My Dragon King System-Chapter 351: The Battle Of Guild Captains (I)
Team B catching onto Azam was within expectations, which is why the smoke screen wasn’t just for him.
Under the cover of that thick gray haze, Greyfus positioned himself carefully. He angled his palms downward and unleashed controlled bursts of explosion magic from both hands.
BOOM!
The force propelled him forward like a rocket, with additional blasts from his feet to maintain the momentum and trajectory.
His body shot through the air in a blur of speed, arcing over the sticky substance that had trapped Azam as he soared toward Team B’s glowing line.
He was this close to crossing it.
However Daegal, stationed at Team B’s line, had been watching carefully. His eyes tracked Greyfus’s trajectory through the dissipating smoke and at the last possible moment, just as Greyfus was about to cross, Daegal called out;
"Gale Burst."
A massive blast of wind erupted from Daegal’s outstretched hand to his right side. The wind blast hit Greyfus, hurling him away violently away from the line.
He crashed hard into the ground at the far corner of the field, sending up a cloud of dust.
The remnants of the explosion’s smoke had cleared out completely, revealing Ursula with three glowing magic circles of blue energy infront of her.
And right then, those circles unleashed concentrated blasts of energy.
The three beams shot forward in perfect synchronization, each one aimed at a different target: Elian, Melisende, and Veron.
Elian raised his paintbrush wand and swept it horizontally in a fluid motion. As he did, streaks of glowing paint materialized in the path of his gesture.
The painted lines solidified into an invisible barrier, an air wall reinforced by his Art Magic.
The celestial blast struck it head-on.
CRAAACK!
The impact sent fractures racing across the surface of the invisible wall, as though the air itself had split apart.
However, the barrier held firm, and the energy dispersed against it before fading away.
Melisende thrust her hand toward the incoming blast aimed at her causing vibrations that began radiating outward from her palm in visible waves.
"Resonance Shield," she muttered.
The vibrations intensified rapidly until they formed a wall of oscillating force directly in front of her.
When Ursula’s celestial blast collided with it, the two forces clashed violently.
The vibrations disrupted the cohesion of the energy beam, breaking it apart into scattered fragments of blue light that dissipated into the air around her.
But Captain Veron took a different approach.
Instead of blocking or countering the blast coming toward her, she simply twisted her body mid-flight and weaved past it with.
The beam shot past her as she continued forward without breaking stride.
Her eyes were locked onto Elena’s position at Team A’s line.
She thrust one hand forward as she flew, and three large magic circles formed beside her in rapid succession.
Each glowed with a sharp silver light, and from them emerged massive swords that were no less than ten feet long.
Veron’s lips curved into a slight smirk as she directed them forward with a flick of her wrist whispering "Sword Magic."
The three swords shot forward like missiles toward Elena with devastating speed and force.
Elena remained still at her line, watching them approach without any sign of alarm on her face.
When the swords were only meters away from reaching her, Elena raised one hand calmly.
"Water Magic: Great Water Wall."
A massive wall of water erupted from the ground in front of her, rising like a tidal wave. But this wasn’t just a simple barrier; the wall extended its full length horizontally, stretching all the way to both edges of Team A’s boundary line.
It created a complete barricade that blocked not only the incoming swords, but also any path Veron might take to bypass Elena and breach their line directly.
The three swords struck the water wall and immediately lost all momentum, sinking into the swirling mass before dissolving as their magical energy dispersed into the water.
The great wall of water parted slightly in the center, creating an opening just wide enough for Elena to step through. The moment she passed, the water sealed itself back up seamlessly.
Now Elena stood in front of Veron, with a calm expression on her face. She knew with absolute certainty that nothing would get past that wall of water behind her to reach and cross Team A’s line.
From the sidelines, Oliver watched with an approving smile on his face. The younger members of Ravens Grave beside him had their eyes wide with awe as they marveled at the sheer scale and control their guild master displayed.
"That’s Guild Master Elena for you," one of them whispered, unable to hide the admiration in his voice.
As part Aiden’s alterations to the world three years ago, he had deliberately elevated Elena’s base magic strength from E to SS rank.
This elevation also meant that her mana pool had also increased significantly.
So when swords of S-rank strength came at her, they were of no effect against her defenses. 𝕗𝚛𝚎𝚎𝐰𝗲𝗯𝗻𝚘𝚟𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝕞
Veron’s smirk faded as she hovered in place, reassessing her approach against the ravens grave captain.
——
At the part of the field where Azam had been trapped, the ground was still covered in Elian’s sticky substance.
The captain’s feet were buried ankle-deep, and every attempt to pull free only seemed to make it worse. The more he pulled, the tighter it held
"Damn it," Azam muttered. He took a breath and at that moment, applied his velocity magic differently.
Instead of trying to move forward, Azam reversed the concept.
He channeled his magic inward, creating a localized field of negative acceleration around his trapped feet. This essentially created a zone where all motion and velocity were being reduced to zero.
The sticky substance’s adhesive grip worked by holding on to anything that moved through it, but by nullifying all acceleration and movement in that zone, there was no directional force for the substance to maintain its hold against.
Azam maintained his magic, knowing that nothing truly bound him now, even though he remained standing in that spot.
He lifted his face toward Team B’s line, and immediately locked eyes with Daegal.
The captain of Fractured Stars was staring directly at him, completely alert.
But it wasn’t just that.
Azam’s eyes widened slightly as he noticed a subtle shimmer in the air around Team B’s boundary. A barrier of wind was protecting their line, mimicking Elena’s defensive strategy on their own side.
Both captains then smirked at each other in acknowledgment.
Knowing he couldn’t proceed as planned, Azam leaped backward, launching himself out of the sticky zone’s range. Before readjusting his velocity magic to race back toward Team A’s side in a blur of motion.
The field the captains battled on was a really large one, stretching just a bit over a hundred yards between the two boundary lines.
While Azam raced back toward Team A’s side, his eyes caught the ongoing exchange at the center of the field. Veron hovered just slightly above the ground, conjuring sword after sword and sending them toward Elena.
But the guild master of Ravens Grave moved with effortless grace, summoning small circles of water that intercepted each blade, deflecting them harmlessly away.
Azam’s eyes narrowed as an opportunity presented itself.
He quickly diverted from his path, angling his trajectory toward Veron instead. His velocity magic surged through his body as he launched himself off the ground, using his accumulated momentum to propel him forward.
For a brief moment, it seemed as though the world itself had slowed; a cinematic pause that captured every detail of his movement.
Veron sensed the incoming presence as she turned sharply to her left—
But it was already too late.
The exact moment her face came into view, Azam’s fist connected squarely with her chin.
The impact was devastating and Veron’s head snapped back violently as her entire body was sent hurtling through the air.
She crashed into the ground with tremendous force, tumbling and skidding across the dirt before finally coming to a stop several meters away.
A good number of the crowd watching crumpled their faces as though they were the ones who’d taken that devastating punch.
"Damn," a certain mage muttered, raising his fist to cover his mouth in a wince.
Elena looked toward where Veron had crashed and shook her head.
"That was harsh, Mr. Azam," she said in tone carrying genuine pity for Crimson Dawn’s guild captain.
Azam turned toward her and scratched the back of his head awkwardly, looking a bit remorseful. "Ah... yeah. Maybe I came in a little too hot there."
