My First Love Died, Now My Step Uncle Wants Me-Chapter 108: Hard to Bear
As the butler went to deliver the milk, he had just reached for the doorknob when he heard a strange sound.
The door wasn’t fully closed, leaving the scene inside in plain view.
Nina Wynn was tossed about on Caleb Rhodes’s body like a small boat on a rough sea. Her slender neck was arched back, and she looked to be in pain, as if she could barely endure it.
Faint whimpers, pleas for mercy, and low gasps filled the space, creating an intimacy so intense it was startling.
The butler’s usually expressionless face finally twitched. He shook his head, sighed softly, and quietly closed the door.
An unknown amount of time later, Caleb Rhodes wrapped Nina Wynn in his own clothes and carried her back to the bedroom.
’He’d lost control again, after all. He’d gone too far.’
The last time the female doctor came, she had kept shaking her head, frowning as she said, "I told you to be careful. Why has this happened again?"
She looked at Caleb Rhodes with a stern expression. "A young couple needs to have some restraint in these matters. Her body is so weak; you must control yourself. If this continues, won’t she be in agony every single day?"
Caleb Rhodes’s face was cold and grim. He only said, "I’ll be more careful in the future," and then fell silent.
The doctor left some ointment and departed.
When Caleb Rhodes tried to apply the ointment on Nina Wynn, she resisted, seeming to grow fearful again.
But this time, Caleb Rhodes was domineering and wouldn’t allow her to refuse, forcibly applying the medicine.
Seeing the terribly red and swollen areas and the marks on her body where his sucking had broken the skin, Caleb Rhodes felt a pang of regret.
But mixed in with this regret was a sense that it was only natural.
’She had to get used to him as soon as possible. He didn’t have the patience to let her hide from him every day.’
After applying the ointment, he coaxed Nina Wynn into drinking her medicine and some milk. Once she was asleep, Caleb Rhodes went to the study.
Not long after he went in, the butler arrived. "Master Fletcher and Miss Landon have come to visit."
Caleb Rhodes frowned. Before he could speak, Nathan Fletcher walked in, with Noelle Landon standing beside him.
The moment Noelle Landon saw Caleb Rhodes, she felt as if she were facing an arch-nemesis.
The two times she had managed to escape, Caleb Rhodes had been the one to tip someone off and get her caught. So, the mere sight of him made her furious.
She snapped, "Rhodes, where’s my Nina?"
Caleb Rhodes didn’t even glance at her, starting a conversation directly with Nathan Fletcher.
The butler led Noelle Landon to the room where Nina Wynn was resting.
Upon entering, she was first stunned to see that Nina Wynn was staying in the master bedroom. Then, when she saw the intimate marks all over Nina’s body, she understood everything.
Her eyes couldn’t help but redden. "Nina, did he force you?"
Nina Wynn had been tormented to the point where her whole body felt like it was about to fall apart. Having had no rest all night, her complexion was naturally terrible, and she looked pale and weak.
She shook her head. "I was willing."
Noelle Landon didn’t believe her at all. She said angrily, "I’ve never met anyone more twisted than him! He keeps you cooped up here, won’t let you contact your friends, and even controls when you can use your phone. His need for control is way too strong!"
She paused, then said with some concern, "Do you know what people outside are saying? They’re saying Master Rhodes is keeping a little canary in a gilded cage—a sickly thing he dotes on so much he’d rip his own heart out for her. They’re saying the eldest daughter of the Lowell family is about to lose his favor."
Nina Wynn remained silent. After a long moment, she said, "I can’t control what people outside say."
Noelle Landon said, "I’ve been with Nathan Fletcher for a while now, so I know a few things. Rosalind Lowell isn’t as fragile and helpless as she appears. She’s not someone to be trifled with."
"The Lowell family may not be what it once was, but they’re still very powerful. Behind her is the entire Lowell family. And you... you have nothing. Nina, you’re no match for her."
Nina Wynn lowered her gaze and was silent for a long time before she slowly said, "I never intended to take anything from her. Once I’ve finished what I need to do, I’ll leave."
Noelle Landon asked worriedly, "Do you think Caleb Rhodes will let you go?"
Nina Wynn said slowly, "He will. Once he’s had his fun, he’ll naturally move on. Rosalind Lowell and he are a match made in heaven. They’ll get married."
As she said this, Nina Wynn felt her heart clench. A heavy, uncomfortable feeling settled in her chest.
She continued as if talking to herself, "Right now, he’s just intrigued by the novelty, curious. After a while, he’ll let go."
Seeing her distraught expression, Noelle Landon shook her head and said in a low voice, "No matter what, you have to be careful of Rosalind Lowell. Right now, she still thinks Caleb Rhodes just took you in out of pity, so she hasn’t become too wary of you. If she finds out the truth, there’s no telling what she might do."
She grabbed Nina Wynn’s hand. "Nina, I’m so worried about you. Why don’t you just leave? I’ll find a chance to get you out of here. Nina, you don’t have to go this far for Evan Chapman!"
Nina Wynn shook her head, her expression exceptionally firm. "No. I won’t let anyone who bullied Evan Chapman get away with it. Not a single one!"
Seeing her like this, Noelle Landon knew she couldn’t persuade her. She sighed, "What a tragic fate. If Caleb Rhodes finds out you’re using him to get revenge for Evan Chapman, I don’t know what will happen. I’m afraid he’ll kill you!"
A dim light flickered in Nina Wynn’s eyes before she lowered her gaze and said softly, "Whatever. I don’t care. As long as I can get my revenge, it doesn’t matter if he kills me."
After she spoke, they both fell silent.
After a long time, Nina Wynn finally said, "Noelle, please help me take care of Hugh Chapman. I’m afraid I won’t be able to look after him anymore."
Noelle Landon said, "I’ll do my best."
Nina Wynn seemed to remember something and looked at Noelle Landon. "What’s really going on between you and Nathan Fletcher?"
A strange look flickered across Noelle Landon’s face. She shook her head. "It’s nothing. I just owe him a lot of money, and it just so happens he’s a little interested in me."
She added with self-mockery, "Paying him back with my body."
Nina Wynn was silent for a moment, then asked softly, "How much do you owe him?"
Noelle Landon said, "A lot. More than you can possibly imagine! Nina, I’m a bit better off than you. At least Nathan Fletcher remembers that my mom looked after him when he was a kid, so he won’t be too cruel to me. But you’re different. That Caleb Rhodes seems calm and steady, but he’s actually moody and unpredictable. His methods are ruthless. I heard he’s sent a lot of people to prison recently..."
As they were speaking, Warner Zimmerman came and knocked on the door. "Miss Landon, your time is up. Miss Wynn needs to rest!"
Noelle Landon flew into a rage. "What do you mean, ’time is up’? We’re friends! Do we need a time limit just to chat? Is Nina a prisoner that you have to control her like this?"
Warner Zimmerman said with a deadpan expression, "Miss Landon, the Third Lord Master said that if you refuse to leave, you will be thrown out."
Noelle Landon’s face flushed with anger. Just as she was about to curse someone out, Nina Wynn said to Warner Zimmerman, "Miss Zimmerman, please just let my friend and I talk a little longer. I’m sorry to trouble you."
Warner Zimmerman remained expressionless. "The Third Lord Master gave specific orders. Miss Landon cannot stay with you for too long. He said she would be a bad influence on you and must leave immediately!"
Noelle Landon exploded with rage at this. She said to Nina Wynn, "Nina, do you see? He’s treating you like a prisoner! That bastard! Just watch me go give him a piece of my mind!"
With that, she ran out like the wind.
In the study, Nathan Fletcher felt that something was very off about Caleb Rhodes.
