage Bag had a few more Spirit Stones, fifty in total, along with forty Talismans and a Tier One Middle Grade Defensive Spiritual Artifact refined from a Turtle Shell.

The Cultivator hadn’t even had time to activate this Magical Artifact before Yang Jing and Iron Head took him down.

Among Magical Artifacts, Defensive Spiritual Artifacts were second only to Flying Swords in price. This Turtle Shell was worth a pretty penny, but unfortunately, since it was hot property, its price would be slashed drastically if he tried to sell it. Moreover, he couldn’t sell it in Huangyuan Marketplace, as it would be too easy for the Wu Family to find a clue and start tracking him.

Besides that, Yang Jing also found a Jade Scroll in the Storage Bag. The remaining items were much like those in the first bag—just sealed vials of fresh blood and various materials for sinister Magical Artifacts.

Perhaps because they knew their mission was fraught with risk, there wasn’t much of value in either of the two Storage Bags, leaving Yang Jing somewhat disappointed.

After putting away the Jade Scroll, Yang Jing picked up the last Storage Bag. This one belonged to the Late Stage Qi Cultivation expert of the trio, and it took him a great deal of effort to open.

This Storage Bag had a much larger capacity than the other two, a full five cubic meters. Perhaps because his cultivation was at the Late Stage of Qi Cultivation, he was confident he wouldn’t be bested by a group of Independent Cultivators. The bag contained over five hundred Spirit Stones; he had probably brought most of his personal fortune with him.

Yang Jing found a Flying Hook reeking of Evil Qi. It was four feet long, pitch-black in color, with a razor-sharp blade. The curved tip of the hook emanated a bone-chilling aura. It was a rare killing tool, an Upper Grade Spiritual Artifact.

The Demon Sects’ Sword Techniques were unorthodox. They disliked using ordinary Flying Swords, preferring unconventional weapons like this Flying Hook. It could be used to hook, lock onto, and destroy other Magical Artifacts, and was part of many unique Sword Techniques. An unfamiliar opponent could easily suffer a great loss upon first encountering it.

Regardless, it was still a high-level Magical Artifact. Although its unusual form slightly reduced its value, it was still worth a considerable amount.

The next Magical Artifact was a long rope. Its body was woven from unknown sinews and threads, measuring over one hundred feet in length.

This was the Yin Blood Rope, a complementary Magical Artifact for the Three Yin Green Blood Scripture. It was woven from beast sinews and human hair and needed to be refined with human blood—the more blood used, the greater its power. It would only fetch a good price within a Demon Sect.

The final item was a Heart Protection Mirror, golden in color and shimmering brightly. Observing its Spiritual Charm, Yang Jing determined it to be a Tier One Upper Grade Defensive Spiritual Artifact. He would have to refine it to learn its specific use.

Most Magical Artifacts had to be refined with one’s Divine Sense before their function could be known. However, Cultivators constantly immersed and tempered their Magical Artifacts with their Divine Sense to control them as extensions of their own bodies. Breaking the Divine Sense Imprint on them was far more troublesome than on a Storage Bag.

Aside from these Magical Artifacts, there were three sealed bottles of fresh blood, three Jade Scrolls, and a pile of miscellaneous items.

Yang Jing moved the usable Magical Artifacts and Jade Scrolls into his own Storage Bag, then packed the Yin Blood Rope, the Blood Banner, and the miscellaneous items back into the looted ones. ’Only Cultivators from Foundation Establishment Clans would have the wealth to carry more than two Magical Artifacts at a time.’

A typical Independent Cultivator would be considered extravagant if they owned even a single Middle Grade Spiritual Artifact.

"Iron Head, take these Storage Bags, go outside the city, dig a hole, and bury them," he said, rubbing Iron Head’s head.

Sinister Magical Artifacts like the Yin Blood Rope and the Blood Banner were absolutely taboo in the territories governed by the Six Great Sects. They were like chicken ribs—useless to keep, yet a waste to discard. They were difficult to sell, and their base materials were nothing special, unlike the Flying Hook and the Long Needle, which were made of superior materials that could be melted down and re-refined into new Spiritual Materials.

Rather than carry these forbidden items on his person, it was better for his peace of mind to simply get rid of them.

Iron Head opened its mouth, its little tongue lolling out as it panted. It picked up the three Storage Bags in its mouth, trotted carefully around the street corner, and vanished in the blink of an eye.

Yang Jing stretched lazily and rode his Cloud Escape back to his courtyard home.

After discovering their clansmen had been killed, the Wu Family would very likely send more people into the city. But this new group’s cultivation and vigilance would surely surpass the previous trio’s. Therefore, for Iron Head’s safety, he didn’t have it continue to watch the hideout.

After returning to his home, Yang Jing took out the several Jade Scrolls from his Storage Bag.

Reading a Jade Scroll required one’s full concentration. Having just taken out several enemies with sneak attacks, Yang Jing was not about to let his own guard down.

He pulled out one Jade Scroll and pressed it to his forehead. As expected, it was the Three Yin Green Blood Scripture. It was filled with annotations which, from Yang Jing’s lofty perspective, were complete and utter nonsense.

He had a bright future ahead of him; he wasn’t about to lose his mind and practice a Cultivation Technique that could at most reach the Early Stage of Foundation Establishment and would turn his own body into Demonic Materials. Besides, with his body full of Celestial True Yang, he couldn’t produce even a wisp of Demonic Qi.

He directly erased all the content from the Jade Scroll and returned the blank scroll to his Storage Bag. A single Jade Scroll was worth Five Spirit Stones; it couldn’t be wasted.

The next few Jade Scrolls contained things like account ledgers and cultivation insights, none of which were of any great use to Yang Jing.

It wasn’t until he inspected the last Jade Scroll that he found something of value.

"Inconstant Illusionary Form Technique."

It was a Magic for changing one’s appearance and aura—an extremely practical one. Once cultivated to a certain Realm, even Cultivators of the same level would be unable to see through the disguise. Furthermore, the disguised Magical Power could even deceive the tracking of a Void Mirror.

’I can’t believe the Wu Family actually has this Magic. No wonder they’ve been able to develop so steadily in the Chen Kingdom all this time,’ Yang Jing thought, both shocked and delighted.

This Inconstant Illusionary Form Technique was renowned throughout the Nine Heavens World. It was a Magic created by the Four Great Demon Sects to allow their disciples and infiltrators to mix into the Six Great Sects.

When cultivated to a profound level, even a Golden Core Expert skilled in using a Dharma Eye wouldn’t be able to see through the disguise.

’Those three were able to fool the Demon Alarm Bell and sneak into Huashan County so easily. I thought they must have used some kind of Talisman, but it turns out they had actually learned the Inconstant Illusionary Form Technique.’

The Demon Alarm Bell, after all, was a mass-produced Magical Artifact designed for large-scale detection of Demon Qi and Demonic Qi; its primary purpose was early warning. One only needed a rudimentary grasp of the Inconstant Illusionary Form Technique to deceive it.

’To be able to circulate this Inconstant Illusionary Form Technique so freely within the clan... it seems the Wu Family’s status in the Dark Spring Demon Sect is anything but ordinary,’ Yang Jing mused.

Ordinary, cannon-fodder Demon Cultivators would have no right to learn this Magic, precisely to prevent it from being leaked.

However, what made him happiest right now was the thought that once Yinjiao learned the Inconstant Illusionary Form Technique, he would no longer have to keep it cooped up in the Beast Taming Bag to prevent its draconic aura from being detected by someone with ill intent.
