My Computer Leads to an Instance Dungeon-Chapter 192 - 159: Making Money, Going Abroad, Buying Guns
Fang Zhen had been spending money like water recently, and his cash on hand was running low.
He’d bought the apartment across the hall on the seventh floor, a car, and various pieces of equipment. The money from selling the Cinnabar Ore was already gone, leaving him with just over 600,000 of his personal funds on his card.
Recently, he had purchased three DJI drones, a diesel generator, fuel, as well as silk, ceramics, and tea. He wasn’t some unscrupulous merchant; even for trading in the instance world, he bought high-quality goods, spending about 330,000 to 340,000 on them.
With back taxes due this month for the Gold and Cinnabar Ore trades, on top of paying his employees’ salaries, even the 600,000 on his card wouldn’t be enough to cover his expenses.
Furthermore, he had found a spatial item and was about to go abroad to buy firearms, which also required a significant amount of capital.
He had to replenish his real-world funds quickly. A broken cash flow would be a huge problem.
He looked at the Gold Ropes in the two black leather bags before him, wondering if he should find a place to melt some of them down and sell them as Gold.
Selling the Gold Ropes directly was risky. A small amount could be explained away as gaming merchandise, but who would be extravagant enough to forge hundreds or thousands of fantasy Gold Coins out of real Gold just for fun?
Selling the Gold Ropes would attract unwanted attention.
However, if he melted the Gold Ropes into ingots or bars, it would cause far less trouble.
The Gold Ropes probably weren’t 24-karat gold; their purity was likely a bit lower. If he had them smelted, a skilled craftsman could purify them. Afterward, he could have them cast into ingots and ask He Yilin to use his connections to get a membership at the Modu Gold Exchange, or at least affiliate with one. As long as he got the qualification and paid the full amount of taxes, he could legally trade large quantities of Gold.
Even if he couldn’t get a membership at the Gold Exchange, he could approach factories that needed Gold as a raw material for industrial production. As long as a salesperson could negotiate the terms, selling directly to a factory in need was another option, though the price would be a bit lower.
Regardless, it was a viable channel.
This way, the Gold Ropes could be converted into RMB, albeit with a greater loss during the process.
As Fang Zhen was considering all this, his phone suddenly rang.
He picked up his phone and saw that the caller ID showed He Yilin.
He answered the call.
"General Manager Fang, I’m sorry to call you so late," He Yilin began politely. "But you mentioned you’d be out of touch for a few days on an inspection trip, and I really couldn’t get ahold of you. I hope I’m not disturbing you."
"It’s fine, I’m back now. Is it urgent?" Fang Zhen asked.
"Yes, I have two things to report. The more important one is about the sale of the Dog Head Gold you tasked me with. I’ve completed the paperwork, and we now have interested buyers making inquiries. We could also go through an auction. I’m calling you mainly to get your decision on how to proceed," He Yilin said.
"Oh? So the Dog Head Gold can be legally traded now?" Fang Zhen asked, his eyes brightening slightly.
"Yes. I found a company with a Gold import-export license to file some supplementary documents. The procedures are now legal, but we’ll need to pay back taxes and some administrative fees for processing," He Yilin replied.
Fang Zhen was quite satisfied.
A few days ago when he returned home, in addition to having his people order the drones, he had also contacted He Yilin and asked the vice president to handle the paperwork for the Dog Head Gold.
Among the spoils he had obtained from the Dogman Mine in the Nameless World were two pieces of Dog Head Gold. After bringing them back, he had simply placed them on his nightstand as decorations. He hadn’t been short on money at the time, so he never got around to selling them.
A few days ago, when Fang Zhen realized his financial situation was dire and he was out of cash, he suddenly remembered the Dog Head Gold and asked He Yilin to find a way to retroactively file the necessary paperwork for it.
As everyone knows, mineral extraction in Xia Country is strictly regulated. He had previously assumed that if a piece of Dog Head Gold was discovered, it would have to be confiscated by the state, so he wasn’t entirely sure about the rules.
But after some in-depth research, he found that there were some state-issued guideline documents that mentioned surface-level gold deposits like Dog Head Gold. The official stance was ’recover if possible,’ not ’must be recovered’ or ’mandatory recovery.’
The difference in wording created a lot of leeway.
After some maneuvering, the Dog Head Gold now had its taxes paid and the necessary paperwork filed, making it eligible for sale.
As for how to sell it, he could either find a buyer himself or put it up for auction.
"Do you recommend a direct transaction with an interested buyer, or should we go with an auction?" Fang Zhen asked.
"I think we should sell it directly to a buyer," He Yilin said after a moment’s thought. "The current economic climate isn’t great, so fewer people are attending auctions. There aren’t that many potential buyers interested in Dog Head Gold to begin with. Besides, the auction world is murky, and the auction house would take a hefty commission."
"If we have a reliable buyer, a direct sale is more dependable and efficient than an auction."
"We have a few potential buyers right now. Who has the deepest pockets and the highest offer?" Fang Zhen asked.
"A gentleman named Chen Baokun. I’ve heard of him; he’s a very famous and influential figure in the Xiahai business world," He Yilin replied.
"Him?" Fang Zhen immediately recalled the man. ’Isn’t he the one who bought my Holy Goblet and Holy Plate?’
Chen Baokun had always been very interested in Gold ornaments, so it made sense that he wanted to buy the Dog Head Gold. It was just a bit of a coincidence that the seller was, once again, Fang Zhen.
"What do you know about Chen Baokun? What’s his background?" Fang Zhen asked.
"Chen Baokun is the vice president of the Xiahai Commerce Association and the vice president of the Xiahai Artists Association. He also seems to have some kind of official government position, though I’m not clear on the specifics. But..." He Yilin hesitated for a moment before continuing, "his most mysterious identity is that he’s rumored to be an important figure in the Hongmen."
