My First Love Died, Now My Step Uncle Wants Me-Chapter 113: Weapon of Seduction
A flash of disgust crossed Rosalind Lowell’s eyes.
’A worthless orphan, and she dares to live in this house?’
’Does she really think she’s the master of the Rhodes Family?’
She stepped forward and kicked Nina Wynn, but got no reaction.
Annoyed, Rosalind Lowell kicked her again, twice, much harder this time.
Still no reaction.
The room was unnervingly quiet.
Rosalind Lowell’s eyes glinted. Using the light from her phone, she crouched down to look at Nina Wynn’s face.
She saw a face so exquisite it would make any woman jealous.
Rosalind Lowell’s gaze instantly turned cold.
She had actually seen Nina Wynn once or twice before, but Nina had been too young back then, and her origins so lowly, that she’d left almost no impression. That’s why Rosalind hadn’t recognized her when she first saw her a few days ago.
At the time, she only thought the girl had grown up to be quite pretty. But she never expected that upon closer inspection today, this face was clearly a weapon for seducing men.
’This skin... so fair and delicate. Something I could never buy, no matter how much money I spent!’
’And this jet-black hair... the volume and quality are so good it makes me want to shave her bald!’
She reached out and touched Nina Wynn’s face, her hand coming away wet.
Only then did she realize Nina Wynn’s clothes seemed to be damp.
But it was the middle of winter. No matter how much Caleb Rhodes disliked her, he wouldn’t just leave her in here in wet clothes, passed out.
This was clearly sweat!
Her eyes flickered, and she quickly checked Nina Wynn’s condition.
When she got to her hands, she saw that Nina Wynn’s little finger was swollen to the size of an egg, shiny and translucent.
She said nothing, staring at Nina Wynn’s finger for a long moment.
After a while, her gaze returned to Nina Wynn’s face.
Those delicate features filled her with disgust. She patted Nina Wynn’s cheek and whispered, "What’s the use of being so beautiful? You’re still just a worthless life!"
Just then, Nina Wynn’s eyelashes fluttered, and her eyes opened slightly.
Before she could see who it was, Rosalind Lowell turned off her phone’s light.
She stood up, kicked Nina Wynn, and lowered her voice. "Your uncle said admitting you were wrong is useless. Just stay in here and reflect on what you’ve done. The person he likes is here, and he’s going out with her soon. You’re staying here tonight."
Nina Wynn didn’t move, closing her eyes again.
So much time had passed that she’d gone numb. The pain seemed to have subsided, but she had no strength left in her body.
’It doesn’t matter who it is.’
’Everyone in this house belongs to Caleb Rhodes anyway.’
’If Caleb Rhodes let her in, then what she said must be true.’
’But... the person Caleb Rhodes likes is here. Is it Rosalind Lowell?’
She thought about it for a moment but felt too exhausted to continue. She just lay there on the floor with her eyes closed, completely still.
Like a small, lifeless young animal.
Suddenly, in the darkness, Rosalind Lowell stomped on her injured hand and twisted her foot viciously.
Nina Wynn’s body convulsed, and she passed out from the pain.
Watching her body tremble, Rosalind Lowell slowly curled her lips into a smirk.
After a moment, Rosalind Lowell smoothed her hair and walked out.
Before she even reached the dining table, Caleb Rhodes’s gaze fell on her.
At the same time, his eyes lingered for a second on the space behind her. When he saw it was empty, his already cold eyes grew even darker.
Rosalind Lowell’s eyes were still red-rimmed. She spoke in a soft, fragile voice, "I’m sorry, Caleb. The girl is a bit stubborn. No matter what I said to her, she just ignored me."
She bit her lip, her voice taking on a tearful tone. "Does she hate me that much? All I did was tell her to behave, but I didn’t think she’d resent me so much. She even bit me before I left."
As she spoke, she pushed up her sleeve, revealing a bite mark on her wrist.
A small, red ring of teeth marks. The skin was broken, and the bite looked quite deep.
The chill in Caleb Rhodes’s eyes became even more pronounced.
’That is indeed something Nina Wynn would do!’
He said coldly, "Warner Zimmerman, she is not to come out today!"
Warner Zimmerman said nothing and turned to go to the kitchen.
A moment later, she emerged from the kitchen carrying a new dish.
Longjing shrimp!
Her expression was still impassive. "The shrimp stir-fried with green tea is quite good today. Miss Lowell, you should have some more."
Rosalind Lowell’s expression changed. Her eyes red, she started to cry softly. "Caleb, my hand hurts. Please take me to the hospital."
Her gentle, soft voice perfectly conveyed a sense of having been deeply wronged.
Caleb Rhodes’s face darkened as well. He shot a cold glare at Warner Zimmerman. "Warner Zimmerman, your year-end bonus is docked. You’d better reflect on your recent performance!"
Warner Zimmerman remained expressionless, not even twitching an eyelid.
Rosalind Lowell stood up, her nose red from crying, looking completely innocent. "Please take me to the hospital, Caleb. A human bite hurts, too."
A flicker of emotion crossed Caleb Rhodes’s eyes. He stood, grabbed his jacket, and left with Rosalind Lowell.
As soon as they were gone, Warner Zimmerman went to the door of the room.
She knocked on the door and said in a low voice, "Miss Wynn, the Third Lord Master is out now. Would you like something to eat?"
There was no response.
She spoke again. "If you get hungry, just knock, and I’ll bring something in for you."
Still no response.
Warner Zimmerman sighed and said quietly, "The Third Lord Master’s temper is just like that. If you just go along with him a little and aren’t so stubborn, you might suffer less."
Still, there was no response.
Warner Zimmerman shook her head, stood at the door for a moment, and then walked away.
Having been around Nina Wynn for so long, she had come to understand some of her temperament.
The girl was far more stubborn than one would think. When provoked, she would fall silent, and she would even bite.
’Locked in the dark room today, she’s probably even more furious. It’s normal that she won’t calm down right away.’
She went outside, brought back in the large bunch of sunflowers and irises that had been placed out earlier, and arranged them.
She was especially careful when handling the irises, as if she cherished them dearly.
After that, she wheeled out an air purifier and ran it. While she was at it, she threw away the cup and utensils Rosalind Lowell had just used.
Caleb Rhodes didn’t return until evening.
He seemed to have been drinking; a faint scent of alcohol clung to him.
The moment he walked in, he tossed his jacket onto the sofa and headed for the small room where Nina Wynn was confined.
Although his expression was as cold and grim as ever, Warner Zimmerman could tell that Caleb Rhodes had likely drunk a lot, as his steps were slightly unsteady.
Just as she was about to follow, Willson Lawson came in and grabbed her arm.
Shaking his head, he whispered, "Don’t go looking for trouble. At the bar just now, the owner tried to curry favor with the Third Lord Master and sent over a few young girls to drink with him. One of them looked a bit like Miss Wynn, and the Third Lord Master completely lost it. That bar is probably going to be shut down."
Warner Zimmerman could only stand rooted to the spot.
Caleb Rhodes reached the door in a few strides. His gaze was heavy, and his eyes seemed to be bloodshot.
He stared at the door, unmoving, as if he could burn a hole through it with his gaze alone.
After a moment, he raised his hand as if to pound on the door, but in the end, he slowly let it fall.
’Nina Wynn, is it so hard to just bow your head?’
After a little while, Warner Zimmerman approached.
As soon as she arrived, she saw Caleb Rhodes leaning against the doorframe, his eyes seemingly red. He was chain-smoking furiously, and several cigarette butts already littered the lid of the nearby trash can.
She said in a low voice, "Third Lord Master, Miss Wynn hasn’t eaten or drunk anything all day. She’s in poor health, and she was injured this morning. Even if you want to punish her, you have to let her eat something. What if she faints in there..."
Caleb Rhodes’s expression changed. He threw down the cigarette in his hand and said coldly, "Then go in and check on her. Get her something to eat, and make sure she takes her medicine."
Warner Zimmerman breathed a sigh of relief and quickly opened the door.
A moment later, Warner Zimmerman’s voice came from inside, tinged with panic. "Miss Wynn! Miss Wynn!"
"Third Lord Master, come quickly! Something’s wrong with Miss Wynn!"
