My College Teacher is My Children's Mom-Chapter 746: Introducing a Partner to Sibao
「Half a month passed in the blink of an eye.」
Lin Daan’s body visibly withered at a rapid pace. In the end, he was nothing but skin and bones, requiring daily visits from a nurse to administer nutritional infusions.
Zhou Cuilan sighed. "The doctor said your Second Uncle has half a year left to live, but now it’s uncertain if he can even make it that long."
Lin Dashan’s expression was grim. "I’m afraid he won’t make it. When I saw him today, he was as white as a sheet and couldn’t even sit up."
Many elderly people say that getting old is a pitiful thing. Besides the burden of illness, one also faces disdain if their family is unkind.
"Fortunately, Second Uncle hasn’t suffered much from his illness," Lin Feng said. This was a great blessing compared to Lin Dahu’s situation. Recalling the time of Lin Dahu’s death, his body had been tormented by various complications that caused him immense suffering.
「Another week passed.」
Er Bao and Si Bao returned. Lin Feng drove to pick them up, while the old couple waited at home with eager anticipation. If not for their failing health, they would have gone to pick up their grandchildren as well. This time, not only Er Bao and Si Bao came back, but also Qin Jiang, who was beaming with pride. Over the phone, Er Bao had mentioned that Qin Jiang was promoted, but she didn’t go into the details. Er Bao didn’t mind anyway, as Qin Jiang’s secretive nature wasn’t anything new to her; she was used to it.
"Dad, how is Second Grandpa doing?"
"Not too well."
For a moment, the car fell into silence. Seeing this, Lin Feng decided to share some good news. "Your grandparents have moved in to live with us."
Lin Feng had raised the children mostly by himself, as their grandparents rarely took care of them. Logically, their bond shouldn’t have been that strong. But the affection between grandparents and grandchildren is special. Just like any other grandparents, they doted on them immensely. If the children wanted something, they bought it. If they wanted to eat something, they cooked it. They fulfilled every request without question, spoiling them rotten. When they grew up, they would still return to their grandparents’ home, where everything was arranged for them as though they were still children.
Upon returning home, they saw the old couple, who had been waiting for a long time. Er Bao and Si Bao, with their lively personalities, got out of the car and immediately ran over to them, their playful antics bringing immense joy to their grandparents. Qin Jiang, on the other hand, appeared somewhat restrained. "Hello, Grandpa and Grandma!"
They had met before, and the old couple was very pleased with this grandson-in-law. The last time he left, they had even given him quite a few red envelopes.
After lunch and a nap, they all went to visit Second Grandpa in the afternoon.
Lin Daan was already unable to walk. Upon seeing the children, however, a tender smile lit up his ashen face.
"You’re back! Come, come, I have some snacks here. Take whatever you like."
His speech was no longer fluid, a fact that filled their hearts with emotion.
Er Bao quickly said, "Second Grandpa, we’re full right now. If we want something, we’ll get it ourselves, okay?"
Outside, his wife, the children’s Second Grand-aunt, secretly wiped away tears. It hasn’t even been that long, yet he’s already become like this.
Zhou Cuilan comforted her, saying that this is a path everyone must walk and that she had to try and accept it. The couple had long been mentally prepared, having already arranged the funeral details and even purchased a burial plot.
For a moment, the room was enveloped in a sorrowful atmosphere. Lin Jiajun had delegated his work to his subordinates, devoting himself entirely to caring for his father, which had taken a visible toll on his own well-being.
On the way back, Xiao Bao asked her grandparents if they too would have such a day. After receiving an affirmative response, she burst into tears. Death is inevitable, and although Xiao Bao was aware of this, she had never truly felt its weight. Her life had always been carefree and joyful. She had watched Second Grandpa deteriorate step by step, and the thought of the same thing happening to her beloved grandparents was more than she could bear. No matter how they tried to console her, she continued to cry, leaving them at a loss.
After parking the car, Er Bao and the others got out of another vehicle. Seeing Xiao Bao crying so heartbreakingly, they grew curious.
"What’s wrong? Why are you crying so hard?"
Xiao Bao had just calmed down a bit, but this question made her start crying all over again. Lin Feng gestured for them to drop the subject, lest they upset Xiao Bao further.
After getting home, Xiao Bao was extra clingy with her grandparents, even coaxing them to wash her face for her. Seeing this, the others began to understand what had happened. Lin Feng’s aunt had passed away suddenly, but the siblings had been too young at the time to remember. When Lin Dahu died, they were only teenagers, so their concept of death was still vague. How could they not be affected this time? However, being older, they naturally wouldn’t express their emotions as openly as Xiao Bao did.
Er Bao had a job in Yangcheng, while Si Bao had nothing pressing to do, so he just stayed home and relaxed. The first day or two were fine; home was a warm haven. Gradually, however, some people started to take issue. Zhou Cuilan, for example, couldn’t help but start nagging. "Si Bao, since you’re just idle at home anyway, why don’t you go out for a walk?"
Si Bao replied, "Grandma, I’m not going anywhere. I’ll stay at home with you."
Zhou Cuilan’s face twitched slightly. "We don’t need your company. You should go out for a walk. Otherwise, how are you going to find a girlfriend?"
Oh, so the girlfriend was the main point.
Si Bao sat up. "Grandma, it’s not like I haven’t tried to find a girlfriend. I guess fate just hasn’t brought me the right person yet. I’m not in a hurry; I’ll take it slow."
Zhou Cuilan frowned. "But you have to go out to meet your fate, don’t you? You spend all day at home playing video games. Are you just going to wait for a girl to fall out of the sky and land on you?"
Si Bao replied with a perfectly straight face, "Hey, you never know. It’s not entirely impossible."
Angered, Zhou Cuilan’s face grew stern. "I may not be well-educated, but that doesn’t mean I’m stupid, okay? Among all you siblings, you’re the only one who isn’t in a relationship!"
Seeing his grandmother getting angry, Si Bao hurriedly tried to placate her. "How about this, Grandma? Why don’t you introduce me to a few girls?"
That caught Zhou Cuilan off guard. Si Bao, growing enthusiastic, pressed on, "The girls you introduce would definitely be reliable and from good families. We’ll go on a blind date, and if we’re compatible, we’ll get married. If not, we can just be friends."
Zhou Cuilan had never really considered setting them up, let alone hiring a matchmaker. After all, her grandsons were all highly sought-after catches. Why would they ever need an introduction?
But since her grandson had said so, of course she had to take on this important task. Her interest piqued, she asked, "Then tell Grandma, what kind of girl do you like?"
Si Bao thought for a moment. "Well, first of all, she can’t be ugly, right? Our family is pretty good-looking. It would be a shame to bring down our collective average."
Zhou Cuilan felt this was a reasonable requirement. She couldn’t set her grandson up with someone unattractive.
"Secondly, as for personality, someone kind, gentle and virtuous, hardworking and serious, or good at managing a household would be fine!"
"Lastly, as for age, someone one or two years older than me is fine, but I don’t want anyone too young."
It felt like he had said a lot, yet nothing specific at all. Still, Zhou Cuilan didn’t think it would be a big problem. Her grandson’s requirements weren’t that difficult to meet.
"Alright, Grandma will inquire around and see if there’s someone suitable for you."
Si Bao urged her, "Great! Go on then, Grandma, start calling and asking now. I’ve actually been wanting to date for a while."
Zhou Cuilan promptly left, but she returned a moment later.
"Have you asked your siblings? Do they know anyone suitable for you?"
Si Bao replied, "Ah? Oh, yes, I’ve asked them. They’re looking for someone for me too."
Now Zhou Cuilan was worried. "Your standards must be incredibly high if you still haven’t found anyone suitable."
Si Bao pleaded innocence. "Grandma, it’s not that I’m too picky. I just haven’t met the right person."
Zhou Cuilan left with a few clucks of disapproval. Finally, Si Bao could play his video games in peace.
Little did he know, the real trouble was still to come
