Chapter 188: No One Sleeps Hungry Under My Roof

(Arata)

After finishing work I handed over the data file to Chan. He could take it to the block of ice who had no feelings for anyone, I didn’t care.

Caysir was waiting outside the Sales Department ready to escort me downstairs.

"We have to go to Mr Karsten’s villa," he apologetically said. I knew he somewhat understood the tension between us.

My heart drowned with the thought of going to live in his house. Until the day before yesterday, I was extremely excited to return to live with him; now, the idea just gave me a headache.

"I know," I quietly said and began descending the stairs. Caysir followed me silently. He led me to Karsten’s car and I knew this was going to be permanently stuck with me.

Not because he cared for me but because he cared for his fucking pristine reputation.

Awww! Look how caring Mr Karsten is. He has gifted his car to his girlfriend.

Getting in, we silently drove off. I made a stop on the way, I needed the device which checked for hidden cameras. The seller showed me how it worked. I just had to turn it on and take a swipe, and the screen would beep and point to the cameras in a hundred-meter radius, no matter how small or hidden.

Thanking him, I placed it in my bag and returned to the car.

We reached his Villa. It loomed like a suffocating prison for me, making me snatch in a deep breath. I needed to be brave to get through this.

Asbela was waiting for me with her usual cheerful smile.

"Welcome back! So glad you are here. I was beginning to get lonely again." She pressed my shoulders and took off my coat. ƒгeewёbnovel.com

I forced a smile back at her. I wished I could say it felt good to be back, but the place no longer held that meaning for me, and I was forced to be here.

"Are you hungry? I can serve dinner or will you wait for the Master to return?" She asked as we ascended the stairs.

I had no intention of facing him anymore for the day. One encounter was enough so I calmly told her and hoped she wouldn’t get suspicious.

"Actually, I have already eaten, and I am rather tired, so I would like to go to bed and not be disturbed."

"Oh! You want me to fix you a warm bath?" She cheerfully asked, carrying my coat.

I shook my head. "No, I will just sleep. Thank you."

Opening the door, she went inside with my things and I just stood there for a while, not having the heart to enter the room again.

Taking a few deep breaths, I finally made my way inside and found it exactly the way I had left it. The only thing that had changed was me and the way I perceived the owner of this place.

My eyes instinctively searched for any hidden cameras he might have installed to spy on me. Could he have? I had already bought the device to check for such cameras and was determined to do it before sleeping.

Once Asbela had left after arranging my stuff, I shut the door and extracted the small black device with a 5 cm screen. Turning it on, I placed it on the coffee table and waited with an agitated heart.

It beeped once and pointed towards my bag, indicating towards the camera of my cell phone and tablet. I waited some more but it didn’t beep again.

A relief washed over me but he could have it removed after I accused him. Or maybe he didn’t have one in here in the first place.

Why was my heart making excuses for him and his shitty behaviour?

I was here to unearth the secrets he carried. To find out if he was involved in what went down between me and Andy.

Andy hadn’t contacted me, but then I had changed my number, and I was sure he didn’t have my new number.

My mind wandered to Andy’s words again and how genuine he had sounded but my heart was so conflicted. Picking up the device, I placed it back inside my handbag and proceeded to the closet for a change of clothes.

Karsten had already filled it with all kinds of clothes for me. In the beginning, I had found his actions endearing, and now it just angered me. Selecting one of my own, I opted for the bathroom to change and try to sleep.

The plush mattress was like a bed of thorns making every inch of my body ache. I stayed awake under the soft quilt, the sleep had abated me.

The suffocating memories we had spent together in this room were like a twisting vine against my neck.

How was I so naïve?

Or maybe that’s what love did to one. Like they said, love is blind, and in my case, it truly was. Hiding under the quilt, I huddled into myself, my knees touching my aching chest as I wished for some semblance of peace and tried not to cry.

The steady knock on my door had me thinking who it could be. Maybe it was Asbela returning to ask if I needed something.

Shuffling out of bed, I walked over to the door and threw it open.

Karsten stood there with a hint of annoyance on his forehead and a plate of food. The passive expressions on his face were like still water which produced no ripples.

He still wore his office attire meaning he had just returned and hadn’t even changed. His eyes dipped slightly before focusing back on my face.

So why was he here with a plate of food?

"You didn’t eat dinner. No one sleeps hungry under my roof," he spoke like a tyrant, extending the plate towards me. His face gave nothing away, just his eyes held these glimmers of emotions which were too foreign for me to unravel now.

"I ate, you got the wrong information," I huffed out a reply and tried to close the door but he elegantly placed his boot in the way, halting my action.

My eyes blazed in fury while he calmly said.

"Lies don’t suit you."
