My Gacha System: Starting with a Divine Talent Tree.-Chapter 23: Witches.
’...I really hope I can get a high-ranking technique.’
Eden sighed as he opened the door of his room.
Only to find his personal maid sitting on his bed.
Lira, his maid, a slender girl with black hair tied neatly behind her head, sat calmly on the edge of his bed.
Eden tilted his head as his gaze met with hers as she gently stood up and bowed slightly.
"...What were you doing on my bed?" Eden asked, walking closer, narrowing his eyes.
"Nothing," she replied with a straight face. "I was just waiting for you."
Eden rubbed his face as he moved past her. "Don’t just sit on my bed."
"I have no desire for that," she replied, turning around.
"Tch." Eden clicked his tongue as he took off his shirt. "Can’t you be a little more thoughtful of my feelings?"
Lira moved closer and helped him take off his shirt. "I don’t care for your feelings, young master."
Eden shot her a sideways glance as the fabric slipped off his shoulders.
"...You’re really bad at your job, you know that?"
Lira didn’t even flinch. "If my job involved caring about your emotions, perhaps."
"Can’t you be like a loving maid?" Eden said as she stepped back, folding the shirt neatly.
"I’m sorry for having my own personality," she said, placing his shirt down. "I hope you don’t kill me for that."
Eden clicked his tongue once again as he moved to the mirror to look at his body.
’My body has improved a lot.’
His own reflection surprised him a lot.
The soft lines of his once-ordinary build had turned leaner and harder.
’Dragon-Elephant Prajna really works like a cheat code,’ he thought, flexing a hand. Veins pulsed faintly beneath his skin.
’A few more sessions, and I might start looking like I actually know how to fight.’
Eden quickly caught a pair of eyes on him from behind.
"...You’re staring," Eden said, catching her gaze in the mirror.
She didn’t respond as Eden turned around to find her still staring at him.
He frowned in confusion. "What?"
"...There is a high chance you could die in your first mission," Lira said, looking into his eyes.
Eden immediately got annoyed. "Why tell me—"
"I can help you," she responded with a straight face. "If you have any sexual needs."
"...."
For a second, Eden thought he was hearing something wrong.
He blinked, stunned. "...Really?"
"You reek of horniness, young master," Lira said, her face immediately turning disgusted. "Do you really want to do it?"
"...No," Eden said, rubbing his temples. "Just go away."
Lira nodded, bowed slightly, and walked out of the room.
But not before giving him a look as she closed the door.
[<That maid is a horny one.>]
’Exactly! She is really stupid.’
He dropped onto his bed, exhaling loudly, the springs creaking beneath him.
≤I don’t understand.≥
Eden frowned at Seraph’s words. "What do you mean?"
≤Don’t you humans love to involve in those activities? Then why did you say no?≥
Eden groaned and dragged a pillow over his face. "Can we not have this conversation right now?"
≤Why not?≥ Seraph’s tone was maddeningly curious. ≤You are young, physically healthy, so I assumed you would accept.≥
"I don’t wanna fuck my maid," Eden said, rubbing his face. "So just stop."
≤You humans are strange.≥
Eden let out a sigh as he sat back up.
’I don’t know which is worse, my maid or the voice in my head.’
[<Excuse me?>]
’Not you.’
Eden let out a sigh as he brought the status screen in front of him.
’Let’s have another look at my talents.’
=======
Classes:
— [Time Mage]
— [Soulmancer]
— [Saint of Life and Death]
— [Chosen One] (Active)
— [Weaver of Space]
=======
Eden stared at his classes for a long time.
These classes were not much different from the talents he got from the Goddesses.
It’s more or less the same thing.
’...Why didn’t they just give me the talent? Why bother with class?’
[<The world isn’t as easy as it seems, Eden.>]
Sana’s voice echoed in his head as he tilted his head. "What?"
[<The concept of classes was made by someone that the Goddesses can’t overrule.>]
’....’
Eden kept his silence, but there was one name that rang in his mind.
’...Satan.’
He let out a sigh as he rubbed his face.
’So, even when I have divine talents, I would need a class to fully utilize its uses?’
[<Yes.>]
Eden rubbed his face as he pushed the screen aside and stood up.
The moment he moved, the door swung open and a lady walked inside.
Eylvenn smiled as she immediately hugged Eden. "How is my baby doing?"
At this point, Eden had just accepted his fate as he replied, "Dying from suffocation."
Eylvenn quickly let go of him as she observed him upside down. "You look great."
"Thank you," he replied, taking a step back. "Why are you here?"
"I can’t see my son?" she asked as Eden grabbed another shirt.
"It’s not that..." he mumbled. "Do you need anything?"
Eylvenn grabbed his hand and dragged him. "Come sit with me."
Eden groaned as he sat down on the bed facing his mother.
Eylvenn sat gracefully beside him, her long silver dress flowing like liquid light across the sheets.
Eden stared at the floor, avoiding her gaze. "If this is another emotional talk before my mission, I swear—"
"It’s not," she interrupted softly, crossing one leg over the other. "I just want to warn you about something."
Eden turned to look at her face; she wasn’t looking back. "...What?"
"There is a saying that’s well known among the commoners," she said, glancing back at him.
"Trust a storm’s fury before a witch’s smile. Like to cross a witch, and your line ends with you."
Eden tilted his head as he looked at her confusingly. "...What do you mean?"
"I mean... do not engage with witches," Eylvenn said, looking at him. "If you feel any witches are involved in the mission... abandon it."
Eden blinked at her words, unsure if he’d heard her correctly. "...Witches?"
"Yes," she said quietly. "If you ever encounter one, you leave. Immediately."
Eden frowned. "You’re serious?"
Her blue eyes locked with his. "Dead serious."
Eden looked at her face. "Aren’t you overreacting—"
Eylvenn’s hand shot out faster than his eyes could follow. She grabbed his chin and forced him to look at her.
"Don’t mock what you don’t understand," she said softly but coldly. "Witches are not like the things you’ve seen."
Eden’s words caught in his throat. His mother had never looked so... serious.
"There is no race more dangerous than a witch," she said, standing up. "Never get involved with them, Eden."
She moved towards the door. "Get some rest. You leave at dawn tomorrow, don’t you?"
Eden sighed, still reeling from her sudden shift in tone. "Yeah."
"Good." She paused, her hand on the doorknob. "And Eden..."
He looked up.
"If you see a woman whose shadow moves before she does... run."
The door closed softly behind her, leaving Eden sitting alone on the bed.
’Witches, huh...’
He let out a low breath and leaned back against the wall. ’I wonder if I will encounter any.’
≤The chances are low but not zero, and whatever your mother said is true... they are terrifying.≥
Eden nodded as he rubbed his face in frustration.
[<.....Umm.>]
But he paused when he felt hesitation in Sana’s voice.
’...What is it?’
[<Well... there may or may not be a witch among the spiritual daughters.>]
Eden sat frozen for a long... long second.
’...Fuck.’
