Chapter 90: Chapter 90: Taking Pity on Her

"Nina Wynn, that’s your own aunt! She’s four or five months pregnant. How could you be so cruel?"

Nina Wynn snapped her head up and looked at Ivy Lawson. "What are you talking about?"

Ivy Lawson shot her a triumphant smile, her voice growing louder. "Nina Wynn, how can you be so vicious? That’s your own aunt!"

To Nina, that smile was as malicious as a demon’s.

Countless times before, they had done the same thing—ordering others to bully and humiliate her while they stood by, watching and laughing!

It was as if other people’s lives were worthless in their eyes, something to be trampled on at will!

Blood rushed to Nina’s head. She trembled with rage, wishing she could march over and claw their faces off.

Just then, Lana Shaw cried out again, "Blood... so much blood... my baby..."

Nina looked down and saw Lana Shaw drenched in a cold sweat from the pain, the area between her legs stained red.

"My stomach... my stomach!"

"My baby, save my baby!"

Alarmed, Nina knelt and placed a hand on Lana Shaw’s belly, her voice urgent. "Aunt, it’s going to be okay! I’ll call for help right now!"

Lana Shaw was covered in sweat, writhing in agony.

Nina was frantic with fear, terrified something would happen to Lana. Her hand trembled as she held her phone.

Just then, Crystal Rhodes and Ivy Lawson rushed down the stairs.

Crystal snatched Nina’s phone and threw it to the ground, sneering, "Nina Wynn, if your aunt miscarries today, my father will kill you. She’s carrying a son, you know!"

Nina ignored her, picking up the phone to try and call again, but the screen was shattered.

Hearing the commotion, everyone in the main hall came out.

Zyler Rhodes had also caught up.

Madam Rhodes took one look at the scene and immediately understood. She snapped, "Someone, get her to a hospital! Are you all stupid? Bring the car around, now!"

Warner Zimmerman stepped forward and pulled Nina to her side, whispering, "Are you okay? What happened?"

Crystal pointed at Nina, her voice venomous. "We were just talking on the steps when Nina suddenly ran over and pushed her aunt straight down!"

All eyes immediately fell on Nina.

Nina stared furiously at Crystal. "Crystal Rhodes, aren’t you afraid of retribution? My aunt’s baby is your own brother!"

Crystal sneered. "Nina Wynn, your aunt told you the other day that she was disowning you. You held a grudge, and now that you think my uncle has your back, you dare to do anything. Lana Shaw is your own aunt, yet you’d even harm her. You’re truly terrifying!"

Nina’s body trembled with anger. She hissed, "I didn’t do it!"

Just then, Ivy Lawson added in a small voice, "Nino, she’s your aunt. Why would you push her?"

Her voice was soft and weak, painting her as a kind, innocent flower—a complete change from her arrogant demeanor just moments before.

Nina wanted to rip their mouths shut. But before she could speak, Madam Rhodes demanded sternly, "Lana Shaw, speak for yourself! Who pushed you?"

Lana Shaw looked up at Crystal Rhodes and saw Crystal staring daggers at her, her eyes filled with warning.

Her gaze flickered before landing on Nina.

Seeing her drenched in sweat from the pain, Nina was terribly worried. She stepped forward and gripped her hand. "Aunt, the car will be here any second. Just hold on. The baby will be fine."

Lana Shaw shook her hand off and said in a low voice, "Nina, why did you push me?"

The words struck Nina like a bolt of lightning. Her entire body jolted, and she stared at Lana Shaw in disbelief. "Aunt, what are you saying?"

Lana Shaw, sweating profusely, clutched her stomach and said weakly, "Nina, was I not good to you before? Why would you do this to me? Pushing me down the stairs... you’re heartless!"

Nina stumbled back two steps, a sharp pain seizing her heart as if it were being violently ripped from her chest. She shook her head, looked at Lana Shaw, and murmured, "Aunt, why...?"

Crystal sneered, her voice dripping with sarcasm. "Nina Wynn, your own aunt says you pushed her, and you still won’t admit it? Do you really think she would frame you?"

Nina didn’t look at her, her gaze fixed only on Lana Shaw.

She felt as if a giant hole had been torn in her heart, bleeding uncontrollably, impossible to plug.

Her voice was hoarse. "Aunt, does this make you happy?"

Lana Shaw’s eyes darted away, unable to meet Nina’s. She wanted to say something, but the pain was so intense she could no longer stand up straight. She could only clutch her stomach and point weakly at the arriving car, motioning for people to help her into it.

The servants came over and helped Lana Shaw towards the car.

She was bleeding profusely from her lower body, leaving a trail of blood all the way to the car.

Watching the bright red trail of blood, Nina suddenly spoke. "Aunt, if this will make your life better, I’ll accept it. If you want me to take the blame for this, I will. But after this, I don’t owe you anything anymore. I hope you get everything you wish for in the Rhodes family!"

Before she could finish, Madam Rhodes snapped, "What an ungrateful wretch! After doing something like this, you have the audacity to say you don’t owe your aunt? Without her and without the Rhodes family, you would have starved to death long ago!"

She slammed her cane on the floor, furious. "We can’t let this wicked woman who pushed her own aunt down the stairs get away with it! Call the police!"

"If anything happens to the baby in Lana’s womb, you can rot in jail!"

"Someone, tie her up!"

Before she finished speaking, two servants moved to grab Nina.

Warner Zimmerman darted in front of Nina, her voice firm. "Just because you say she pushed her, does that make it true? What evidence do you have?"

Madam Rhodes pointed at Nina, fuming. "Her own aunt said she did it! Would we really frame her? This girl has always been quiet and calculating since she was a child. If I had known she was such a malicious person, I never would have let her stay in the Rhodes household all these years!"

Nina remained silent, her head bowed, letting the old woman curse her.

Warner Zimmerman’s face was cold as she said sternly, "Madam Rhodes, when you called me into the hall just now, you clearly saw Crystal Rhodes and this Miss Lawson talking with Lana Shaw. If you ask me, it was Crystal and Ivy Lawson who pushed her and pinned it on Nina!"

Hearing this, Crystal flew into a rage and pointed at Warner, shouting, "You’re nothing but a dog my uncle keeps! A bitch that no man wants! You want to protect Nina? Fine, you can go to jail for her!"

Warner stared at her coldly. "Miss Rhodes, aren’t you afraid of retribution?"

Crystal had suffered at Warner’s hands many times before. Now, on her own turf in the Rhodes estate, she finally felt she had the upper hand. She said smugly, "I didn’t do anything. Why would I be afraid of retribution?"

She pointed at Warner and ordered the servants, "Seize both of them!"

Warner Zimmerman had been by Caleb Rhodes’s side for a long time. She was always proper in her words and actions, carried a certain authority, and could even speak on Caleb’s behalf at times.

Therefore, even though Crystal gave the order, not a single one of them dared to move.

Crystal was furious. She kicked the nearest servant. "Seize them! Didn’t you hear me?"

Seeing how things were escalating, Warner realized this could be real trouble. She whispered to Nina, "Miss Wynn, do you have a phone? Call the Third Lord Master."

Nina kept her head down, silent. Her long eyelashes cast a deep shadow over her eyes, hiding her expression from view.

Besides, her phone was broken. She couldn’t make a call even if she wanted to.

Crystal, however, was not pleased. "Nina Wynn, you did something so vicious, and you still think Uncle can protect you? I’m telling you, dream on! You are going to the police station today!"

"I don’t mind telling you, Uncle and my father are in Grandfather’s study discussing something extremely important. Grandfather said that no matter what happens, they are not to be disturbed. So you can just give up that idea!"

Warner’s expression changed. Just as she was about to speak, a police car arrived at the Rhodes family’s main gate.

The alternating red and blue lights of the siren pierced the night, stinging Nina’s eyes.

A buzzing noise filled her head, and she could barely make out what people were saying. A cold sweat broke out on her palms and forehead.

Soon, uniformed officers stepped forward, and the scene descended into chaos.

Nina stood frozen in place, like a prisoner condemned to death. Suspicious glares and harsh words enveloped her, layer upon layer, as if trying to strangle her on the spot.

But her mind was in a daze. She couldn’t quite hear the sounds around her; she just stood there, motionless.

Warner had seen her like this before when things went wrong. Seeing her in this state again, Warner’s heart sank. She stepped forward and took her hand, her voice steady. "Don’t be afraid. I’m here. The Third Lord Master won’t let you go to jail. I’ll go with you now."

Nina regained some of her senses, clearly feeling Warner’s hand gripping hers. It was strong and firm.

Soon, the police led Nina to their car. Warner got into another one.

Just then, Zyler Rhodes rushed forward. He grabbed Nina’s arm and said urgently, "Nina, why did you push her? She’s your own aunt!"

Nina looked up at Zyler Rhodes and said slowly, "You know it wasn’t me, don’t you?"

She had never despised Zyler Rhodes as much as she did at this moment—despised him so much she wished he would drop dead on the spot.

She looked at him, the hatred and coldness in her eyes painfully obvious. "You were hoping my aunt’s baby wouldn’t be born. With her child gone, you’re the biggest beneficiary. You know I didn’t push her, but you needed someone to take the fall, didn’t you?"

Zyler was startled that Nina had figured it out so clearly.

But her gaze stung him, and he lowered his voice guiltily. "You won’t go to jail. Uncle won’t let you, and I won’t let you really go to prison either. You’ll only have to stay inside for a few days, then you’ll be out. Nina, don’t be afraid. It’ll be okay."

Nina’s lips curved into a sarcastic smile. She said in a low voice, "One moment, you’re telling me you like me, that you’ll give me everything, begging for my forgiveness. The next, you want me to take the fall for your wicked deeds. The Rhodes family’s ’affection’ is truly disgusting!"

The loathing in her eyes alarmed Zyler. He had a feeling that Nina would never forgive him now.

He said in a panic, "No, that’s not it! I couldn’t do anything about this today. Lana Shaw said with her own mouth that you pushed her. Nina, it’ll be fine. At most, you’ll just stay inside for a few days. Believe me..."

Just then, a police officer stepped forward to stop him. "Sir, please do not obstruct our work!"

With that, they pushed Nina into the car. Zyler was helpless and could only watch as Nina was taken away.

It was two hours after Nina had been taken away that Caleb Rhodes finally came out of the study.

The moment he emerged, Crystal Rhodes recounted the incident to him as if presenting a prize.

Caleb didn’t even let her finish before he exploded in fury, sending Crystal sprawling to the floor with a single slap.

The slap was hard and loud, delivered in front of everyone. Even Madam Rhodes and Walter Rhodes were stunned.

Before anyone could react, Caleb’s voice, as if steeped in ice water, rang out. "Brother, the two children you’ve raised are a complete failure. If the Rhodes family were left to them, it would be ruined. With children like yours, there’s no way I can trust them to join the Nash Group!"

The ferocity in his eyes was on the verge of erupting, his tone terrifyingly cold. "The plan we discussed today to invest in Zyler’s new company is canceled. From this day forward, I will not invest a single cent in either of them!"

Everyone was in a state of utter shock, especially Walter Rhodes!

His youngest son had always been cold, calm, and composed. He rarely made mistakes, possessed astonishing self-control, and had almost never lost his composure in front of others.

He had always been extremely satisfied with this son, viewing him as the pillar who could elevate the Rhodes family to new heights.

But he never expected that this son would lose his composure in public today over an insignificant little orphan girl, even striking his own granddaughter, Crystal Rhodes.

It was a well-known fact that this youngest son had doted on Crystal since she was a child, spoiling her to the point of giving her whatever she wanted.

This showed that the little orphan girl held a significant place in Caleb’s heart—far more than the casual remark he’d made in the study about ’pitying her’ and ’it would be a loss of face for the Rhodes family if she died outside’.

A faint sense of unease rose in his heart. He said grimly, "Caleb, she is your niece. Couldn’t you have talked things out instead of resorting to violence? Is this how an uncle should act?"

At that moment, Crystal also came to her senses.

This was the first time she had ever been hit in public, and in front of all the Rhodes family servants, no less!

Her own uncle had sent her to the floor with a single slap!

Her face was numb, yet it stung with pain. She could feel it starting to swell!

She clutched her stinging, numb cheek and burst into tears. "Uncle, you hit me! You hit me again for an outsider!"

Madam Rhodes also snapped out of her shock, pulling the wailing Crystal protectively to her side.

She pointed an angry finger at Caleb. "Caleb, you’d strike your own family for an outsider? In your heart, is that little orphan girl more important than your own niece?"

Leo Rhodes and Zyler Rhodes were also too stunned to speak!

Facing a room full of questioning stares, Caleb turned to his older brother and said heartlessly, "Brother, Sister-in-law is already at the hospital. Aren’t you worried? She’s carrying your son. Why aren’t you going to see her immediately? Or is it that you don’t want this child to be born at all?"

Leo was taken aback for a moment, then flew into a rage. "Caleb, what are you trying to say?"

Caleb’s cold, merciless gaze shifted to Crystal for a few seconds, then to Zyler, before finally returning to Leo.

"You know best what you’re thinking, Brother. But how you choose to deal with your unborn son is your business. Don’t drag my person into your schemes and make her a scapegoat!"

He spoke slowly, his expression utterly frigid. "This is the last time I will tolerate your daughter bullying Nina Wynn. If there is a next time, you should know exactly what I will do."

With that, he left the room full of people and strode briskly outside.

Everyone in the room was stunned. Madam Rhodes was particularly incensed, shouting, "This is outrageous!"

"Caleb Rhodes, are you going to turn against your own family for an outsider?"

Walter Rhodes watched his youngest son’s retreating back with a dark expression and said in a low voice, "Mom, Crystal needs to be disciplined. I will handle this. Please, stop making a scene."

「...」

Caleb drove at top speed, arriving at the police station in no time.

He had left in such a hurry that he forgot his jacket, entering the station in just a dress shirt.

As soon as he walked in, he saw Warner Zimmerman and asked grimly, "Where’s Nina Wynn? Is it taking this long to give a statement?"

Warner’s expression was grim, her tone heavy. "Third Lord Master, things are a bit complicated right now!"
