One kilometer away from the army marching through the Dark Forest, Fang Zhen was operating a drone controller.

His ace in the hole was a DJI Agras T30 agricultural drone.

Fang Zhen had an eager new salesman from his company buy the drone for him on short notice.

As far as Fang Zhen's combat philosophy was concerned, the farther from the enemy, the safer he was.

A knife was inferior to a long spear, a long spear was inferior to a Molotov cocktail, and a Molotov cocktail was inferior to a compound bow or crossbow.

But a compound crossbow's maximum range was less than two hundred meters, while the drone controller in his hands could stream night-vision video from a maximum operating distance of 4.3 miles—a full seven kilometers.

How could a compound crossbow's maximum attack range possibly compare to something beyond visual range?

Moreover, Fang Zhen had rigged the drone with a few nasty surprises of its own.

'No one would actually think I'd charge the Noble Legion all by myself, would they?'

'No way, right?'

Watching the aerial footage streaming to the console in his hands, Fang Zhen began the next step of his operation.

One kilometer away, the army was on the move.

It was unmistakably Viscount Montagu's army.

And he had brought all his elites, at that.

Many soldiers noticed the drone in the sky, but they didn't know what it was.

The drone was flying quite high above the soldiers when, suddenly, something seemed to change.

Abruptly, the drone began spraying a fine, mist-like liquid downward, which fell from the sky just like rain.

The drone moved continuously, spraying rapidly. It deliberately kept its distance from the torch-bearing scouts leading the way, instead hovering repeatedly over the elite soldiers at the rear of the seventy-plus-man army.

"What's that smell?"

A soldier below cried out in alarm.

A peculiar, pungent smell filled the air. The soldiers had never smelled anything like it, though it seemed vaguely similar to oil.

Of course they didn't know; what the drone was spraying was gasoline.

To be precise, it was 97-octane gasoline.

The DJI Agras T30 drone is an agricultural drone from DJI, mainly used for spraying pesticides.

The T30 means that this type of drone can carry 30 liters of pesticide.

This model was extremely efficient; it could spray an entire acre of farmland in just two minutes, and even faster if you tweaked the parameters.

But Fang Zhen hadn't filled the drone with pesticide. Instead, he'd loaded it with a full thirty liters of 97-octane gasoline.

The DJI Agras T30 drone, full of gasoline, cruising in the air, could spray eight to ten liters of pesticide per minute at maximum output.

The spray rate was the same for gasoline.

As the soldiers below stared blankly, a full minute had passed.

Manning the controls, Fang Zhen had already sprayed over eight liters of gasoline, all of it atomized into a fine mist just like pesticide.

He had carefully avoided the soldiers holding torches at the front, concentrating the spray over the heads of Viscount Montagu's elite troops.

A minute isn't long, but it isn't short, either.

Someone in Viscount Montagu's army finally realized something was wrong.

"Shoot it down! There's something wrong with that weird bird's piss! Shoot it down!" a Quasi-Knight yelled.

At that moment, however, the DJI Agras T30 drone suddenly ascended, circling high above.

A kilometer away, Fang Zhen had already seen the commotion below via the video feed.

'Eight liters of gasoline down. You don't even use this much oil when basting kebabs. That should be enough.'

Fang Zhen maneuvered the drone toward the very rear of the army, right above the soldiers carrying torches, and began spraying gasoline straight down.

The gasoline rained down like a fine mist.

Until it met an open flame.

WHOOSH!

A huge fireball erupted, instantly engulfing the elite soldiers at the rear of the army marching through the Dark Forest.

The flames created a chain reaction.

Throughout the army, numerous elite soldiers and even those in iron armor burst into flames. 𝒇𝒓𝙚𝒆𝔀𝓮𝓫𝒏𝓸𝙫𝓮𝓵.𝓬𝙤𝙢

The fire was so intense it was impossible to extinguish.

The soldiers were all doused in gasoline. Once ignited, it was like a lightning strike starting a wildfire; the flames spread uncontrollably, engulfing them in an instant.

Not only that, but the trees along the Dark Path also caught fire, and the blaze spread rapidly.

Soon, the entire army column was burning like a fiery dragon.

Screams echoed ceaselessly.

However, this was not the end.

The DJI Agras T30 drone in the sky was still moving, and still ceaselessly spraying 97-octane gasoline.

The gasoline rained down, flash-igniting the moment it met the fire below, and even causing fuel-air explosions.

The drone was giving a live demonstration of the phrase "adding fuel to the fire."

Below was a sea of flames, filled with unending screams.

Soldiers completely wreathed in flames ran about screaming, turning into living torches. The sight was horrifyingly spectacular.

The violent combustion and explosions also consumed all the nearby oxygen; many soldiers who weren't burned to death ended up suffocating instead.

A kilometer away, Fang Zhen controlled the drone, continuing to spray gasoline.

To put it morbidly, he was like a barbecue master, constantly basting his cuts of meat with oil and seasoning.

That was how it felt to Fang Zhen, too.

The feeling was strangely detached.

This method of killing from beyond visual range was incredibly efficient, and it came with absolutely no psychological burden. Though the scene on the ground was horrific, it felt just like playing a simulation game.

The thought flashed through his mind and was gone. Fang Zhen activated his combat focus, and all thoughts unrelated to killing the enemy ceased to bother him.

In the night, the Dark Forest was lit by a raging fire.

The gasoline had ignited not just Montagu's army, but also large swaths of the surrounding woods.

A swath of the forest had become an inferno, and it was still spreading rapidly.

As the blaze spread, it turned half the sky red, and the air was filled with ceaseless screams.

Fang Zhen operated the drone while retreating.

Wildfires spread quickly; he had to be careful not to get caught in the inferno himself.

He was actually having fun, even finding his groove. He quickly figured out how to use the drone to spread fuel to guide the fire, using the flames to completely surround the soldiers trapped within.

The Heart of Flames was at work; inspiration flooded his mind.

Obviously, Montagu's army could not withstand such a fire attack.

In just a few short minutes, Montagu's army had lost over seventy percent of its men. Charred corpses littered the ground.

Suddenly, an exceptionally savage roar erupted from within the flames.

Viscount Montagu, clad in black armor and mounted on a black steed, leaped from the inferno.

Montagu's mount was clearly of a special bloodline. Though agitated by the fire, it hadn't bolted.

Flanking Viscount Montagu were two Heavy Armored Knights.

There were four Knights in total, but two had been lost in the flames, having been doused with gasoline and set alight.

These two were the only ones left alive.

Montagu took the lead, flanked by his two Heavy Armored Knights. They paid no heed to the other soldiers, simply charging straight ahead and breaking out of the fiery encirclement.

All three Knights were fast, especially Montagu. His black steed was magnificent, and its sprinting speed was extraordinary.

The three riders burst from the inferno and charged straight in Fang Zhen's direction.

Fang Zhen felt no fear.

He used the drone to spray one last wave of gasoline, ensuring that everything in Montagu's army that could burn, was burning.

He had the drone circle overhead, its night vision feed providing him with a panoramic map of the area. He then placed the controller on a crude workbench he'd fashioned from branches, ready to monitor the feed, make adjustments, or abandon it at a moment's notice.

Not far behind him rested a compound crossbow.

To ensure he could kill Montagu, Fang Zhen had brought plenty of powerful equipment, including more than one ranged weapon.

The compound crossbow was already cocked and ready to fire.

It was wedged between two branches, aimed at a fixed angle.

Fang Zhen backed away, melting into the shadows of the forest.

He periodically glanced at the drone's video feed—his God's-eye view from the sky—while steeling himself, ready for battle at a moment's notice.

Montagu and the other two Knights were charging at high speed.

Fang Zhen could already hear the thunder of their hooves, like the beating of war drums, and Montagu's enraged, bestial roars.

He remained unmoved, casually flipping down the left lens of his Night Vision Goggles and preparing to attack.

Mere seconds later, Montagu appeared in his line of sight.

Montagu was completely enraged.

He hadn't seen a single enemy. There had been no warning, not even a proper ambush. Some weird, bird-like thing had just flown overhead spraying who-knows-what—urine, for all he knew—and then a single spark had incinerated his entire army.

Montagu, a man known for his tyranny and ferocity, had never suffered such a humiliating defeat.

Of his entire army, only he and two of his Knights had escaped. All the others were trapped in the inferno, their fates unknown.

What was most infuriating was that, even now, Montagu hadn't even seen his enemy's face.

His fury turning to roars, Montagu spurred his horse into a mad gallop, charging toward Redstone Town.

Montagu seemed to be blaming the people of Redstone Town for everything. By the looks of it, a bloody massacre would be unavoidable the moment he entered the town.

Under the cover of night, Fang Zhen clearly saw Montagu charge toward him.

The distance closed rapidly.

Three hundred meters, two hundred meters, one hundred fifty meters, one hundred meters.

Soon, Montagu had charged to within sixty or seventy meters of Fang Zhen.

In the darkness, however, Montagu didn't spot Fang Zhen hidden in the trees. He just kept charging headlong down the Dark Path.

Suddenly!

As Montagu galloped madly, his steed suddenly lost its footing and went down.

It hadn't just tripped. It had fallen into a trap.

At some point, someone had dug a massive pitfall on the path—three meters across and at least two or three meters deep.

His horse having lost its footing, Montagu plunged into the pitfall.

To make matters worse, the pit was lined with sharpened wooden stakes.

Anyone falling in would be impaled by the sharp stakes, if the fall itself didn't kill them first.

A smirk touched Fang Zhen's lips.

The tasks he'd assigned the people of Redstone Town had been simple: dig deep pits, set up tripwires, and prepare a few other little contraptions.

He hadn't needed to look any of it up online. He remembered it all from an old edition of *One Hundred Thousand Whys* he read as a child. The methods were simple, but their power was undeniable.

He watched as Montagu plunged headfirst into the pitfall trap.

Then, the unexpected happened!
