My CEO Boss Is A Masked Internet Sensation-Chapter 127: It’s Alright To Be Afraid
Chapter 127: It’s Alright To Be Afraid
(Arata)
Heaviness clouded my mind and eyes. My eyelids seemed to have been made of lead. With difficulty, I opened them slowly, and the bright light of the room almost hurt my eyes.
Where was I?
"Hey! You are awake. How are you feeling?" A sweet female voice welcomed me and my eyes focused on the nurse in her navy blue scrubs.
I was in a hospital, not anymore in that fucking elevator. The smell of phenyl and disinfectants was heavy in the air.
She held a warm smile which widened at my answer.
"Drugged, did you guys fill my head with iron bearings?"
"No, ma’am, just some antibiotics and relaxation meds," she replied kindly.
I glanced around and found myself hooked on an IV. My hands had been bandaged.
"There is someone here to see you. I will send them in." Picking up the steel tray, she retreated, and my thoughts wandered back to that elevator.
That man, who was he?
Did Karsten find and rescue me?
As if to answer all my questions, the door opened, and he entered with the six-foot-four inches of haggard mixed with charisma.
His hair was unkempt as if he had only been raking his fingers through it and hadn’t combed them.
The tie loosely hung around his neck but wasn’t completely removed. His coat was gone.
The smell of tobacco and whiskey followed him as his dark eyes swept towards me in a mixture of relief and easement.
"White is not your colour, Blue Rose," he teased, making his way towards me on his lean legs. Not taking his eyes off me, clouded with concerns.
I tried to smile at his words. Relief flooded my system followed by a sense of safety.
He was here.
I would be safe.
Even though I knew how to defend myself, Karsten’s presence intensified that feeling of security.
"Yeah, hospitals have a wicked sense of humour. They offer the same colour to the living and the dead."
Concern shadowed his eyes as if he didn’t appreciate the answer I had given him.
He deadpanned. "Nothing will happen to you. How are you feeling?"
Karsten reached the foot of my bed and picked up the stupid hospital pudding from the food tray.
Peeling off the wrapper, he advanced forward and used the lever to lift up the bed.
"I am good, fresh as a rose," I answered watching his thick arm working on the lever as he adjusted it to a level where I could comfortably sit.
Once he was satisfied, Karsten settled his hulking figure beside me on the bed. His body’s heat seeped into me even though he didn’t physically touch me.
Mr Cold was extremely warm today and I needed that, not wanting to spiral or think about the incident.
Filling up the spoon with the pudding, he offered it to me like a caring boyfriend.
"It better taste good; I am starving," I warned before taking a bite, and his lips twitched, trying to hold back the smile.
Why was he always so afraid to smile?
"I will buy you whatever you want to eat once you are discharged."
I nodded slightly and tried to swallow the sticky pudding. He offered another spoonful and I took it. Keeping his eyes focused on the pudding he began.
"So I spoke to the doctor, and luckily, there are no internal injuries or broken bones, but you have bruises on your hands, shoulder and neck." His voice was low and disturbed, the face hardening to stone. His eyes painfully wavered to my hands.
It was understandable because those were the only parts that man had been able to assault.
"It’s not that bad, it’s mostly my fault. I was trying to pry open the elevator door. Sometimes I can be so dumb," I tried to laugh it off, I didn’t want to appear pathetic or gain sympathy.
"You are not dumb, Arata. You were fighting for your life and were claustrophobic. It’s alright to feel afraid at times."
Slowly lifting his head, he let me glance into his dead-serious eyes, gaze sharper than a guillotine’s edge. There was some unsaid promise as he spoke the next words.
"Tell me everything, don’t leave anything out."
Leaning back into the pillow, I let out a deep breath and closed my eyes for a few seconds before beginning.
As he had requested I didn’t leave any part out and even told him about my claustrophobic tendencies. I hated closed spaces, it was like my worst nightmare.
He listened patiently, not interrupting me even once but his silence was like a graveyard where he would be burying the man who had hurt me.
My breathing quickened even thinking back to the incident and I couldn’t help but wonder what would have happened if that man had succeeded in abducting me.
Karsten’s hand rested softly on my arm, I knew he avoided my hands because they were injured.
"I have him, and soon I will get all the answers; you don’t have to worry anymore. Just focus on healing." His words were like a slow poison, not intended for me but for the man who had dared harm me, dripping with unspoken threat.
I knew at that moment that Karsten, like my father, was a planner and he was going to get to the bottom of this and not stop until he had all the answers.
"Didn’t the police arrest him?" I asked, unable to shake this feeling that the situation was only going to get worse.
Like dark thunderbolts, his eyes flashed with hatred as he said.
"He dared hurt you, he is mine to question. No police."
My throat tightened as I swallowed the saliva in my mouth.
"Karsten, are you sure that’s a good idea?"
"Yes, I know what I am doing, Arata. You just focus on healing." He paused and clasped both his hands around my face, almost dotingly.
"I texted your father on your behalf. There were several texts from him, and I didn’t wish for him to worry."
He did, what?
"How did you get my password?" I asked, confused and he slowly smiled, almost teasingly.
"I know your password. Relax! I didn’t open any other apps."
This man, how the hell did he know my password.
Nothing surprised me truly when it came to him.
"How?" I asked, almost annoyedly. He merely shrugged his shoulders.
"You are not very discreet with it."
Drifting closer to me, he placed a small tender filled kiss on my forehead, sharing his hot breath with my skin. My hand itched to grab his shirt and keep him there even with what he had said.
His soft lips lingered, making my whole blood rush to my face.
"I called your friends, they will keep you company while I go take care of some stuff. Tonight, I will come to take you home."
Like two magnets being torn apart, my forehead and his lips parted and he slowly got up and placed the pudding cup aside.
A slight knock on the door finally diverted my attention from him and that sweet kiss that was going to stay with me for a while.
"You guys can come in," he permitted. The door opened, and I saw Miranda and Chan walk in with flowers and chocolates. freēwēbηovel.c૦m
"Arata!" Both of them had wide smiles on their faces and I couldn’t help but smile even wider than them.
They rushed to be by my side.
Karsten lingered near the door like a reluctant shadow; his unwavering eyes took me in one last time, and then he was gone, leaving me with Miranda and Chan.
