My Fated Mate Can Have Her-Chapter 104: Ambush
Violet
My blood went cold as I sensed wolves. Multiple wolves where the boy headed. They were also positioned in a way that suggested they were lying in wait.
The boy hadn’t sensed them. I could tell by the way he walked in, still clutching his pouch, completely unaware of the danger.
My heart lurched into my throat.
No.
A surge of energy went through me and I rushed towards the entrance of that alleyway. I didn’t have a concrete plan, but I couldn’t just stand there and watch.
The alley was narrow, shadowed by the buildings pressing close on either side. And it wasn’t empty.
There were six wolves. Three had already shifted into their wolf forms, large, muscular beasts with fur ranging from black to brown. Their lips were pulled back, baring sharp teeth as their eyes fixed on the boy with predatory focus.
The other three remained in human form, lingering at the sides.
The boy realised the danger the moment he saw the three wolves. His face went pale, his body going rigid with fear before he spun on his heel and tried to run back the way he’d come.
I had just burst in when the three other wolves who hadn’t shifted yet
materialized from the shadows near the entrance, cutting off his escape route. One of them shifted mid-stride, bones cracking and reforming until another beast stood between the boy and freedom. 𝐟𝚛𝕖𝚎𝕨𝗲𝐛𝚗𝐨𝐯𝐞𝕝.𝐜𝗼𝗺
He was trapped.
"What are you doing?!" I demanded, my voice sharp as I stopped not too far away from them.
Frustration and anger burned through my chest.
Everyone froze.
The boy’s head whipped toward me, his eyes wide with shock and confusion. The wolves turned as one, their attention shifting from their cornered prey to this unexpected interruption.
For a moment, no one moved.
Then one of the wolves in human form, a tall lanky man with an unkept beard, and cold eyes tilted his head, nostrils flaring as he scented the air.
"She smells strange," he said slowly, his gaze narrowing on me. "Are you an omega?"
Before I could respond, the other person cut in. "She is. Can’t you smell it on her. Faint, but it’s there." The man looked well dressed and kept, and from his stance he didn’t seem like a usual hooligan. His expression was also calculating. "Strange one, though. Not sure what breed of Omega this is."
One of the wolves at the back shifted back into his human form. "Wait." He stepped forward, pointing at me. "She’s got the inner district’s placard." His tone shifted, becoming uncertain. "What if she is someone important—"
"Don’t be ridiculous," the well-dressed man scoffed, his lip curling in disgust. "She’s an Omega. There are no Omegas from the inner district. She probably stole it from someone."
The immediate assumption that I was a thief ignited something hot and furious in my chest.
I could use my syzygy. Attack them the way I had attacked those three wolves while escaping. But I wondered if I could also use what I had learned in the settlement.
No, that would be unwise. Just because they didn’t seem trained did not mean I should underestimate them.
The unkempt man moved, wrapping his arm around the boy’s shoulders in a mockery of friendliness. The boy immediately cowered, his body going rigid with fear as the wolf pulled him close.
"Tell her, Aster," the man said, his voice falsely jovial as he looked at me. "Why the sad face? Aren’t you happy to see your friends?"
Aster?
They knew his name.
Horror crawled up my spine. This wasn’t random. They’d targeted him specifically, knew who he was, had probably been following him for who knows how long.
This was so much worse than I’d thought.
"This is ridiculous and you aren’t fooling anyone," I said, my voice steady despite the rage building up inside me. "You clearly don’t even look like friends."
I took a step forward, my eyes finding the boy’s frightened gaze.
"Why not come instead? I won’t let them touch you," I held out my hand to him, keeping my gaze keen on them.
The wolves’ expressions darkened immediately. The ones in wolf form shifted their stances, muscles bunching beneath fur, ready to spring. The air grew thick.
I glanced toward the alley entrance, hoping to spot a patrol, someone who could—
A sudden movement from the corner of my eyes caught me off guard.
One of the wolves lunged towards me, already in his wolf form. His jaws ripped open and within the blink of an eye, clamped down on my arm. I winced in pain at the teeth digging into my flesh. The stabbing pain flared up my arm and intensified as he jerked back, throwing me to the ground and dragging me deeper into the alley. I clenched my teeth, stifling my silent scream from the pain as he let go of my arm. The minute he released me, one of his paws pressed down hard on my chest, pinning me in place.
"Hold on, Ravier. She’s pretty," someone said, and the way they said it unpleasantly grated my ears. "It would be a shame to waste that."
Another voice came closer now, thick with suggestion. "Could have some fun first with her before we—"
"I don’t think we can do that here."
Terror locked my body in place for a split second. The implication was clear, and a nauseating feeling enveloped me.
"Wait. I smell the Supreme Alpha on her. She might actually—"
But I wasn’t listening anymore.
Fury raged through me and the wolf holding me down barely had time to register my movement before I lashed out, my hands locking onto his forelimbs. My syzygy surged, pooling through my body, and enhancing my physical strength until it felt like my blood was about to bubble out of every surface of my body.
I lifted all his mass and flipped him over my body with a strength that matched just how much rage I had.
He slammed into the ground with a sickening crack of bone against stone. The impact reverberated through the alley, and I heard the crush of multiple bones and flesh.
I did not care.
