My First Love Died, Now My Step Uncle Wants Me-Chapter 127: Pain and Pleasure
A flood of memories washed over her, making Nina Wynn’s head pound and her stomach churn violently.
She vomited violently, throwing up everything she had just eaten, until only yellow bile came out.
She had locked the door from the inside when she went in. Caleb Rhodes knocked from the outside, "Nina?"
Nina Wynn glanced back at the door, then stood up and quickly tidied herself up.
By the time she came out, she had regained her composure, but her face was terrifyingly pale.
Caleb Rhodes’s brow furrowed. "Did what you ate earlier not agree with you?"
Nina Wynn shook her head, avoiding his outstretched hand as she slowly lay down on the sofa.
She was a little tired and just wanted to get some proper sleep.
Caleb Rhodes watched her frail, thin back and said in a mild voice, "Rosalind Lowell and I are just friends."
He never explained himself, so this was a first.
But Nina Wynn didn’t seem to react to his words at all.
’He’s lying!’ That was the basic conclusion she had already reached.
Having spent all these years with the Rhodes Family, she knew that for men in their circle, keeping a mistress on the side was no big deal at all.
There were even absurd cases where the wife would help clean up the messes caused by the husband’s various mistresses.
But just because other people could accept it didn’t mean she could!
Her own mother had been driven to her death by a mistress. She would never, ever allow herself to become one!
’Besides, you only marry once. He wants to get married abroad and then get married again back home. He’s no different from those other men!’
These thoughts made her feel even sicker.
She said in a low voice, "Uncle, I’m a little tired. I want to sleep. They’re still waiting for you upstairs, so you don’t need to worry about me."
With that, she lay down on the sofa, still fully clothed, her back turned to Caleb Rhodes.
Caleb Rhodes frowned, felt her forehead with his hand, and then picked her up and carried her toward the bedroom.
"If you’re going to sleep, sleep in the bed. What kind of way is this, lying on the sofa?"
Nina Wynn didn’t speak or move, letting him carry her into the bedroom.
The presidential suite was huge, and the bed was massive and exceptionally soft.
The sheets and their pattern were both styles that Nina Wynn liked.
A white jade vase on the bedside table was filled with a large bouquet of white roses, at once pure and exquisite. A hanging chair sat before the enormous floor-to-ceiling window, piled with the snacks and magazines Nina Wynn usually enjoyed.
Nina Wynn didn’t even glance at any of it, only saying softly, "Uncle, I want to sleep. You can go. You don’t need to worry about me."
After a pause, she added, "I won’t go out. You don’t need to have someone watch the door."
With that, she pulled the covers up and turned her face away.
Caleb Rhodes assumed she was upset from hearing the nonsense those people upstairs were spouting and was bottling it all up.
His brows knitted in a barely perceptible frown. "Do you want some porridge?"
Nina Wynn closed her eyes and said softly, "Uncle, I’m very tired. I want to sleep."
Caleb Rhodes knew she was being stubborn again, and it wouldn’t be resolved anytime soon.
But he was a man of few words and almost never explained himself. Even now, knowing she had misunderstood something, he had no intention of explaining it right away.
He calmly pulled the blanket up for her and said coolly, "Sleep first. Get up and eat something after you’ve rested."
With that, he got up and left.
In the private room upstairs, not a single person in the crowd dared to leave. They were all still waiting nervously for Caleb Rhodes.
The ones who had been joking earlier were especially on edge, their expressions shifting uneasily, completely clueless as to how they had offended the Crown Prince.
This massive investment project involved many sub-projects.
The urban redevelopment involved was just the most basic, initial phase. Later on, there would be even larger follow-up investments and public welfare projects—all of them major undertakings. If they were kicked out now, all their preliminary efforts would be for nothing.
The moment Caleb Rhodes walked in, all eyes focused on him.
But he seemed not to notice, walking straight to his seat and sitting down.
He didn’t speak, so naturally, no one else dared to either. They all watched him nervously.
He slowly twisted the ring on his finger, his voice exceptionally faint. "Greene Group, Aurelia Capital, Bosch Group. These three companies will no longer participate in the latter stages of the project. Pick three from the companies that were initially rejected to take their place."
With a single, soft-spoken sentence, without even lifting his eyelids, he had cut off the lifeline of three companies.
The others breathed a sigh of relief, but the heads of those three companies turned pale.
"President Rhodes, why?"
Caleb Rhodes said flatly, "I don’t like working with people who talk too much."
The man wanted to say more, but he only heard Caleb Rhodes’s cold voice, "If anyone spreads rumors about me and the Lowell Family again, they will no longer be involved in any investments under the Nash Group."
The room fell silent. No one dared to make a sound.
Although the representatives from the three companies still wanted to say something, they were held back firmly by the others.
After a brief silence, the atmosphere in the room slowly returned to normal.
「In the presidential suite」
Nina Wynn sat up in bed and took out her phone.
After a moment’s thought, she sent a text to Zyler Rhodes: "Brother, did Uncle really marry Miss Lowell abroad?"
He replied quickly: "They’ve had a marriage contract since they were children. It was delayed because of a misunderstanding, so they didn’t get married then. It would be normal for them to get married abroad now. Besides, this is a good thing. Why are you asking about this, Nina?"
Nina Wynn stared at the message for a while, sent a reply, then got up and put on her coat.
「Two hours later」
When Caleb Rhodes returned, he found that Nina Wynn wasn’t in the room.
He stared at the empty bed and reached out to touch the covers.
They were cold!
Nina Wynn had been gone for some time.
He thought of Zyler Rhodes, who had left early, and felt a nerve twitching in his head, making his temples throb.
His face expressionless, he took out his phone and dialed Nina Wynn’s number. He was quickly met with the notification that her phone was off.
He gripped the phone so tightly that the veins on the back of his hand bulged.
He then dialed Zyler Rhodes’s number. It was also off.
Just then, a call came in from Willson Lawson.
"Third Lord Master, you need to come out, quickly!"
"Ivy Lawson is making a scene over there, saying Miss Wynn and Master Weston slept together!"
...
Caleb Rhodes barely heard what else Willson Lawson said. His mind was consumed by a single image: Nina Wynn writhing and moaning under Zyler Rhodes, her expression a maddening mix of pain and pleasure.
His hands and feet turned to ice, and his head buzzed as if it were filled with water.
’In that instant, he had already decided where he would bury Nina Wynn and which stinking ditch he would throw Zyler Rhodes into.’
He stood frozen for a moment, then slowly put his phone away and walked out.
When the door opened, Willson Lawson, who was waiting outside, was about to speak but froze in shock.
Caleb Rhodes’s eyes were bloodshot, and the murderous aura rolling off him was so thick he looked like a demon that had just crawled out of Hell.
He was so startled he didn’t dare to speak.
Caleb Rhodes pushed past him, his voice dripping with that same terrifying, murderous aura. "Which room?"
