My Dragon King System-Chapter 338: The King’s Castle
And then, one by one, they roared.
The sound was bone-shaking, but was also declaration of reverence and loyalty, reverberating through the air.
Each roar made members of Ravens Grave flinch instinctively, with several of them taking half-steps backward.
Piers’s hand had even gone to his sword hilt out of pure reflex.
Each dragon had landed with a thud powerful enough to shake the ground beneath their feet.
But Aiden, Laela, and Arianna had smiles on their faces. For them, this was normal. This was home.
Rin and Aeris also had similar reactions. It wasn’t their first time dealing with this
"Thank you, Varac," Aiden said as he approached the dragonkin at the gate.
Varac bowed his head deeply, placing one clawed hand over his heart in a gesture of absolute loyalty. "It is only my duty, my liege. Nothing more."
Aiden reached out and tapped him lightly on the shoulder, a gesture that made Varac’s eyes brighten with joy.
As Aiden moved past him, Varac’s attention shifted to Arianna and Laela, who still cradled their newborns.
His expression turned into genuine happiness.
"My Queens," he began. "I speak from the hearts of everyone assembled here, all of the King’s loyal servants, when I say thank you for bearing the children of our liege. It brings us no greater joy than to witness—"
"Thank you, Varac," Laela interrupted amusingly.
Arianna chuckled as well. If Laela hadn’t cut him off, Varac might very well have delivered an entire speech right there at the gates.
"Thank you, Varac," Arianna added as she and Laela stepped forward past him.
Varac bowed again.
Asides Rin and Aeris who moved right along, the other members of Ravens Grave were still standing frozen in awe.
"Guests of the King," Varac announced. "I welcome you to the King’s Castle."
He gestured broadly toward the entrance.
"As specially invited guests, you will be treated with no less respect than the King’s own family. Our halls are open to you. Our hospitality is yours without reservation. Should you require anything, sustenance, rest, entertainment, guidance, you need only ask, and it shall be provided. The King’s domain is vast and filled with wonders, and we encourage you to explore freely, knowing you are protected and honored here. It is our privilege to host those whom our liege calls friends."
He bowed once more.
Aiden rolled his eyes and shook his head with amusement.
Varac had been his most loyal created servant. When Aiden had populated this realm with dragons and other beings, Varac had been the first and only dragonkin.
A unique creation designed specifically to manage the castle and coordinate the various dragons who called this place home.
He took his duties incredibly seriously. Perhaps too seriously at times.
But his loyalty was absolute, and his heart was genuine.
With the speech concluded, Aiden gestured for the Ravens Grave members to follow.
The castle’s main doors, were enormous slabs of stone and the opened silently as everyone approached.
The entrance was vast, with a ceiling that soared at least 200 feet overhead. The floor was polished black marble and massive pillars rose on either side of the main walkway.
Each one had intricate carvings depicting dragons in various poses: soaring through clouds, breathing fire, coiled around mountains, locked in aerial combat.
The ceiling itself was a masterwork. It appeared to be made of dark stone, but embedded within it were thousands of points of light that created the impression of looking up at a night sky filled with stars.
At the far end of the receiving hall, a grand staircase ascended to the upper levels. The stairs were wide enough for ten people to walk abreast, and they curved elegantly as they rose, splitting into two separate paths that led to different wings of the castle.
The Ravens Grave members stood just inside the entrance as they tried to take in every detail at once. Several mouths hung open.
Elena looked like she might actually faint from sensory overload.
And standing at the top of the grand staircase was the Archangel
Uriel.
Her blonde-white hair caught the light, and her wings were folded and she had a warm expression as she gazed down at the group below.
When her eyes found Aiden, her smile widened."Welcome home," she said.
Uriel descended the staircase and when she reached the bottom, she moved directly to Aiden and embraced him.
Then she turned her attention to the babies, her expression melting into pure joy.
"May I?" she asked Arianna, who smiled and carefully transferred little Andrea into Uriel’s arms.
The angel cradled the infant, gazing down at the tiny face with wonder. "She’s perfect," Uriel whispered, gently touching the baby’s small hand. "Look at those eyes. Your father’s eyes."
Andrea made a small sound, and Uriel smiled.
After a moment, she carefully handed Andrea back to Arianna and turned to Laela. "And this handsome one?"
Laela shifted Tristan in her arms, allowing Uriel to take him as well. The angel held him with the same tender care, studying his face with fascination.
"And he has your beautiful eyes," Uriel said while looking up at Laela. "This one’s sure to break hearts when he grows up."
Tristan yawned, revealing his tiny fangs, and Uriel laughed softly.
She reluctantly returned Tristan to Laela’s arms, then stepped back to address both women directly, placing a hand over her heart.
"Congratulations," Uriel said sincerely. "Both of you. You’ve brought two beautiful souls into this world."
Laela and Arianna both as they were touched by her words.
Behind them, the members of Ravens Grave stood in various states of amazement.
Elena’s legs suddenly felt unsteady. "I think," she began, reaching out to grip Bernard’s arm for support, "I need to sit down."
Bernard, just as overwhelmed said. "Yeah. Me too."
Piers let out a shaky laugh as he watched them both sit on the ground.
Uriel then continued, "I have gifts for them. Is it okay by you both?"
Arianna and Laela glanced at each other for a brief second and nodded, almost in unison
