Chapter 131: Chapter 131

Ivy

Two months later...

The living room blurred around me as I paced back and forth, my heart pounding in my chest. My hand rested on the curve of my swollen belly, feeling the life inside of me shift and kick.

"Aidan," I said, my voice shaky with fear, "I’m scared about the due date. What if something goes wrong? What if I can’t do this?"

He looked at me and narrowed my eyes. I could see the worry etched onto his face, but he tried to hide it behind a reassuring smile. "Ivy, you’ve got this," he replied.

Of course, he was so positive. He wasn’t the one pushing a whole human out of her vagina!

My breathing hitched, and I couldn’t help but feel a wave of doubt wash over me. I knew Aidan wanted to support me, but the thought of bringing our child into the world was utterly terrifying.

"Come here," Aidan beckoned, opening his arms wide. I hesitated for a moment before stepping into his embrace. He wrapped me in his strong arms, the warmth of his body enveloping me like a shield.

"Listen to me," he murmured, his voice low and steady. "You are stronger than you know, Ivy. You’re going to be an amazing mother, and I’ll be right there with you every step of the way. We’ll get through this together, I promise."

Suddenly, a sharp pain shot through my abdomen, causing me to gasp in surprise and clutch my belly. It felt as if someone had stabbed me with a searing hot knife, the pain nearly bringing me to my knees.

"Ow! God, what was that?" I cried out, panic rising within me like a tidal wave. I knew that contractions were part of the process, but this felt so sudden and intense.

"Are you okay?" Aidan’s alarmed voice rang out as he dashed towards me, his face etched with concern.

"Something’s wrong," I managed to choke out, feeling another wave of pain wash over me. "I think... I think it’s time."

"Okay, just breathe," he instructed, his own breaths coming in short, rapid bursts as if he was the one pregnant.

The pain surged through me again and I couldn’t hold back a cry.

"Alright, Ivy, we need to get you to the hospital now," he said firmly, his voice betraying a sense of urgency I’d never heard from him before.

"Okay," I gasped, trying to focus on breathing through the pain that seemed to be coming faster now. "Just... give me a second."

"Sorry, love, but we don’t have time for that." And without another word, Aidan scooped me up into his arms, carrying me bridal-style as he sprinted towards the car parked in the driveway. 𝘧𝓇𝑒𝑒𝑤ℯ𝑏𝓃𝘰𝑣ℯ𝘭.𝘤ℴ𝘮

"Put me down, Aidan!" I demanded, feeling humiliated and vulnerable in this position. But he wasn’t listening – or if he was, he chose not to respond. Instead, he simply tightened his grip on me and ran faster.

"Please, slow down!" I begged, but my pleas fell on deaf ears.

When we were at the car, Aidan carefully lowering me onto the passenger seat.

"Promise me, Aidan," I said urgently, gripping his hand. "Promise me that no matter what happens today, you’ll stay by my side."

"Always, Ivy," he vowed, sealing our pact with a fierce kiss on my knuckles. "I swear it on my life."

"Alright," I breathed, bracing myself for the journey ahead. "Let’s go bring our son into this world."

The car door slammed shut, and Aidan’s hands trembled on the wheel as he started the engine. He shot a quick glance at me, his eyes filled with worry, before he stomped on the gas pedal. The car roared to life, speeding towards the hospital as if our lives depended on it – and in a way, they did.

"Are you okay?" he asked, his voice tight with urgency.

"Y-yeah," I managed, gripping the seat tightly. My face contorted with pain as another contraction rolled through my abdomen, stronger than the last. "Just... drive faster."

"Already on it," Aidan replied.

"Please," I begged between clenched teeth, feeling the pressure in my belly build. "We need to get there soon."

"I won’t let anything happen to you or our baby, Ivy," Aidan promised, his voice strained with determination. "I swear it."

"Thank you," I whispered.

"Focus on your breathing," Aidan urged, cutting through my fearful thoughts. "In and out, just like we practiced."

I did as he said, taking slow, deep breaths as the car sped down the highway.

"Almost there," he said, his voice filled with both reassurance and urgency. "Just a little bit longer."

"Okay," I gasped, gritting my teeth as another contraction hit me like a tidal wave. "I can do this."

"Of course you can," Aidan replied, his voice fierce with conviction. "You’re the strongest person I know."

The screeching of tires filled my ears as Aidan slammed on the brakes, bringing the car to a halt in front of the hospital’s emergency entrance. My heart raced and every muscle in my body tensed as I braced myself for what was to come.

"Stay here," Aidan said, his voice strained, as he jumped out of the car and sprinted towards the passenger side. In mere seconds, he had flung open the door and reached out to help me out of the car.

"Can you stand?" he asked, concern etched across his face.

"Y-yes," I stammered, gripping onto his arm tightly as I struggled to find my footing. The pain in my abdomen intensified with each step, but I was determined to push through it.

"Lean on me," Aidan urged, his eyes scanning the bustling hospital corridors as we made our way inside. "We’ll find someone to help us."

"Where are they?" I muttered, frustration boiling within me as we continued our frantic search. Doctors and nurses darted past us, their faces set in grim determination, but none seemed to notice us.

"Excuse me!" Aidan shouted, desperation lacing his voice as he flagged down a nurse who was rushing by. "My girlfriend is in labor – we need help!"

"Of course," the nurse replied, her expression softening as she led us towards a nearby delivery room. "We’ll take care of you."

"Okay, Ivy," Dr. Matthews said, stepping forward with a reassuring smile. "We’re going to help you through this."

"Thank you," I managed to gasp out between contractions, my nails digging into Aidan’s palm.

"Let us know when you feel the need to push," the doctor instructed, gloved hands at the ready.

"Aid... don’t let go," I whispered fiercely, seeking his eyes. Aidan’s grip tightened in response.

"I am right here, Ivy."

"You’re doing great, Ivy!" Dr. Matthews encouraged. "Keep it up!"

"I love you," Aidan murmured in my ear, his voice strained with concern.

"Damn you for making me like this," I hissed through gritted teeth, anger flaring momentarily. But deep down, I knew I couldn’t wait to see my baby.

"Almost there," Dr. Matthews announced. "One more push, Ivy!"

Gathering the last of my strength, I pushed through the pain, determined to bring our child into the world.

"Here he comes!" Dr. Matthews exclaimed, expertly guiding our baby into the world.

The delivery room was suddenly filled with the cries of a newborn child. They placed Maxwell, our son, onto my chest, his tiny body slick and warm against my skin.

"Oh," I choked out between sobs. "He’s perfect."

"He is," Aidan murmured, unable to take his eyes off our newborn son.

I carefully passed Maxwell into Aidan’s arms.

As I watched Aidan cradle our baby, my heart was full.

"Can you believe it?" Aidan murmured, his eyes never leaving Maxwell’s face. "He’s finally here."

"I can’t," I admitted, my heart overflowing with happiness. "It’s like a dream."

Aidan’s smile was radiant as he looked at me. "It’s our dream come true, Ivy. Our family."

"He’s got your eyes," I whispered, tears of joy streaming down my face.

"Hmm...but he has your hair," he said.

True, our son seemed to have my light brown hair instead of Aidan’s pitch-black hair. But his eyes were a piercing shade of blue.

Aidan’s eyes met mine, filled with a mix of pride and determination. I couldn’t shake the worry that lingered in my mind, overshadowing the joy of our son’s birth. Maxwell was so innocent, so pure, and I feared what the future held for him.

"Aidan," I said quietly.

He looked at me. "What is it?"

"Promise me you will keep our son safe and won’t put him in unnecessary danger when he grows up," I said grimly.

Aidan’s expression darkened. "Ivy. You know I can’t make that promise."

My heart sank as I realized the truth in his statement. Despite our best intentions, the world we lived in was unpredictable and often dangerous.

"Aidan," I pleaded, my voice trembling. "Please, just promise me you’ll do everything in your power to protect him."

Aidan took a deep breath, his eyes locking onto mine with a mixture of resolve and sorrow. "Ivy, I swear to you, I’ll protect Maxwell with everything I have. But I can’t promise he’ll never face danger. I can only promise that I’ll be there to guide him through it."

Tears welled up in my eyes, and I nodded, understanding the weight of his words. "That’s all I can ask for," I whispered.

He leaned in and kissed my forehead tenderly. "We’ll raise him to be strong and brave."

I managed a small smile through my tears.
