My Fated Mate Can Have Her-Chapter 162: Hospitality
Violet
Something wet pressed against my lips and it felt so uncomfortable, as if someone was trying to put something into my mouth.
Wait...
My body jerked upright before my mind could catch up, and my eyes snapped open to an unfamiliar ceiling and a strange room. My heart lurched in my chest as panic slammed into me.
Where am I?
A sudden sound of something falling to the ground reached my ears with a sharp crack.
"Oh! Oh dear, I am so sorry! I didn’t mean—"
I looked at the owner of the voice.
A woman sat frozen in a chair right beside the bed I was apparently on. She had one hand raised, trembling, fingers wrapped around a wooden spoon. Her eyes were wide with fright, and her entire body was rigid like she was afraid to move.
My breath came in short, sharp gasps.
The woman slowly lowered the spoon, still shaking. "I am so sorry," she said again, her voice high and apologetic. "I didn’t mean to startle you. You just—you weren’t waking up, and I..."
I barely heard her.
My gaze swept the room, taking in details as I slowly tried to recall how I even got here. I was in a room. It looked like a modest bedroom.
There were windows that let in faint light. It looked like it was late in the evening. Furniture. A small table. A chair. A wardrobe in the corner that looked well-made and cared for...
This wasn’t the forest.
Last I remembered, I was... oh...
My eyes snapped back to the woman, really looking at her this time.
She looked older, greying hair was pulled back from a kind face that was currently pale with shock. Her blue eyes were wide as she remained stiff in her seat, still holding that spoon.
I went still as I sensed something.
This woman was an Omega.
There was a somewhat sweet taste in my mouth. I swallowed and touched my lips to feel a sticky texture.
There was a pool of white liquid mushy substancen on the floor along with a small wooden bowl that laid flat on the floor upside down.
Had she been feeding me? 𝑓𝑟𝑒𝘦𝓌𝑒𝑏𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝘭.𝒸𝘰𝑚
Before I could apologise for the mess I had caused, she immediately started talking.
"I really am so sorry! I shouldn’t have tried to feed you while you were still asleep, but your husband—the wolf who brought you said you hadn’t eaten in over a week and I just thought maybe if I could get some broth into you it might help and—"
"Wait." My voice came out as a rasp and I had to stop and clear my throat before trying again. "What wolf?"
The woman blinked, lowering her hands. "The... the one who brought you here? Your husband?"
I stared speechless.
My husband?
Did she mean Rowan?
"I—he—he is not my husband."
The woman’s eyes widened. "Oh! Oh, I’m so sorry, I didn’t mean to assume! It’s just—he seemed so worried when he carried you in, and the way he was talking, I just thought..."
She trailed off, clearly flustered now.
Why—why would she think that? Or was that something Rowan said?!
Oh, wait she said she made an assumption.
I sighed, briefly closing my eyes.
"Are you alright?" she asked, concern replacing the nervousness in her voice.
I opened my eyes and slowly looked at her, surprised.
"I..."
Was I alright?
I had a slight headache. My throat felt a bit rough, and my stomach felt like it was eating itself from the inside out.
But I felt strangely relaxed at the same time.
I think I was okay... somewhat.
I looked down at my hands and froze.
They were clean, and I was dressed in something else entirely. I pulled at the loose floral dress and shifted back until my back hit the wall.
I was dumbfounded.
"Did you..."
The woman nodded, seemingly oblivious to the edge in my voice. "Oh yes, dear. You were covered in dirt and sweat. I couldn’t very well put you in a clean bed like that, could I? Don’t worry, I was very gentle."
She said it so casually. Like it was the most natural thing in the world to wash a stranger who had been brought unconscious to your door.
I didn’t know how to feel about that.
I glanced at the mess on the floor, and felt even more guilty. "I am sorry about this." I tried to get up. "Let me—"
"Oh no!" she nearly shrieked and I flinched. "Please don’t apologize!" She shook her head and got up. I noticed a bit of the food on the hem of her dress. "It is not your fault. I shouldn’t have done that. But you were already swallowing some of the food and I thought you needed the strength—" She moved the chair aside and walked to the table.
When she turned around there was a wooden cup in her hand.
"Here, drink. I am sure you must be parched."
"Tha—thank you," I weakly muttered as I took the water from her and started drinking.
She had a cloth on her other hand and I nearly choked on the water as she bent down.
"Give me just a moment to clean this mess up."
I immediately moved to get off the bed. "No, let me—I made the mess, I should—"
"Absolutely not!" She held up a hand, stopping me. "You need to rest. You’ve been asleep for a full night and nearly a day!"
What...?
She continued wiping. "I don’t know how you both did it. You are simply amazing, and despite his state, he was still so full of energy. To not have eaten for over a week... I don’t think any normal wolf can actually even do that. That boy. The way he fussed over you so sweetly—" She paused and glanced at me. "Your mate perhaps?"
My eyes went wide and her expression softened.
"I am sorry. Please, I can be so nosy at times. I just tend to have eyes for things like that."
"It’s... it’s okay..." I whispered, my heart racing. "Where... is he?"
