My First Love Died, Now My Step Uncle Wants Me-Chapter 103: Even Outside, You’re Still Mine
Caleb Rhodes saw she had gone silent again and knew she was thinking about the past.
He took her hand and strode outside. "Let’s go shopping."
As if they knew a VIP was arriving, several top luxury brands had closed their doors to the public.
The staff were all extremely professional. They never even spoke loudly and remained deferential the entire time. 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝒆𝒘𝙚𝓫𝙣𝙤𝒗𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢
In no time, they had picked out a great deal of jewelry and clothing. Nina Wynn felt her heart clench as she saw the numbers on the price tags.
In such a short time, they had spent a sum approaching eight figures.
’Rich people’s money really is just paper!’
In truth, Caleb Rhodes had picked out most of the items, and they were all girlish styles without exception.
Anything he thought suited Nina Wynn, or anything she so much as glanced at for a second, was bought.
After a short while of shopping, Caleb Rhodes noticed Nina Wynn didn’t seem to have much energy and looked a bit tired, so he carried her to the lounge area.
Moments later, someone delivered desserts and warm milk.
Caleb Rhodes pushed the dessert in front of her and ruffled her hair. "It might not be as good as what we have at home, but make do and have a little. If you’re tired, we’ll go home in a bit."
It was a beautiful little ice cream cake, drizzled with a shimmering golden syrup. Next to the cake was the printed word ’Landon’.
Nina Wynn had seen this kind of cake in large department stores before.
Back then, Evan Chapman had told her it was a cake from the famous Landon Group private patisserie in Elysian City. They were notoriously difficult to order, and even a week’s advance notice wasn’t always enough.
He had said that when he had money someday, he would buy her cakes like this to eat.
Nina Wynn silently stared at the cake for a moment before picking up a small spoon, scooping a little, and putting it in her mouth.
A rich, milky flavor filled her mouth. It was delicate and soft—truly delicious.
’But... it seems the texture is still a little bit off compared to the ones at home.’
Nina Wynn thought of the pastries at home. They didn’t look as beautiful as this one, but their texture was indeed a bit more complex.
Even so, she still found it delicious. She scooped up a large piece and offered it to Caleb Rhodes. "Uncle, you try some."
Caleb Rhodes glanced at the cake but didn’t take it.
Instead, he lowered his head and gently bit her lip, whispering, "I want to eat this!"
Nina Wynn’s face instantly turned red. She quickly glanced at the door and, seeing no one was coming in, let out a sigh of relief.
She whispered, "Uncle, we’re in public."
Caleb Rhodes held her head and kissed her again, his voice cold and deep. "So what if we’re in public? You’re still my woman out here!"
Seeing that no one was around, Nina Wynn relaxed and began to slowly eat her cake.
Caleb Rhodes saw how much she seemed to be enjoying it and asked, "Do you like it? Is it good?"
Nina Wynn nodded lightly. "It’s not as good as the ones at home, but this one is drizzled with osmanthus-flavored syrup."
Watching her eat so happily, Caleb Rhodes felt as if the bottomless pit in his heart had been filled in just a little.
This cake, of course, couldn’t compare to the ones at home.
The pastries Nina Wynn ate every day were flown in that same day. The pastry chef who made them was the most famous master in all of Gaulia.
The ones from Landon Group were good, but they couldn’t compare.
Not only that, but all her snacks were also meticulously selected. He was afraid that if she didn’t eat well, the little bit of weight he had worked so hard to put on her would disappear again.
After watching her for a while, Caleb Rhodes’s phone rang. He stood up and said to Nina Wynn, "I’m going to step outside to take this call. You sit here for a bit."
With that, he left the lounge.
The moment he was gone, Nina Wynn pushed the cake aside.
Just as she stood up, a familiar voice came from the doorway.
"It’s true that some people are just born luckier than others. Why don’t I have an uncle who can clear out a luxury store for me to pick out gifts?"
Nina Wynn’s expression changed instantly. The voice belonged to Ivy Lawson.
’She’s here too? Is Crystal coming as well?’
Just then, another voice chimed in: "Yeah, Crystal Rhodes is so lucky. With an uncle like that looking out for her, she can buy whatever she wants. She’s coming to pick out a gift in a little bit, and her uncle actually cleared out this many stores for her!"
Nina Wynn recognized this voice too. It was Jenny Collins, the daughter of the Rhodes Family’s maid, Nanny Collins.
"Her credit cards were cut off a few days ago, but she just had to whine a little and she got them back. Then she turned right around and bought a car worth over seven million. It’s gorgeous."
"Ivy, no matter how good she has it, it’s nothing compared to you. Master Weston is about to get engaged to you! Once you marry in, you’ll be a young mistress of the Rhodes Family. No matter how powerful Crystal gets, she’ll have to marry out someday. How can she compare to you?"
"I heard from my mom that the Third Lord Master gave him the big project in Aethelburg. It’s a project worth tens of billions! Master Weston is about to take off. You just wait and enjoy the good life!"
"Alright, that’s enough. Crystal will be here soon. She’ll be upset if she hears you talking like that! Okay, you go in and wait for me. I’m going to the restroom."
"Okay!"
After listening to their conversation, Nina Wynn’s eyes narrowed, a cold glint within them.
Soon enough, Jenny Collins walked in.
This was the VIP lounge, and Nina Wynn was the only one inside. Jenny Collins spotted her at once.
Her eyes burned with an unconcealable, wild jealousy, and her expression turned extremely sour.
The fact that Nina Wynn had been adopted by Caleb Rhodes was known by everyone in the Rhodes Family, high and low. It had made all the servants sick with envy.
This was especially true for Jenny Collins. When she heard the news, she was so jealous that she couldn’t sleep properly for days and nights.
’On what grounds could a lowly bitch like Nina Wynn—a fatherless, motherless wretch she had bullied since childhood—be adopted by Caleb Rhodes?’
’To receive Caleb Rhodes’s favor was truly a case of a sparrow turning into a phoenix!’
She looked at the fine quality of Nina Wynn’s clothes and was about to go mad with jealousy.
’She didn’t even have to think about it; those clothes were definitely top designer brands.’
’Especially the light green, floral diamond bracelet on Nina Wynn’s wrist. It was a new release from Brand C, worth nearly a million, and even Crystal Rhodes hadn’t been able to get one yet.’
Seeing Jenny Collins’s volatile expression, Nina Wynn smoothed her small handbag and smiled at her. "Jenny, it’s been a long time."
Jenny Collins had been bullying Nina Wynn alongside Crystal Rhodes since they were children. She had expected Nina to retaliate, but she hadn’t anticipated this pleasant and friendly demeanor.
For a moment, she had no idea what Nina Wynn was planning. She could only stand frozen in place, forcing a smile that was uglier than a crying face. "Yes, long time no see!"
Nina Wynn stepped forward and sized Jenny Collins up for a moment before speaking. "Jenny, that outfit must be one of Crystal’s hand-me-downs that you had altered, right? It’s pretty, but it just doesn’t seem to fit you properly."
Jenny Collins’s face flushed red and pale. She gritted her teeth. "Nina Wynn, if you want revenge, just say so."
Nina Wynn shook her head and said in a low voice, "Jenny, you’ve misunderstood. I don’t want revenge. Everything that happened in the past, it was never your idea. It was Crystal’s. Every injustice has its perpetrator, and I won’t blame you."
Jenny Collins asked, "Then what do you want?"
Nina Wynn let out a soft laugh, a cold light flashing in her eyes. "Jenny, look at me now. This outfit, nearly a million. This handbag, over two hundred thousand. This bracelet, almost a million. This life... it’s pretty comfortable, isn’t it? Being a master of the Rhodes Family is quite different from being a servant!"
Jenny Collins stood frozen, speechless.
Nina Wynn continued, "I heard what you and Ivy Lawson were saying just now. Jenny, you’ve had a crush on Weston since you were little. Haven’t you ever thought about marrying him yourself?"
Jenny Collins jumped in fright. She frantically glanced behind her, and only relaxed after seeing no one was there. "Nina Wynn, are you crazy! Master Weston is about to marry Ivy Lawson, don’t talk nonsense! I don’t have those kinds of feelings for him!"
Nina Wynn sneered inwardly, but her voice remained soft and gentle. "I’m just reminding you. They aren’t married yet, and Master Weston doesn’t even like Ivy Lawson. He mentioned to me before that he has a good impression of you!"
She paused before continuing, "But what a pity, you don’t like Master Weston. Otherwise, I would have a way to help you two get together. Actually, it doesn’t matter if he gets married or not. As long as you can be with him and give him a son, would you still have to worry about your future? By then, you certainly wouldn’t be picking up Crystal’s old designer hand-me-downs anymore."
Jenny Collins seemed entranced by her words. A clear struggle appeared in her eyes as she asked hesitantly, "Did he really say he has a good impression of me?"
A cold gleam flashed in Nina Wynn’s eyes as she whispered, "You know I have a terrible relationship with Crystal and Ivy Lawson. I’m actually looking for an ally. So, why would I lie?"
As she spoke, she took the bracelet from her own wrist, pulled Jenny Collins’s hand toward her, and slowly fastened it on her.
"Jenny, this is a gift to invite you to be my ally. What do you think? Is it worth more than everything Crystal has given you over all these years? As long as you succeed, you can have as many bracelets like this as you want!"
The perfectly cut, high-purity diamonds shimmered with a dazzling brilliance under the lights. No woman could resist their elegant yet playful color.
Jenny Collins was, of course, utterly mesmerized. She didn’t refuse Nina Wynn, but instead clutched the bracelet.
Nina Wynn lowered her eyelids and said softly, "Then I wish you the best of luck, Jenny!"
Without another word, she walked straight out of the lounge without looking back.
Just as she reached the corner, she ran right into Caleb Rhodes.
Nina Wynn quickened her pace, diving into his arms and wrapping her arms tightly around his waist.
