My Borderline Supervillain-Slash-Hero System-Chapter 157 Shelby Facing Titan
It was the fourth day of Shelby’s training.
Just like Zane, he had already cleared nearly all the missions—wiping out tribes of Celestials, annihilating entire clans, and toppling their kingdoms one after another.
But those victories hadn’t come easily.
During the kingdom invasions, Shelby had died multiple times—each time learning, adapting, and pushing his limits further.
Now, only one mission remained: the Troops of Titans—a force comprising ten Titan Lords and hundreds of Titan Warriors beneath them.
As he ventured deeper, Shelby finally encountered his first Titan Warrior.
"So this is a Titan?" he asked, studying the towering figure ahead.
Zane nodded. "Be careful. They’ve got no real weaknesses—strong martial skill, unbreakable physique, and terrifying magical abilities. I’d suggest you use your weapon this time."
Shelby smirked. "Weapon? My hands and legs are my weapons."
Zane groaned. "Oh my god, you’re not listening to me. You’ll die at least twenty times here—I’ve got no doubt about it."
Shelby grinned wide. "Then watch closely. I’ll show you what real strength looks like!"
He shouted, "Hey, you big bastard!"
The Titan Warrior turned, gripping a massive metallic pole, and growled,
"Intruder! You dare set foot in the sacred ground of Titans? You deserve a death filled with agony!"
Zane sighed. Ah, that’s so Shelby. But provoking a Titan head-on? Yeah, he’s definitely going to die—probably twenty times.
Even Xoxo shook her head, half amused, half exasperated. At first, she had been dismissive of Shelby, calling him reckless and unimpressive.
But after watching him clear mission after mission, her opinion had shifted—perhaps this human did possess potential comparable to Zane’s.
The Titan roared and leapt high into the air, bringing his pole down like a falling mountain.
Shelby sidestepped at the last instant. 𝘧𝘳𝘦ℯ𝓌𝘦𝒷𝘯𝑜𝑣𝘦𝓁.𝒸𝘰𝓂
The pole struck the ground with an earth-shaking boom, sending dust billowing in all directions.
But the exchange didn’t end there.
Again and again, the Titan swung his weapon, each strike leaving a crater where Shelby had just been. The sound of metal colliding with earth echoed like thunder.
"Display feed," Xoxo said, waving her dainty hand. A luminous screen appeared before them, showing a close-up of the battle.
The two fighters were now locked in a brutal contest of raw physical strength—no magic, no tricks, just muscle against muscle.
Shelby weaved through the Titan’s wild swings, dodging by inches. Whenever he found an opening, he countered with sharp punches and swift kicks aimed at vulnerable spots.
The hits landed cleanly—but barely made a dent. The Titan’s body was like iron, each blow ringing off it like a hammer on steel.
Zane winced. He knew that feeling—it was like punching a fortress wall.
But Shelby’s reaction caught both him and Xoxo completely off guard.
Instead of anger or frustration, Shelby burst into laughter—a deep, wild, uncontrollable sound that rolled across the battlefield and swallowed the clamor of clashing metal.
Xoxo tilted her head, fascinated and a little alarmed. "What is wrong with him?" she asked aloud. "I thought he was struggling—why is he laughing? Is there head trauma? Mental instability? If he’s damaged, I can patch him. Helping a genius like this would be an excellent service."
"Nothing’s wrong with him," Zane replied, watching the feed with narrowed eyes. "He’s just happy. He finally found an opponent strong enough to actually take his hits. That means he can push harder."
Around them, the ground trembled; dust thickened into a choking mist. On the projection, Shelby’s expression hardened. He moved faster. Each attack hit heavier than the last. He hammered the Titan’s flank with repeated kicks—relentless, punishing blows delivered in the same spot.
But the Titan only grew stronger. It was the thing Zane had noticed before: the Titan bloodline fed off the pain. The more they were struck, the more their strength awakened.
The giant pivoted its pole like a spinning blade and struck Shelby squarely in the chest.
Zane flinched. Titans were built like living fortresses—there was a reason the prototype blade had been designed for them. Shelby rolled in the dust, coughing blood, organs spasming with each violent breath. The Titan gave no mercy. It slammed the pole down over and over, each hit a grinding thunderclap.
Shelby cried out, then forced himself to stop. He wrapped his arms around his torso, trying to shield himself; his forearms took the brunt, skin split, bones splintered under the repeated battering. The pain was absolute. He went quiet as the world narrowed to the sensation of being crushed.
When the blows finally ceased, Shelby stopped screaming. The training ground reset him—the simulation’s cruel mercy. In an instant he reappeared whole in a fresh body. The virtual world rebuilt him, and the brawl began anew.
Zane watched, curious. He called out, "You died again. How does getting killed by a Titan feel?"
Shelby launched himself into the air, a flying kick that clipped the Titan’s stone-hard head. He landed, breathing hard, stance locked.
"Don’t joke with me, Zane," he said between pants. "Dying hurts like hell. Especially that slow, grinding death—the kind that chews you into pieces. You went through it before, right? So how do you even kill something like this? I can’t find a single weakness."
"I might use my s—" Zane started, but Shelby cut him off with a bark of laughter.
"Alright, I changed my mind. Don’t tell me. If you’ve found a way, I’ll find another. I’ll find the weakness myself—even if it kills me again." He spat the words with a savage grin. "Dying here isn’t the same as dying for real. Out there I’ve got one life. In here, every death is practice."
Zane blinked. Xoxo watched with growing respect. Shelby’s grin was ridiculous and stubborn, but it carried the steel of someone who would learn through pain until his fists cracked the code.
The Titan roared and swung. Dust rose like a wall. Shelby laughed and charged back in.
Zane knew the current situation of the fight; though Shelby was very agile and had superior fighting skills, it was not enough destroying the tough guard of the Titan warrior.
