My Evil Crown Prince-Chapter 102: The Suspects
The Jackson twins allowed the investigators to check their rooms. First was Stephen’s bedroom.
Investigator Lee entered a room bigger than his apartment unit. It was neat and everything was in order. It had a very stylish masculine aura and mysterious atmosphere in which earth-tone colors were used.
Two dim lights on each side of the bed were attached to the wood-textured wall, giving a very comfortable and attractive ambiance.
Stephen Jackson was the younger twin, but he looked more serious and strict than Skyler Jackson. And his room only shows his personality.
"Are you going to question as separately?" Skyler asked.
Investigator Lee nodded. "Yes."
"So, do I have to go out? Or can I stay here?"
Skyler’s question was a bit awkward. The investigator just mentioned that they will be questioned initially so it should be clear to the twins that they have to be alone during questioning.
Investigator Lee knew that Skyler wanted to stay with his younger brother.
"I apologize but you have to step out for a while."
Skyler looked at the old man. He was checking him from head to toe. The investigator felt uncomfortable because he had been stared at twice.
"Skyler, I’ll be fine," Stephen said.
Skyler nodded and quickly walked out of the room.
"I’m sorry. He’s just worried. You know, twins."
Investigator Lee just nodded. He took a voice recorder and placed it on top of the table. Stephen calmly crossed his legs as the investigators started to get information.
"State your full name, please." Josh, the younger investigator, said.
"Stephen Jackson."
"How old are you Stephen?" Investigator Lee asked.
"Seventeen."
"And you are a minute younger than your twin?"
Stephen nodded. "A minute and fifteen seconds to be exact."
"Do you know Benjamin Miller?"
"Only by name. Never met him." Stephen answered.
"What do you know about him?"
"Nothing much. I know he’s a liar and a murderer."
"Do you know what happened twelve years ago?"
Stephen frowned. "Are you asking me about the events in Flousia?"
Investigator Lee nodded. He waited for Stephen’s answer and was surprised to hear him chuckle.
"What’s funny?"
"Sorry. But if you want to know about what happened in Flousia twelve years ago, you’re asking the wrong person. Me and my brother were in Switzerland when it happened. Our family was invited to Uncle Kyle’s coronation, but our Aunt wanted us to stay at her place so we didn’t go." Stephen answered.
"But your parents were there." Josh commented.
Stephen nodded. "Yes. Because only me and Skyler were in Switzerland. We stayed for three months. We have our old passports if you need proof. But can I ask your reason for asking about what happened in the past?"
"Nothing. We’re just—"
"Oh! You’re connecting dots, right? You want to know if we have a motive to kill that man. I don’t have a motive. I just hate him because of what he did to my friends. But I don’t have a deeper grudge against him."
Investigator Lee had a frown on his face when Stephen cut him off. The young man was known to be serious and strict, but he was too jolly and relaxed sitting on the chair in front of the investigators.
"Where were you the day Benjamin was killed?" Investigator asked instead.
Stephen scratched his chin and looked like he was thinking.
"Let’s see. That was the 26th, right? I’m at home."
"And the night before?"
"At home. We didn’t leave Queen’s."
"We? Meaning all of you?" Investigator Lee asked.
"Not really. Lucas and Brie went out the night before to buy some snacks."
"Where did they go? And they were gone for how long?" Investigator Lee asked with a frown on his face.
"More than an hour or two. I’m not sure. That day, Alira didn’t wake up. She was sick so we’re all worried. We decided to stay home, and that night, we all agreed to watch a movie. Lucas and Brie lost in a game so they were asked to buy coffee and snack."
The investigator deeply sighed and after writing some notes. He asked Stephen to step out of his room and call Skyler.
"State your name, please." Josh started.
"Skyler Jackson."
"How old are you?"
"Seventeen."
"Okay, Skyler. Do you know Benjamin Miller?" The older investigator asked.
Skyler nodded. "Yeah. He’s our family’s enemy."
"Enemy? What do you mean?"
"He’s the Wilson Clan’s enemy. Uncle Luke and Aunt Alora are our parents’ best friends. Their enemy is our enemy." Skyler said.
Investigator Lee nodded. He thought he would get some relevant information from the older twin, but Skyler’s reason was a bit childish.
"Do you know what happened twelve years ago?"
Skyler frowned, but eventually nodded after realizing what Investigator Lee had asked him.
"In Flousia? Yes. But I wasn’t there when it happened so I only know things that were told by my friends."
Investigator Lee nodded. As the younger twin said, they were not present during the attack twelve years ago.
"Where were you the night before the 26th?"
"Here. We were watching a movie."
"Your brother said that only Lucas Wilson and Brie Cross went out that night."
Skyler’s eyebrows curved. "Are you asking for confirmation if my brother was right or if he’s lying? You know that I will just agree with what he said so I don’t think that was your real question."
Investigator Lee chuckled. "You’re both smart. I’m impressed."
"Thank you for the compliment. If you want to know if I have a motive, I guess I have. But my anger against Benjamin wasn’t enough for me to kill him."
"How about your friends? Are you saying they have a deeper hatred toward Benjamin Miller and they could be the killer?" Investigator Josh asked.
Skyler stared into the young investigator’s eyes.
"Even a person not close to Benjamin could have a motive. His crimes were televised worldwide and I think you know what the people on the internet said about him. There were a lot of hateful comments toward him and some of them wanted Benjamin dead."
The investigators forgot that they were talking to the heir of Media Tech—the largest media and network company in the country.
"Are you telling us that someone not related to Benjamin could be the killer?" Investigator Lee asked.
"Why not? Everyone could be a suspect. Even the police."
"I don’t think the police—"
"Oh come on! Don’t tell me you didn’t think of that possibility. Benjamin was killed inside his cell. Only the police or someone powerful could enter where he was. Besides, he was being guarded. Why would you investigate and question us first?"
"We were asked to investigate you first. I agree with you. Thank you for giving us that thought." Investigator Lee bowed.
Skyler waved his hand. "You’re welcome, but you don’t have to bow. I apologize for meddling with your investigation. I’m from the media so I was carried away."
Investigator Lee slightly smiled. Then he suddenly got an idea.
"Since you have Media Tech, would you mind helping us with the investigation?"
"With all due respect, Media Tech will not side with anyone. As I said, we’re all suspects. Benjamin’s life was shown in public and everyone who watched it could be involved in his death. We will have our own investigation to find the real killer." Skyler answered.
"I understand." Investigator Lee said.
"But sir, he’s too young to–"
"Investigator Josh, don’t worry about me. I’m just going to assign a group of grown-ups to handle this case. And I will tell them to not intervene with your investigation." Skyler said with a smile on his face.
After completing their notes, they went back to the living room to meet the others. Investigator Lee looked at the young people seated on the sofa.
They were the sons and daughters of the wealthiest and most powerful families in the country. They were young, but he admits they were all smart and acted like adults.
He sighed and stepped closer to Lucas Wilson. Looking at the young man, he remembered Luke Wilson. Lucas looked like his father with his black hair and blue eyes.
"Is it my turn?" Lucas asked.
Investigator Lee nodded. "But we’ll talk here. And check on the rooms after."
"That’s fine. Leave us."
The others stood up to leave the living room.
"The twins. They’re lying about having a movie night with you guys." Investigator Lee said.
Lucas didn’t bat an eye. He was calmly sitting across from Investigator Lee, staring at him.
"Do you expect me to say yes?"
"Mr.Wilson, lying will only make them suspects."
Lucas didn’t answer. He took his phone and showed Investigator Lee a post from the night before the 26th of June.
"Brie posted this on her social media accounts the night before Benjamin was found dead. And this photo was posted by Natalia."
Investigator Lee checked the posted photo. It was the Jackson twins with the Hulls siblings and Natalia Parker.
"Both were just photos posted the same night. But would that post be enough to clear our names? Photos can be edited and the truth can be twisted. I can tell you that what the Jackson twins’ statement is the truth and I can also say that it wasn’t."
