Chapter 112: 113/The Emperor’s Execution

Chapter 113:

Robert’s Point of View

Everything around me was freezing, and I felt a coldness coursing through the tips of my fingers until all sensation vanished completely.

I stopped fucking her suddenly and withdrew with a body as rigid as stone. I began putting on my clothes with mechanical, swift movements, while Sarah watched me with eyes filled with confusion. She asked in a faint, trembling voice:

"Sir... is something wrong? Did I upset you in some way?"

I didn’t bother to look at her or respond; I buttoned my shirt and left the room with heavy strides. Midway, my gaze fell on Ron, who was gripping the arm of one of the guards tightly and pushing him violently. I asked with a deadly coldness:

"What is the matter, Ron?"

Ron replied, trying to calm me:

"Don’t trouble yourself with these matters, sir."

I fixed my sharp gaze on him and said in a tone that brooked no discussion:

"Ron!"

Ron sighed and answered:

"He stole money from the restaurant, Mr. Robert, but don’t worry... I will handle his punishment."

I said, my jaw muscles visibly tensing:

"I will do it."

Ron’s eyes widened in shock, and he took a step back, muttering:

"Will... will you do this yourself, sir?"

I answered him with one decisive word:

"Yes."

He tried to object with stuttering words:

"But..."

I cut him off with a look that silenced him immediately:

"What?"

He lowered his head and said submissively:

"Nothing, sir... as you wish."

I advanced with firm steps down the hallway, while Ron dragged that damn guard behind me.

We went down to the lower floor where the dark guardrooms were located; I felt my heartbeats accelerating not out of a desire for justice, but because I had finally found a living body upon which I could discharge all the anger and weakness Julie had caused.

-------+++++++-----

Julie’s Point of View

A cold shiver ran down my spine and my body stiffened completely when I glimpsed him passing in the corridor; it was my good fortune that his gaze was directed forward and he didn’t turn. Max whispered in a skeptical tone:

"Is Mr. Robert really here? Are you sure, Julie?"

I nodded my head violently, feeling as if my heart would stop:

"Yes... he is here, I saw him with my own eyes!"

A look of bewilderment appeared on Max’s face as he muttered:

"Mr. Robert never comes down to this floor... even when one of the guards makes a mistake, Ron takes care of his punishment."

My heartbeats accelerated further until I felt nauseous, and I said in a choked voice:

"Max... is he looking for me? Did he go to my room, not find me, and come here?"

I began pacing the small room back and forth in chaotic circular movements, my fingers interlocking from extreme tension, until Max stopped me by placing his hand on my shoulder:

"Julie... calm down."

Max moved toward the door and said:

"I will go out to check the situation."

I rushed toward him and leaned my back forcefully against the door, preventing him from opening it, and said to him with panic gleaming in my eyes:

"Listen, Max... I think our lives are in danger, Robert will find me here!"

Before he could utter a word, I felt the handle move and the door being pushed from the outside; my body was squeezed into the narrow corner right behind the door.

I closed my eyes tightly, holding my breath as if the sound of my inhalation might betray my location.

I heard a rough, familiar voice I realized immediately it was Ron saying:

"Come on... come to the gym, a thieving bastard is being punished!"

I watched Max through the small crack in the door; his body was stiff and his features tense as he answered briefly:

"Alright."

As soon as Ron’s footsteps faded, Max closed the door and I exhaled all the air trapped in my chest at once. Max said quickly:

"I have to go now... listen, wait here for a while, then go up to your room carefully."

I grabbed his arm and asked him in wonder:

"Why did he call you? What happened? Did he discover you are training me?"

He answered while preparing to leave:

"No, he didn’t... but as you heard, there is a thief, and we will be witnesses to how he is eliminated."

I raised my eyebrows in shock and bewilderment:

"What? Are we in the Middle Ages? Is the Emperor going to execute the criminal and summon the subjects to watch the execution?"

Max shook his head with a strange seriousness and said:

"Yes... it is exactly like that."

Max left and left me alone in the desolate silence of the room, trying to calm my scattered heartbeats and comprehend what was happening; the events of a single day had exceeded my mind’s ability to believe.

I waited for minutes that passed like hours, following Max’s advice with lethal caution.

I opened the door slowly, and the empty hallway met me with a desolate silence. I took my first step, but suddenly, Robert’s raspy voice shattered the stillness of the place, coming from the gym:

"I think this bastard’s salary isn’t enough for him, that’s why he reached out to steal!"

I didn’t feel my feet as they led me toward the source of the sound, driven by a poisoned curiosity.

I stood behind the partition wall, leaning my trembling shoulder against it, and began to peek with wide pupils. Robert, in his brown suit, was standing like a predatory peacock in the center, while the men lined up around him like stone statues, watching in a suspicious silence.

In the center, there was a massive man, with fair skin and brown hair, kneeling on his knees with black eyes filled with terror, and Ron standing over his head like the Angel of Death.

Robert said in a cold tone that froze the blood in my veins:

"Ron... bring me the tools."

My stomach muscles cramped; what tools was this psychopath talking about? Was he going to kill him in cold blood as he did with that red-haired guard?

I watched him as he took off his jacket coldly, then began rolling up the sleeves of his white shirt, like a surgeon preparing for a filthy operation.

Ron brought a large black bag that was hidden behind the gym equipment and opened it before his eyes.

I tried to crane my neck to see what was inside, but the shadows were obscuring the contents.

Robert reached out his hand steadily and pulled out a shiny metal plier. I wondered while panic gnawed at my chest:

"What is he going to do with it?"

Robert approached the kneeling man and whispered in a voice that made my skin crawl:

"No one can steal from me."

In the blink of an eye, two of the standing men rushed forward and grabbed the man’s arms with a force that paralyzed his movement.

The man began screaming shattered screams and desperate pleas:

"Sir... I’m sorry! I beg you, forgive me... I won’t do it again!"

A terrifying smile appeared on Robert’s lips, one that did not reach his cold eyes, and he said:

"I know you won’t do it again."

Then, with a swift and sickening movement, he grabbed his hand and applied the pliers with force... I heard the sound of bone shattering before the man’s piercing scream hit my ears.

I leaned my back against the wall immediately, feeling a sharp urge to vomit; my body could not bear to see more.

I heard a second scream, even more agonizing than the first, and I knew he had cut off another finger.

I didn’t think, I didn’t look back; I started running insanely toward the stairs, my heart almost jumping out of my chest, heading toward my room to hide from that monster who wears a human mask.

-------------------------

Robert’s Point of View

Seven fingers were lying on the ground like remnants of wreckage, but the fires in my chest had not yet been extinguished.

I looked at the guard whose eyes were fading and swaying toward darkness; I approached him and shook his head violently, saying coldly:

"Stay awake... today I am going to have a little fun with you."

I turned to Ron and extended my blood-stained hand:

"Give me the dagger."

Ron pulled out the shiny blade and placed it in my palm. I nodded my head toward the guard’s chest, so Ron tore his shirt and stripped him completely.

I began plunging the blade of the dagger into his skin slowly, drawing intersecting lines with precision; it was an "artistic painting" exploding with deep red color with every piercing scream that came from his shattered throat.

When I finished discharging my anger upon his body, I plunged the dagger deep into his neck to end his final gasps.

I raised my head to see the bewilderment frozen on the faces of the standing guards; it wasn’t the horror of the blood that shocked them, but seeing "Robert Cross" soiling his hands himself to punish scum like this.

I looked at Ron, who was watching me with a surprise he couldn’t hide, so I said to him as I tossed the dagger aside:

"My work is done."

I headed to my room, feeling the stickiness of the blood drying on my skin.

I stood under the hot water for a long time, washing away the remnants of last night from my body and trying to cleanse my mind of Julie’s ghost that never leaves me.

In the morning, I put on my formal suit and headed to the office.

I sat behind my massive desk and began reviewing the files I had handed to Julie yesterday. I felt a real surprise; her notes were precise, and her audits were flawless, as if I were dealing with an expert polished by years of work.

My admiration for her increased, and I felt a desire to see her immediately.

My train of thought was cut off by a quiet knock on the door.

Olivia entered with steady steps and said:

"Good morning, sir... I’m sorry I didn’t come yesterday, I was a bit sick and I sent a message to Ron to inform him."

I answered her without raising my eyes from the files:

"It’s alright, Olivia."

A silence prevailed for seconds before she continued in a tone shrouded in caution and seriousness:

"I want to tell you something important, Mr. Robert."

I raised my head and looked at her:

"Yes... what is it?"

She said with words that made my blood freeze in my veins:

"I think Julie is having a relationship of some kind with Marcus... Mr. Carlos’s nephew."
