My Evil Crown Prince-Chapter 72: The Break Up
As soon as the partition window closed, she snatched her arm to Caden. She saw him tilted his head and clenched his jaw, trying to calm himself.
"So, what’s your deal? Do you intend to always humiliate me in front of my men?"
She turned to him and hissed. "What’s my deal? Do you realize what you just did?"
A frown flickers across Caden’s forehead. "It’s not a big deal. I just threatened them to get the information I need. They will not waver if they don’t fear me."
"I can’t believe you! You’re being clouded by revenge, Caden."
Caden threw her a hard look, and his mouth was set in a firm line. She saw a glint of disappointment in his eyes.
"If you just keep on doing what I hated the most, I don’t think this will work." She exclaimed.
"Are you breaking up with me?" Caden frowned.
She knew what she said was just because of her anger, but she couldn’t take it back anymore. She bit her lip and nodded.
"Y-Yes! I don’t think I can handle it." She whispered.
Caden didn’t say a word for a moment, then she heard him sigh. "Fine! Then let’s break up! If this is what you want, I’ll give it to you."
She wasn’t able to respond. She was also surprised that he quickly agreed with it. He took his phone and dialed a number. Her heart felt being stabbed a thousand times when she heard Caden’s words.
"Make an announcement tomorrow about the engagement. It’s cancelled. And I think I have to drop out of Golden Oak. Prepare a flight for me. I’ll go back to Flousia."
The silence on the way to Queens was deafening. Caden kept quiet and was just looking outside. She couldn’t say a word because she was the one who asked for the breakup. But she didn’t actually expect him to agree and announce it the next day.
When they arrived at Queens, Caden didn’t look at her and went inside the mansion. He quickly stepped into his room and shut the door.
Tears fell from her eyes, so she ran to her bedroom and cried. She was worried, scared, and mad at him. She was worried that the people who found out about him would reveal his secret. She was scared that he would kill Juliano, Mary, and Victoria. Lastly, she was mad because he treated her like she wasn’t there, and she felt like Caden didn’t care about her feelings.
She heard a few knocks on the door before someone stepped inside. She thought it was Caden, but when she looked at who it was, it was Elisia and Caroline.
"Can we sit?" Elisia asked.
She nodded while wiping the tears from her eyes.
"Are you sure you’re okay with your breakup? Caden called Skyler about an announcement of your canceled engagement." Elisia started.
She sobbed, hearing Elisia’s words.
"Why are you crying when you’re the one who asked for it? Are you stupid?" Caroline scolded her.
"Caroline!" Elisia called out to her cousin.
"What? I’m just telling the truth. I asked my brother, and he said you’re the one who wanted it. He’s packing his things and will go back to Flousia. Is that what you want?" Caroline ranted.
She couldn’t answer and just cried. Caroline was just stating the fact. She was the one who suggested it, but why was she crying? She thought inwardly.
"Alira, are you really sure about this? Once the announcement has been made and Caden went back to Flousia, the elders will force him to marry someone else. I understand what you felt seeing him act as the mafia boss, but do you really think being a Crown Prince or the King is way better? Believe me, being a royal is not easy. My father tainted his hands with the blood of his people. He didn’t do the act, but he ordered it. It’s no difference. If you can’t stand by my cousin’s side through thick and thin, then I guess cancelling the engagement is a good idea."
"I-I was mad at him. I didn’t mean it. It also surprised me when he suddenly agreed." She sobbed.
Caroline rolled her eyes. "I hate you for being so weak. What will happen to Flousia if its future Queen is someone like you? It’s better if my brother marries another girl."
Elisia sighed and shook her head while looking at Caroline walked out of Alira’s bedroom.
"I thought you already decided to be both his Crown Princess and future wife of the Mafia Boss. But you always falter. You can’t be with him if you’re like that. You’ll be the death of him."
Elisia left her alone. Her heart was in pain and her head was a mess. Why would she feel scared of Caden every time he would do his duty as the Boss of the Forelli Clan? She wanted to suport him and stay at his side. But what was it that’s holding her back? She thought to herself.
She wanted to stop Caden from leaving and stay engaged to him. But she had to be firm with her decision. She already told him a lot of time that she would stay with him, but as Elisia said, she always falter.
She took her phone and dialed Lucas’ number. She had no one to talk to about Caden. Samantha and the others wouldn’t understand because they had no idea about Caden’s other identity.
"Thank goodness, you’re okay!" She exclaimed. "What happened?"
"I’ll tell when we get home. Why did you call?" Lucas asked.
She hesitated at first and started crying. "We broke up. The announcement will be made tomorrow. What should I do, Lucas?"
Lucas sighed. "Calm down, Alira. Did you fight because of what happened earlier?"
Alira sniffled. "I was mad and scared. I thought I will be fine seeing him do those things, but I felt like I was looking at a stranger. I don’t know anything about him except what we had when we were six."
She heard a few knocks again before Lucas entered her bedroom. She ended the call and ran toward his brother to cry on his arms.
"I don’t want to break up with him, but I don’t know if I can really accept him being the Mafia Boss."
Lucas wrapped his arms around her to comfort her. Then he took her on the couch so they could talk.
"Alira, for the past twelve years Caden had set his mind to avenge his sister’s death. And it’s not only for her, it’s for you and for all of us. I understand him as someone who has a sister. If it happened to me, I’ll do the same. You know I won’t let anyone hurt you."
"B–But how can I accept it? I don’t know what to do, Lucas. I’ve been trying to understand him."
Lucas patted her head. "You’ve been looking at him as that boy from the past. The one who followed you around, begging you to marry him. It’s been twelve years Alira, and Caden experienced a lot of bad things. He had a hard time even in the palace. Unlike you who had your family’s back for those years, Caden had no one. Uncle Kyle and Aunt Emily took care of him, but it’s different if it was your real parents. You always thought that he abandoned you, but somehow, he was also abandoned. By us."
"But if I only knew what he was going through I–"
"Will you go to him? What can you possibly do at such a young age? I was also to blame with what happened to him. I am his best friend, but I didn’t even ask if what his day was every time he calls me. I didn’t even recognize that his voice became colder and colder every time we talk." Lucas paused and took a deep breath.
"Alira, I’m not going to ask you to stay with him. It’s completely up to you. I want you to think carefully. You can’t just tell him you will stay then get mad at him after. You should forget that boy in the past because Caden would never let go of his plan to take down his grandfather."
Lucas let her rest and she fell asleep because of exhaustion.
"Are you okay with this?" Lucas asked Caden.
He came to check on Alira when he knew she was already sleeping.
Caden sighed. "I can’t just forget and let Benjamin ruin our lives again. Alira and Caroline is his target. How can I possibly stop? It pains me seeing her disappointment toward me. I think this is the best for both of us."
Lucas sighed. "Are you really going back to Flousia?"
Caden shook his head. "How could I? Knowing that they already started their move here. Just don’t tell her."
"How about your engagement?" Lucas asked.
"The announcement will be made tomorrow. You know it’s for her safety." Caden said.
Lucas nodded and left Caden in his sister’s bedroom.
Caden stared at his fiance’s face for the last time. He leaned over, giving her one last kiss on the lips.
