My father sold me to the Mafia King-Chapter 91 - 92/The Beast and the Beauty
Chapter 92:
Robert’s Point of View
I left the office carrying the file under my arm; my mind was occupied with the company meeting, but the image of "Axel" sleeping in my room made me stop.
I headed there, and as soon as I opened the door, I found that he had woken up; he approached me, wagging his tail as usual, so I patted his back with light strokes and said:
"Come on, let’s go to your new friend."
He walked behind me in the hallway, his claws making a rhythmic sound on the marble floor until we reached Julie’s room.
I pushed the door open without preamble, finding her sitting behind her small desk. She jerked in her seat and looked at me sharply, saying:
"Can’t you ask for permission before entering?"
A devious smile formed on my lips, and I rested my body in a confident stance against the doorframe, saying:
"I don’t ask for permission to enter my own property, Julie."
Her features tightened, and she replied stubbornly:
"But it is my room now, and I am a girl... it’s not appropriate for you to enter like this."
I narrowed my eyes, examining her tension, and said:
"Your room is my property, so do not expect any permission from me."
Then I turned to Axel standing behind me and gestured with my head:
"Come in, go on."
She asked fearfully:
"Who are you talking to?"
As soon as Axel stepped in with his massive body, Julie froze in her seat, her pupils dilating with a terror she couldn’t hide.
She screamed in a trembling tone:
"Get this crazy dog out of my room!"
I closed the door behind me quietly and asked her while watching her body shrink:
"What? Do you have a phobia of dogs?"
She replied quickly, trying to regain her composure:
"No... I love dogs."
I raised an eyebrow mockingly:
"Then what’s the problem?"
She muttered as she pushed her chair back:
"His breed is not my favorite."
I took a step toward the bed and said in a calm voice:
"He is gentle, come here."
She stood up abruptly behind the desk as if taking cover in a fortress, and said firmly:
"No, I won’t come to him... get him out of here!"
I put my hand in my pocket and said coldly:
"I have work now and I cannot leave him alone; he will stay with you."
Her tongue went dry for a moment before she screamed crazily:
"You are insane!"
My gaze hardened, and the pitch of my voice dropped to a level that made the air in the room feel heavy:
"Watch your words, Julie."
She replied while pointing a trembling finger at Axel:
"I cannot stay with him."
I said coldly:
"Why? He likes you."
She let out a sarcastic laugh tinged with fear, and said while pressing herself against the wall:
"He likes me?! He tried to attack me!"
I said, watching Axel’s ears prick up with curiosity:
"He doesn’t attack anyone; in fact, he’s just an introvert."
She answered with a stiff body and a tone dripping with sarcasm:
"Yes, that’s perfectly clear."
I shifted my weight to one leg and said coldly:
"He truly never approaches people at all, except for me."
Her lower lip trembled as she replied:
"And what do you call what happened in your room this morning?"
I answered her with a provocative calmness:
"It was a hug."
Her green eyes widened in shock, and she said, gesturing with her hands in the air:
"A hug? Are you joking with me?"
I signaled for her to come forward:
"Come, move closer."
She began to drag her feet with slow, heavy steps, then froze in her place as if she had hit an invisible wall. I said to her sternly:
"Come on Julie, you are still in the same spot."
She approached with difficulty, her chest heaving with ragged breaths, and said:
"I am afraid he will attack me."
I answered her, fixing my gaze on her eyes:
"He won’t, and as long as I am here, nothing will happen to you."
She waved her hand with bitter irony:
"Are you the one who’s going to protect me from him?"
I nodded, confirming:
"Yes."
A low growl escaped her, and she said:
"You are worse than him."
I raised my eyebrow and my jaw tightened; I muttered to myself:
"This girl is truly going to make me lose my mind."
Then I asked her in a confident tone that made her cheeks burn:
"Then why were you burying your face in my chest, with your fingers digging into my shirt?"
Her movement became clumsy, and she started rubbing her palms together nervously:
"It was just a reaction."
I ignored her weak justification and pointed toward the dog, who was watching her silently:
"Now we will conduct a test to see if you two will get along... tell him to sit."
She looked at Axel with childish terror, and her voice came out weak, barely audible:
"Axel... sit."
I sighed with annoyance and said:
"For God’s sake, Julie, raise your voice a little."
She straightened her back, swallowed hard, and then shouted in a shaky but audible tone:
"Axel... sit!"
Axel sat immediately, and I couldn’t hide the surprise that showed on my features; this dog pays no attention to the orders of others.
I said in a proud tone:
"Look, he followed your command."
Her expression soured, and she answered with a body that was still stiff:
"That doesn’t mean he isn’t dangerous."
I took a step and said sternly:
"Fine, kneel on the floor and ask him to come to you."
She leaned back, pointing at him in terror:
"No! Look at him, he’s almost as tall as I am!"
I sighed in frustration:
"Come on Julie, we agreed to conduct the test."
She stared at me with eyes burning with protest:
"We didn’t agree... I am being forced."
With bitter resignation, her knees bent to sit on the floor in a defensive position.
I said to her:
"Go on, hold out your hand."
She jerked in opposition:
"What? I’m certainly not doing that!"
My patience ran out, so I looked at my watch and said firmly:
"Come on Julie, I don’t have all day, I have to go."
She extended her trembling hand very slowly, so I said:
"Ask him to come."
The words came from between her trembling lips:
"Come... Axel."
In the blink of an eye, Axel rushed toward her and pounced with his massive body on top of her, making Julie fall on her back, screaming and waving her hands desperately:
"He’s attacking me! Help me!"
I laughed lightly as I watched the scene and said:
"He’s not attacking you, he’s just playing with you."
Axel was nuzzling her face with his huge head and moving his paws around her with excessive friendliness.
She opened her eyes slowly, and the features of terror began to dissipate, replaced by a slight smile as she felt his nuzzling, and she muttered:
"Fine... he’s not attacking me."
I watched her unexpected harmony with him and said in wonder:
"Strange... he usually doesn’t listen to anyone’s orders."
I turned toward the door and placed my hand on the knob:
"I’m going now."
Her smile vanished instantly, paleness taking over her face again, and she said in a worried tone:
"Are you going to leave me with him when he doesn’t listen?!"
I didn’t answer; instead, I closed the door behind me quietly, leaving them together.
I was sure they would become friends, but against my will, I felt a prickle of anxiety gnawing at me from within, and my shoulder muscles tightened:
"What if he does something to her? What if he truly hurts her?"
