Chapter 148: Alien From Neptune

(Karsten)

Ranold was grating on my nerves. He wouldn’t stay away from Arata; the more I warned him, the more he wanted to vex me.

I knew he wasn’t interested in Arata. She wasn’t really his type. He preferred his girls slim, hence why he opted to sleep with models.

But, like me, he craved natural beauty, too.

The bastard knew me too well. He knew I was getting closer to Arata, and he had every intention of making me open up. That was the only reason he kept ignoring my warnings to stay away from Arata.

What was embarrassing, though, was the fact that Arata wasn’t interested in him even to carry out a proper conversation.

But whatever he was saying to her sitting so close wasn’t being appreciated by Arata. I could sense from her face that she was barely tolerating the nonsense he was spewing.

And then her eyes darted towards me and settled on Amanda.

Damn! My Blue Rose was so jealous of her. She watched her with such a burning gaze that I had to restrain myself from smiling.

It was time to ask for her opinion and I knew Arata would find faults in Amanda.

After the walk, I summoned her and Ranold.

To my surprise, Arata was all praises for her. Although I could sense she was holding herself back.

"So, it’s settled. Amanda will be our showstopper," I declared and informed Halima so she could proceed with rehearsals.

The consensus was passed with everyone’s approval and I planned on teasing Arata on the way home.

The rest of the day passed in the hum and drum of the office work and I got busier than usual.

By evening, I was more tired than I had thought I would. We decided to go home.

"Can we use the stairs? The descent is always easier by stairs," Arata asked with hope mingling in her voice. She was terrified of the elevators now.

"Of course! Come." I offered her my arm and she gladly took it.

We discussed different aspects of the Winter Gala on our way down and she offered her valuable input.

"So, I saw some smoke rising from where you were sitting while I walked with Amanda. Smelled like smoke of jealousy," I purposely teased and she gave me a sharp look.

"I don’t get jealous of plastic dolls."

"You weren’t envious of her looks, you were jealous because she held my arm," I calmly added, enjoying the flickers of possessiveness on her face.

"Was just ensuring some plastic didn’t drop on you." She glanced at the point Amanda had held and scrunched her nose.

Goodness! She was seething with envy. I had never seen her portray such open discontent with anyone before.

Her hold tightened against my arm in a yearning possessiveness and her soft features hardened as she nibbled on her lower lip.

She stopped smiling...

That was not what I was aiming for so I decided to drop this topic.

"What would you like to eat? Let’s eat out, whatever you choose and I will share." freёweɓnovel.com

Like always that did the trick. I had promised her I would try one food item of her choice, daily.

"Really?" She turned towards me, a sweet smile replacing the scowl as we continued our descent.

"Ah ha!" I gave a soft nod.

"Ramen noodles, please. I am craving them."

Of course! She would choose something spicy.

"Ramen noodles, it is," I added softly.

We had arrived at the underground parking lot. I threw open the door and guided her out towards the car.

Olphi was waiting for us. Quickly, he opened the door and helped Arata settle down first. Leaning in, I fastened her seatbelt and ensured she was comfortable. Once she was strapped in, I entered from the other side.

Once the car began to move, I told Olphi.

"Stop by a Ramen noodles joint." He offered a quick nod and we sped away.

Arata stared out of the car at the city lights and the passing traffic with the curiosity of a child. I observed she always loved watching through the car window in quiet solitude. The lights highlighted half of her beautiful face.

She observed the lights and I observed her...my only light.

Soon, Olphi parked outside a Ramen Joint, and I instructed him to get us two bowls.

"Make mine extra spicy," she instructed Olphi with excitement and he nodded before walking away.

Once the big man was gone, Arata turned towards me, excitement flashing on her face. She was about to share something juicy with me, I could tell.

"I saw Olphi smiling yesterday. Like literally smiling with his lips spread and eyes shining."

I had to purse my lips at her little observations.

"Really? And was that the occasion when he must have been speaking to Asbela."

Her eyes widened and twinkled from the lights outside.

"Have you seen it too? I think something is going on between the two. But when I asked Asbela, she outright denied it." Arata deflated as if she was quite disappointed with the proceedings.

"They are shy, extremely shy, especially Olphi. I know they are close but he is afraid of getting rejected and has never made his move. But believe me, I have seen the big man blush like a little girl when he is around Asbela," I filled her in and she absorbed every word like a sponge.

Not even blinking as if afraid she would miss a word. She excitedly grabbed my hands and turned towards me as much as the seatbelt allowed her.

"Karsten, we need to do something. Nudge them towards each other. They are holding themselves back, pleaseeee."

And here she went all lovesick again for two other people, who may not even want her intervention.

"Like what?" I asked, not pulling my hands from her hold.

"Like telling one that the other was asking about them. Or sending gifts to one on behalf of the other."

I shook my head.

"Terrible ideas."

She snorted. "As if you know anything about love. Alien from Neptune."

What in the hell was that nickname she gave me?

Seriously?

Alien from Neptune?
