Chapter 738

Anton’s Dire Wolf was finally defeated when one of the higher elves, likely at the Archmage Rank, challenged it, but the forest elf's victory did not come easily. The battle lasted quite a while, and the elf’s clothes were ripped to shreds. The elf also sported many wounds, which were easily healed by one of the elven healers who accompanied them.

The higher-ranking forest elf did not hold back at all and truly destroyed Anton’s Dire Wolf. He was amused that the two leaders looked worried for a moment, thinking that Anton might get offended, but was gratified to see that he only had an amused expression.

Anton resummoned the Dire Wolf and asked if anyone else wanted to try combating it. The moment the Dire Wolf reappeared, all of the forest elves sighed, and the one who defeated it looked at the summon forlornly. Every elf there understood how powerful Anton’s summons were. Not only that, they could easily be summoned again if they were destroyed, and everyone knew that the archmage-level elf only succeeded because, first, Anton’s dire wolf had been through several combats with every elf who challenged it, not holding back at all. Second, the dire wolf did not receive support from its summoner, basically fighting alone.

Some of the elves there who considered themselves more powerful than the last combatant wanted to fight the Dire Wolf as well, but the one leading the group put his foot down, telling everyone they needed to return to the kingdom to report the situation to the King and Queen, since they wanted Anton safe.

“You all don’t need to worry. Once we’re back inside the kingdom, you can challenge my summons. We can even add different mechanics like fighting two at once or me supporting my summons, which would allow them to have increased strength or to heal automatically. You can even fight my other summons,” Anton assured everyone.

What Anton did not know was that his assurance only caused despair to some of the elves since they realized that, aside from Anton being able to automatically re-summon his summons that died, he could also buff his summons to have increased strength and to heal automatically.

The travel back to the kingdom resumed, and while Anton followed the elves while flying, Enoril asked him how many minions he summoned. Anton counted mentally. His summons were peculiarly different from the actual game. In the new Diablo II resurrection, the summon limit for the Druid was five ravens, five spirit wolves, three dire wolves, and one grizzly bear. Anton could actually summon more. He could summon six ravens, six spirit wolves, six dire wolves, and one dire bear. He wondered why his system chose the number six, except for the obvious summons that he could only summon one of them.

Anton knew that his Necromancer skills would allow him to summon infinitely more minions, but the fact that he needed a corpse to summon the skeletons prevented him from using the Necromancer spells. He also did not know how others would treat him if they learned that Anton could summon the undead. He knew that historically, the Necromancer was not that taboo a class, but because of the attack of the Undead Coalition, those who consort with the dead were not being frowned upon.

It was late in the afternoon when they reached the kingdom, and thankfully, after meeting with the king and queen to report what happened inside the dungeon, he was given the rest of the day to unwind and would start watching the Hobbit movies the next day. They did not even ask Anton to show them the dungeon core, even though it came from a rare, powerful new dungeon. Leldorin confirmed that his dungeon core was not even in the top 100 rarest dungeon cores that the forest elves had. With their millennia of history, they basically accumulated untold numbers of dungeon cores.

Once Anton left the palace, a few elves approached him, interested in testing out his summons in battle. Anton just laughed and followed them to their arena. While they were walking, he told the forest elves the options that they could choose. He told them the different types of summons he could summon and the number of summons he could summon for them to fight. He also required them to have powerful healers in attendance to make sure none would be accidentally killed.

By the time they reached the arena, there were more than fifty elves who joined them. Apparently, a lot of the combatants wanted to test their mettle against the summons of a powerful Supreme Rank wizard.

Before any battle started, the elves actually talked to each other regarding the options that Anton gave them. When the first challenges approached him, Anton was surprised that it was four young forest elves against six of his ravens. Anton saw that the elves were low-level, around level four or five wizard-level rank, and advised them that his summons were powerful, including the ravens.

One of the young elves sniffed and said that it was just birds; how powerful could they be? Anton did not get offended since he knew from experience how hot-headed a teenager could be. He was even considered one, and he could also be hot-headed, especially in the middle of a battle against the undead.

It was already evening by the time the four young elves went to the middle of the arena. Anton just sighed and summoned his ravens. When the acting referee sent his signal for the battle to start, he told his ravens to attack the four elves.

As Anton expected, not even half a minute before, the four elves were defeated by his ravens. Anton’s ravens could tear through magic shields, and the summons’ defenses were powerful enough to ignore some of the spells from the young forest elves that managed to reach them. Most of the attacks missed since the ravens were incredibly agile. Anton also commanded the ravens not hold back. His ravens dismembered two of the young forest elves and blinded one of them. The other one was easily dispatched and fell during the first attack.

The healers, at least, were powerful enough to regenerate the young elves’ limbs and to grow the eye of the one who was blinded. Anton felt guilty when he saw the four young forest elves looking traumatized, but Leldorin assured him that forest elves experience things like that inside the forest all the time and that it would be a good idea for young elves to experience something like what just happened earlier so they could learn how to cope. At least they were in a safe place, able to receive immediate healing, unlike some who encountered such experiences outside, far from help.

Anton also saw that instead of the elves getting afraid, they looked more motivated to fight, but Leldorin loudly announced that Anton needed to rest since he had just been inside a high-level dungeon. Anton would have stayed since he did not feel tired, but just followed along with whatever Leldorin said.

After that, they brought him to eat dinner and then escorted him to his guest house to rest. Since he was not sleepy yet, Anton decided to spend several hours leveling up his Diablo II ladder character. When he got too tired of leveling up his character, he spent a few hours binge-watching The Big Bang Theory episodes until he fell asleep.
