My Bestie's Dad Likes Me Wet-Chapter 85 CLUE
LUCA POV
Something in me was satisfied with the pool of confusion, terror, and pain all reflecting on Grant’s face. On a normal day, Grant is damn steel. It’s like nothing pierces the man and he feels nothing.
The only time I’ve seen him show an ounce of emotion is when I was still running the Nova charade, and it’s the same Nova issue that seems to have him in a fit. 𝒻𝓇𝑒𝘦𝘸𝑒𝒷𝓃ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝒸ℴ𝘮
It can’t be me.
A damn pussy can’t have me pussywhipped or so damn confused. I’m in charge of my emotions and will never be a victim of these disposable females.
That is my watchword and it would always work for me; even now that my about-to-be wife almost got kidnapped and her dad is insisting we speed up the engagement so she can be under my watch.
If Grant isn’t the one behind this attack, then maybe it’s one of my bossy fiancée’s people. But looking at it from another angle..."So you’re denying snitching on me to the police?" Hell. I needed to be sure. "Even after you had the same goods on the same route the following month?"
I watched in unbridled excitement as he scratched his head and his face before replying in a voice that seemed really pained.
"I’m not that kind of man, Vitellio. It’s true that you informed me about your goods and the route, but when I heard about the police, I thought it was rumors. Then I heard word that you were switching your goods to another route." He paused, shaking his head as if trying to remember all the details.
I would have shut him up then. Called him a liar even, but something told me he wasn’t lying and my mind rarely deceives me.
He was still speaking. "Later, when the requests for those goods got heavy, I saw no harm in shipping mine. I would never undercut another man’s work just for my own profit. Never, Vitellio. I’m a man of code and that is against my code."
"But it’s not against your code to fuck your daughter’s best friend. To pop her cherry." I couldn’t resist rubbing that in.
"My personal life is none of your damn business, Vitellio. I’m merely trying to be reasonable here." He snapped back, refusing to be guilt-tripped.
"You were the one talking about being a man of codes, like you didn’t torture an innocent boy till he was in the emergency ward for weeks." My little Sam hadn’t picked up my calls or responded to my messages ever since. They chose to distance themselves from anything mafia for a reason.
"That was because my office cloud leaked and shit got hacked. All hands pointed to you." I could tell I was getting on his nerves.
"Just know this, if I want to destroy your company, Calloway, I would personally walk down to the building and bomb it up. There won’t be any need to cut through corners."
"Well, your shit ain’t safe either," he sneered back, but before I could give the fucker a befitting response, my phone rang in my pocket. It’s my very personal line.
It’s my nemesis calling.
My father-in-law-to-be and his ever bossy commands. Like father, like daughter.
I didn’t have the chance to say a word before he rasped on in an emotional voice.
"What?" I had to be sure I was hearing him right.
"But Calloway is right here before me with his men."
Calloway seemed to visibly tense when I mentioned his name, and I mean, who wouldn’t?
After he hung up, my mind seemed to quit on me. Right at the same time, Calloway and my right-hand man Eben rushed to me. Calloway didn’t touch me, but I could see the concern etched in his brows.
"What is it?" Eben asked, concern heavy in his voice.
"Giulia Romano just got kidnapped by some group of men who claimed to be working for Grant Calloway."
I let them all assimilate the truth bomb I just dropped. Eben’s hand already went to his gun strap and I could see Grant’s men do the same. But before this bloodbath, I needed to be sure.
"Care to explain how you’re here pleading your innocence and somehow your men are carrying my fiancée to god knows where after killing her guards?"
"First off, I’m not pleading to your arrogant ass. I came here to find answers to the same confusion I’m in. And why would I kidnap your bride when I’m yet to recover my own girlfriend?"
He paused, looking from his men to my men.
"Does this make sense to any of you? Can’t y’all smell the deception? Isn’t it glaring that whoever is pulling these strings wants us at each other’s throats, so they keep causing more chaos? I’m tipsy as hell but I’m still able to think through my fuzzy ass brain, and y’all need to do the same." He roared.
Honestly, there seemed to be traces of truth in what he said, but something was gnawing at me like I missed something.
Like I’m ignoring a major clue that could help solve this riddle.
"When was Nova missing?" I started, and Grant answered me.
"Who else knew of your relationship with Nova aside from me, of course?" I tried fixing the puzzle.
"Nobody." He seemed to rethink it. "Aside from Nova’s drugged-ass godmother. The bitch said something about a man wanting to see Nova."
"Okay. Who is the man and how did you deal with him?" I pushed, and I had to look him in the eyes. He looked... guilty?
"Nova wanted us to investigate, but I assumed it was you just pulling some tricks."
"I see." I definitely didn’t see. "You were so sure of your capabilities to handle me that you didn’t bother to listen to your own girlfriend."
He seemed to be beating himself up already, so I didn’t bother to add to the confusion.
"Giulia needs to be home before the end of today," I said with fake composure. "Even if I have to kidnap Nova’s godmother for her to talk."
Thankfully, Calloway didn’t argue. "As long as I get to see Nova alive and free, let’s get started."
Just then, Calloway’s phone vibrated loudly against his pocket. When he looked at the screen, he didn’t seem interested in picking it up, but right when solving a puzzle as major as this, nothing is too small to be overlooked.
"Pick it if you don’t have anything to hide," I gritted through clenched teeth. Maybe I was right not to really trust this fucker.
"It’s my daughter," he admitted.
"Pick it and put it on speaker." He hesitated briefly, then did as told.
"Dad, I’m sure Nova filled in her guardian details when applying for internship at your company. Can you please have your secretary forward it? She’s yet to be back and the school has been probing us."
"Alright," Calloway grunted, but I could see the pain he was trying to hide.
I asked one question that had been gnawing at me when the girl hung up.
"Is Nova’s number reachable?"
"No, but someone has been sending messages using her phone."
It was like a huge weight had been lifted off my chest.
"At last, we have a clue."
"What clue?" Everyone seemed to be attentive.
"If you can drop the device you used in reaching out to her with Eben for a few minutes, I believe we can track Nova’s device. Hopefully, she and Giulia will be at the same location."
I could see relief flood Grant’s tensed body as well, and he looked at me like I was his damn answered prayer.
