My Dragon King System-Chapter 316: Wild Goose Chase
The landscape had been utterly devastated with massive fissures splitting the terrain.
Craters the size of buildings scarred the ground and their edges had the glowing of residual heat from Thera’s molten attacks.
And at the center of it all was the archon’s massive golem.
The towering construct of stone and molten lava loomed over the battlefield like a titan from ancient myth.
Before the golem lay the broken remains of Akravos, Demon Lord of Carnage.
His monstrous form had been torn apart piece by piece and scattered across the ground.
Their surfaces still twitched every now and then despite being detached from the main body.
His massive octopus-like head was now smashed beyond recognition and black blood leaked from countless wounds, pooling beneath what remained of his corpse.
It had been a given outcome, really.
No matter how powerful Akravos had been among demon lords, he could never hope to match an Archon in direct combat.
The gap in strength was simply too vast.
Morrigan was still alive, though Thera’s golem had one of its massive stone feet pressed firmly against the neck of her spectral titan, pinning it in place.
The translucent figure was trapped beneath, with its hands clawing at the golem’s foot in a desperate attempt to push it off.
Inside the spectral entity’s chest, Morrigan herself could be seen gritting her teeth as she poured everything she had into trying to break free.
Sweat dripped down her face, and her entire body trembled from exertion as she fought against the crushing pressure bearing down on her construct.
Then her eyes went wide.
A sudden realization struck her painfully.
Her children, Asmodai and Astaroth.
They were gone.
Rage exploded within the mother of demons, so intense it felt like fire burning through every fiber of her being.
Her mana swelled, surging outward in a violent burst of purple energy that radiated from her body in waves.
The spectral titan responded immediately to her emotions as more power poured into it.
"AAAHHHHH!" Morrigan screamed a sound filled with grief and fury and desperation all at once and the titan roared with her.
The massive hands that had been clawing uselessly at the golem’s foot suddenly gripped harder and began to push.
Thera’s eyes widened in surprise from within her golem’s core. She hadn’t expected this.
The golem’s foot began to lift slowly off the titan’s neck as Morrigan’s spectral entity pushed upward with all its might
Inch by inch, Morrigan forced the golem’s foot backward until finally, the spectral titan broke free, forcing thera’s golem to stumble a bit backwards.
The translucent figure rose back to its full height, towering over the battlefield once more as purple energy crackled around it like lightning. Its twin blades came up into ready positions as it faced Thera’s golem.
Then it attacked, swinging one of its massive curved blades in a wide horizontal arc aimed directly at the golem’s midsection.
As the blade moved through the air, it carried with it a slash wave so powerful that it expanded outward as it moved.
Mountains loomed behind the battlefield, and then suddenly their peaks vanished as the slash wave had passed through them effortlessly, cleaving entire mountaintops away.
The severed peaks tumbled downward in slow motion before crashing into valleys below with thunderous impacts that shook the ground for miles around!
Thera’s golem responded immediately as one massive stone fist extended forward to meet the incoming slash wave head-on.
The two forces collided with a catastrophic impact that sent shockwaves rippling outward in every direction.
For a moment, neither side gave ground, then Thera’s golem shifted its weight and deflected the slash wave upward with a sharp movement of its wrist!
Morrigan’s spectral titan staggered backward from having its attack deflected so forcefully.
Thera took advantage of that opening, as the golem brought both its massive hands together, with its fingers interlocking in a specific hand seal.
From within her construct’s core, Thera spoke in a calm voice;
"You may be able to summon Arzun’s power, but you’re nowhere close to the level of an Archon."
And in a solemn tone, she whispered "Everything returns to earth."
The moment those words left her lips, reality itself responded.
This was Thera’s Law, an absolute decree that imprinted itself onto reality and according to her will.
Petrification began spreading across Morrigan’s titan. Her eyes went wide with shock as she watched stone creep across the surface of her construct.
A construct made entirely of pure energy, and yet it was being forced to turn solid anyway.
"What?!" she gasped in disbelief.
The petrification spread rapidly, starting at the titan’s feet and crawling upward across its legs, torso, arms. consuming everything it touched.
Morrigan herself wasn’t spared either, as stone began creeping up her own legs from where she was within the titan.
She looked down at herself in horror.
"No!" she screamed desperately, but there was nothing she could do to stop it.
Behind them both, even Akravos’s torn corpse wasn’t exempt from Thera’s Law.
The severed tentacles scattered across the battlefield began turning to stone as well.
"It’s over." Thera said
——
Elsewhere...
Adam floated in the sky, alone in the middle of nowhere, though below him was an ocean.
Suspended on air before him was an old tome bound in golden leather, and in his right hand he held a pen that glowed with divine light as he scribbled hastily onto one of those pages.
His handwriting was neat despite how quickly he wrote:
"As soon as the fallen angel appears before me again... I, Adam, will find myself miles away from him."
This was his power. Story Weaving; the ability to write events into reality.
And for the last several minutes now, it had been all that kept him alive.
He finished writing just as space began warping open behind him. He was so used to this by now that he didn’t even bother turning around to look.
A portal circled open behind him and Samael emerged through it with fury written across his face.
But before the fallen angel had passed through completely, Adam’s form dissolved instantly like mist under sunlight and reappeared somewhere else.
Several miles away at a random spot on the planet.
