My College Teacher is My Children's Mom-Chapter 738: Going Abroad to Find the Three Treasures
By the end of April, a five-day holiday was approaching. The family of three packed their bags, boarded a flight, and went overseas to find Yu Xi.
There was no direct flight to L-City, so they had to transfer midway. The round trip was an ordeal of over forty hours. By the time they arrived, both mother and daughter were exhausted.
"Dad, Mom, Xiaobao!"
In the distance, the figures of Yu Xi and Shao Yang appeared, instantly sweeping away Zhang Yuxi and Xiaobao’s fatigue. Xiaobao, in particular, perked up immediately.
With a patter of feet, she ran over. "Sister! Sister!"
Yu Xi was surprised. "Xiaobao, you’ve grown so tall?" Having been around her every day, she hadn’t really noticed, but now, taking a good look, she realized how much she had grown.
Xiaobao flashed a broad smile. "Yeah, yeah! Mom said I might become a giantess in the future."
Yu Xi chuckled. "I was thinking of giving you a hug, but I don’t think I could even lift you now."
Xiaobao wrapped her arms around Yu Xi’s waist. "Come on, let me hug you instead! Watch this!"
As she spoke, Yu Xi’s feet left the ground. Her eyes widened, and she laughed while patting Xiaobao. "Alright, alright, put me down! Don’t strain yourself."
Xiaobao lifted her chin proudly. "Aren’t I strong?"
Yu Xi nodded with a smile, an indescribable tenderness in her expression. "Very strong. Xiaobao is awesome!"
Meanwhile, Shao Yang helped with the luggage. "Mom, Dad, please stay at our place. We have plenty of room."
The couple felt it wasn’t appropriate and were about to decline.
Xiaobao clung to her sister, childishly pleading, "I want to stay at my sister’s place and sleep with her!"
Yu Xi laughed radiantly, her eyes full of doting affection.
The exterior of Shao Yang’s villa was stylish and modern. From downstairs, one could just make out the rooftop pool. It was nighttime, and the villa’s lights were a beautiful embellishment.
"Wow, it’s so beautiful!"
Shao Yang, busy acting as the designated porter, couldn’t hide his pride. "I designed this when I was eighteen, and I did the interior decorating myself."
Xiaobao’s eyes widened. "Wow, Brother-in-law, you’re amazing!"
Being complimented by Xiaobao, Shao Yang was as happy as could be. "Come on, let me give you a tour."
The villa’s primary color scheme was black, white, and gray, creating a style that was simple yet luxurious. It had four floors, six bedrooms, four bathrooms, and two living rooms. There was also a swimming pool, a gym, a movie theater, separate studies for him and Yu Xi, and Yu Xi’s brand-new studio. Her studio was even larger than the one back home, appearing to be over fifty square meters.
Furthermore, knowing Xiaobao might visit, Shao Yang had also converted a guest room into a children’s room. On the top floor, besides the swimming pool, there was a small golf course.
"Mom and Dad, this is your room," Shao Yang said. "Please tell me if you need anything. Don’t be strangers."
It was the largest guest room, complete with an en suite bathroom and decorated very elegantly. From house clothes to toiletries, everything one could possibly think of had been meticulously prepared. The couple was very pleased, though they didn’t know whether it was his thoughtfulness or their daughter’s.
After the house tour, it was time for dinner.
The kitchen was open-plan. Watching Yu Xi and Shao Yang bustling about, Zhang Yuxi smiled and asked, "Do you two usually cook for yourselves at home?"
Shao Yang was the assistant, while Yu Xi was the main chef. He replied, "Yes, we try to cook for ourselves as much as possible. I just eat whatever Yu Xi makes these days."
Yu Xi asked him to set the table, and Shao Yang went to do so cheerfully. You could tell he was especially happy today. "We used to have a housekeeper, but after Yu Xi arrived, we decided to become self-reliant."
Dinner consisted of millet porridge and several refreshing, tasty side dishes, including pickles that Yu Xi had made herself. Among the siblings, Yu Xi’s cooking was the best. Compared to the incessantly chattering Shao Yang, Yu Xi always wore a smile and was not nearly as talkative.
The family sat down to eat. As he ate, Shao Yang began outlining the itinerary he had planned for them. Out of their five-day holiday, they had already spent half of it on planes, leaving little time for fun. And there were so many fun places here!
Zhang Yuxi laughed. "We can make our own plans. You two should go on with your busy schedules!"
How could Shao Yang not keep his future in-laws company when they had traveled thousands of miles to see them? Does he want to die?
He quickly assured them, "Yu Xi and I are both free these few days. We’re not busy."
After dinner, Lin Feng and Shao Yang went to play golf. Zhang Yuxi and Yu Xi went for a walk to aid digestion, clearly having things to discuss. Xiaobao, not yet done with her tour, continued her treasure-hunting adventure inside the villa.
Shao Yang had always considered himself an expert at golf, right up until he met Lin Feng.
"Shao Yang," Lin Feng began, "how have you and Yu Xi been getting along these past few months?"
"We’re getting along very well. We’re past the adjustment period and are on the right track now."
"Setting Xiaobao aside, out of my four children, I dote on Yu Xi the most. Ever since she was little, my wife and I have spoiled her. Don’t be fooled by her gentle appearance; she’s actually much more decisive than her second sister." After sinking a ball with one stroke, Lin Feng continued, "Her personality is also quite stubborn. Once she sets her mind on something, she forges ahead with single-minded determination."
Shao Yang understood Lin Feng’s meaning. "Dad, I won’t let her down. There will only be a day when she no longer loves me, never a day when I no longer love her."
While the men chatted, the mother and daughter strolled and talked about everyday family matters.
Zhang Yuxi sighed. "You’ve only been gone from home for a few months, but it feels like several years have passed."
Yu Xi pursed her lips. Hearing such a rare, heartfelt comment from her mother, she was momentarily at a loss for words. In their eyes, their mother had always been a strict figure. It was different when they were children; she was gentle and affectionate, always ready to coax them and make them laugh. But as they grew up, she became stern, rarely showing her tender side.
"That Shao Yang is a good lad," Zhang Yuxi said. "Anyone with eyes can see how he feels about you. But whether a shoe fits is something only the wearer knows. No matter what you choose, our entire family will support you."
Yu Xi walked beside her mother, listening quietly. Then, a glance sideways startled her. At her mother’s temple was a conspicuous strand of white hair. The discovery was as sudden as Xiaobao’s growth spurt. My heart ached at the sight.
"Mom, I know that no matter what I do, you all will support me unconditionally."
Zhang Yuxi noticed the change in her daughter’s expression and paused for a second. Then, a slow smile spread across her face. "That’s right. And that goes for your sisters, too."
Because of the jet lag, Zhang Yuxi couldn’t fall asleep. Lin Feng was fine; he possessed a skill that allowed him to fall asleep in seconds. As it neared 2:00 a.m., Zhang Yuxi’s eyes were still wide open, her mind alert. Lin Feng got up to give her a massage.
"Honey, don’t worry about me. You should sleep." I can’t afford to disturb his rest!
Lin Feng took out an acupuncture needle, which made Zhang Yuxi jump. "Honey, you even brought these with you?"
"Don’t talk. Close your eyes."
Zhang Yuxi had complete faith in Lin Feng’s expertise. A very slight prickling sensation was soon followed by a wave of drowsiness. Before she knew it, Zhang Yuxi had drifted into a deep sleep.
