My CEO Boss Is A Masked Internet Sensation-Chapter 184: Change In Job
Chapter 184: Change In Job
(Arata)
I woke up again near noon and called Mom and Aunt Huria, my heart slightly relaxed knowing she was safe and well, just some bruises which would heal.
The evening fell while I sat in the same spot, thinking and planning.
Finally, I decided to place the call I didn’t want to make. Callum was a nice guy, and I didn’t want to use him for my gains, but I had no other options.
I knew I could trust him, and he would never reveal anything to Baba or anyone else. Also, he was the only one who could help me. Uncle Kail had a whole network of obtaining information about people and I knew Callum had access to that.
Picking up my phone I hit the dial with my heart thudding extremely loudly. Callum picked up after the first bell.
"Hi! Arata, that’s a surprise." Shock was evident in his happy voice.
"Hey! Callum...how are you?" I awkwardly asked.
"I have been good. How about you? I saw you did really well on the ramp." The news about my ramp walk seemed to have spread far and wide.
"Yeah! Tried something new. Thanks." I fidgeted with my hair, unknowingly rolling a lock on my finger.
"....Congratulations on the new relationship," he paused and said. A hint of sadness had fallen over his voice. Like everyone else, he also believed Karsten and I were dating.
"No, no...that’s just for the news. I am not in a relationship with him." I shut the rumour down and wanted to laugh mirthlessly at the irony.
Karsten Chevalier and love didn’t belong in the same sentence.
"Ohhh! I see..." he awkwardly said and continued. "So.. what’s good?" freēnovelkiss.com
I paused, closing my eyes I took a deep inhale and opened them, staring outside my apartment window.
The shadows of evening had stretched, and I hadn’t left the bed, nor had I eaten anything since yesterday’s lunch–the one Karsten had brought me.
Caysir had brought me food, but I told him I was sleepy, and he returned from the outside.
"Actually, I kinda needed a favour and I was hoping it would remain between us..." I finally said, holding my breath.
Without any hesitation, Callum answered. "Anything and it will only remain between the two of us."
That gave me hope and a small smile crept up on my lips. I sat up straight, pulling my comfort pillow into my lap.
"I need information related to my boss, Karsten Chevalier. Not the public information but the kind he hasn’t revealed. Like who his father is? And anything related to him and his family."
There was no pause from Callum’s side nor did he ask why I needed that information.
"I will get to it and will let you know whatever I will find. You can count on me, Arata."
"Thanks, Callum, I appreciate you," I genuinely said.
A slight pause before he asked.
"Everything good though? I hope he is not causing trouble for you."
"Oh! No, it’s nothing like that. But one must have a hidden weapon in the arsenal when working for big guns," I lied between my teeth. Sometimes I hated how smoothly I could lie but I couldn’t tell him the truth. I couldn’t tell anyone the truth.
His reply came. "I see, I will call you when I have something substantial to report."
"Thanks, Callum...take care."
"Bye, Arata. It was nice talking to you." The call ended, and I tossed my phone away, slipping under my strawberry-themed quilt again.
Tomorrow, I had to return to the office, and I knew I wouldn’t be able to return to my apartment; he would take me to his villa. He had already given me more time than I had anticipated, knowing how he loved possessing control over everyone—especially me now.
A stupid part of my heart wished for him to still send me an apology text, saying it was all a joke but there was dead silence from his end.
My heart severely ached and pounded, and my stomach tightened. Pulling myself under and ignoring the beeping of my cell phone I drifted off.
The sleep was disturbed, filled with dreams, of masked figures and Karsten breaking my heart again and again, yelling at me that he would never love me.
I woke up earlier than I needed to and left the bed. Taking a bath, I dried my hair to get ready for whatever challenge Karsten had reserved for me.
Knowing him I knew he would be ready with something extremely dramatic for me. But he had only seen the fun and loving side of Arata Zyair, not the detached and petty side of me.
Taking out an all black pantsuit I put it on with a red cape shawl.
Putting my fake glasses on, I was ready to face the world.
No.More.Crying.
I embedded that phrase in my heart and brain. As I stepped out of my apartment, Caysir was waiting for me with takeaway croissants and cappuccino. I wasn’t sure why he kept bringing me food when I hadn’t even asked him.
"Again? I am not hungry, Caysir. Why would you bring me this?"
He scratched the back of his head with an apologetic look.
"Orders, Miss Arata. I was asked to deliver these."
Yeah! I knew from whom. He didn’t care about breaking my heart, spying on me, manipulating me, calling me someone who slept around but cared about my eating?
"Take them back to whoever ordered you to bring me these," I said with a cold smile and walked confidently towards the elevator.
Poor Caysir staggered behind me but made no attempt to offer me food again.
The journey towards the office was quiet. The snow had blanketed everything, from roads to trees. The cold was finally here, and I could sense it was freezing my heart, too. Snowblowers had cleared most of the snow from the roads, clearing a path for the vehicles.
We arrived in the parking lot and I exited the car, only to find Chan waiting for me with his usual sunshine smile.
"Hey!" He waved, wearing a beige sweater with black tailored tweed pants.
"Hey!" I waved back, plastering a smile on my face and approaching him.
"I am here to escort you, my lady. You will be working with me now," he offered with a smile, his eyes crinkling at the sides. His hands behind his back but I could sense the hint of sympathy in his voice.
So that’s what he had done, he had transferred me from being his secretary to the Sales Department.
