Day by day, Heena's birthday was drawing closer. Even while studying in the mornings, various fantasies kept swirling through my mind, refusing to leave. I tried to dedicate the set amount of study time each day, without fail.

With Heena's birthday, we would become complete adults, free from any constraints. The thought of her soon-to-open studio apartment, the black lingerie we chose together, all these thoughts were muddling my mind every morning.

Preparing for that day, I found it increasingly difficult to look at various materials. My youthful vigor was hard to control. As a result, I had to forcibly meditate during my study sessions from morning to lunch.

Truth be told, with only a few days left for her birthday, there wouldn’t be a problem if I just went ahead and did it. But having waited eagerly for that day for so long, it felt too precious to rush now. Of course, there was that time not long ago when we almost crossed the line, but in the end, we didn’t!

After hours of studying while wrestling with these thoughts, I usually studied from morning to around lunchtime, a period when I could focus well. I strictly adhered to this schedule, using any remaining time after dates or breaks to study more.

I even thought about taking a complete break and starting fresh in March, but following Heena’s schedule last year had ingrained a habit of studying. Now, not studying actually made me anxious.

Today, after studying until around two in the afternoon, I waited for Heena's call while eating an apple prepared by my mother.

Because, finally.

-Ring Ring

"Hello? Did the move go well?"

─Yes! No problems at all! You must be finishing up your morning study, right? Can you come over?

"Of course! I'll be right there!"

─Don’t rush, come safely!

It was the day Heena was moving in!

I hurried as much as I could to her new studio, despite being told to be careful. Originally, I wanted to help with the move. But I was scolded by Uncle and heeseong Hyung, saying there wasn’t much to move and what could a student retaking exams do to help.

So, I waited patiently, studying as usual.

"Ah! Yeonho’s here! Over here~"

"You got here fast."

In front of the apartment building, Heena and Heeseong hyung stood side by side, welcoming me. I ran up to her, took her hand, and looked around.

"Where are Uncle and Auntie?"

"Dad had to go back early because of work, and Mom is in the room. Were you tired coming over?"

"Tired? It’s you who must’ve been tired from moving all this stuff. Are you okay?"

As Heena and I exchanged these words with smiles on our faces, a gruff voice interjected.

"I moved all the stuff, so what's there to be tired about. You have Mom's card, right?"

"Yes, I’ve got it. We'll be back soon."

I just arrived. Where to?

Despite my confusion at Heena's response, I kept silent, figuring she must have her reasons.

"Alright. I'll swing by Mela to get Mom some coffee."

"The cafe where you had your interview? You're going there?"

"It's not far, just a 10-minute trip. Besides, the manager would be upset if I didn't stop by when I'm in the area."

I had only seen her once, but she seemed too easy-going to get upset about something like that. Still, I couldn't be sure since I didn't know her well.

Anyway, Heeseong Hyung left us with those words and departed. As he disappeared from view, I turned to Heena and asked.

"So, where are we going? I thought you just wanted to show me how you've arranged your room."

"To the supermarket!"

"Do we need to buy something?"

"Most things are taken care of, but we're running low on items like toothbrushes and toothpaste at home, so I want to pick those up. And anything else we might need." 𝚏r𝗲ewe𝚋𝐧𝚘vel.𝚌𝚘m

"Ah, it's close by, so a quick trip should do it."

"Yeah! Shall we go then?"

"Sure."

I walked hand in hand with Heena towards the supermarket. Along the way, she kept smiling and chatting excitedly about her recent move.

"While packing, I realized I had a lot of clothes I don't wear anymore. Yesterday, Mom and I had a hard time getting rid of them."

"We must have found a lot of our couple outfits too."

"A lot~ Remember the denim shorts and tees we wore to the beach the year before last?"

"I do. I think we wore them again last summer on a date."

I was somewhat vague, honestly. We had matched our outfits quite often.

"I put them away after last summer, but found them again yesterday while organizing. They've faded quite a bit... Maybe we should go for a different style this summer?"

"Sounds good. And now that I think about it, we kind of matched our outfits today too."

"Did we, now?"

Today, Heena wore black pants and a knit, topped with a grey oversized cardigan. It was probably the same one we bought together around this time last year. Coincidentally, I wore the same cardigan, but with jeans and a white sweatshirt underneath.

It wasn't intentional, but we ended up looking like we had coordinated our couple look. Since the weather was warm today, it was too hot for coats or padded jackets, making the cardigans a perfect choice.

Taking advantage of our unintentional couple look, we stopped to snap a photo on the street before heading back to the supermarket. The location of Heena's studio was perfect; the subway and bus stations were just a five-minute walk away, and the medium-sized supermarket we were heading to was also close. Even more conveniently, there was a convenience store even nearer.

Being near a university area, there were also plenty of options for ordering delivery food. The house itself was amazing. It was like the ideal, dream solo living situation.

That probably explained why Heena was so incredibly high-spirited. I had rarely seen her this happy.

While listening to Heena's chatter, we soon arrived at the supermarket. As we entered, Heena grabbed a shopping basket, but I quickly took it from her to carry myself.

At that, Heena hooked her arm around mine with a playful giggle, seemingly pleased by something.

"Do we need toothbrushes and toothpaste, right? Is it over there?"

"Let's just take a leisurely stroll around and see."

"Okay."

We ambled through the supermarket, leisurely like on a walk. First at the snack aisle, we picked up some snacks to munch on later, and Heena seemed to be considering trying her hand at cooking as she intently browsed the grocery section.

I was a bit worried, but her mother must have prepared quite a bit, and it would be nice to cook together when I was there. I had been learning steadily from my mom, so I felt confident I could cover for us.

As we continued browsing various sections, we started seeing the bathroom supplies Heena had mentioned.

As soon as we got there, Heena began examining each item, asking for my opinion.

"Yeonho, which toothpaste should we get?"

"Any?"

I had never really thought about types of toothpaste. Aren't they all the same?

"Don't be like that~ Then, what type of toothbrush do you prefer?"

"One with fine bristles? I don’t really know what other types there are."

"This kind?"

She grabbed the type of toothbrush I mentioned and without much thought, tossed it into the basket. She was also pondering over toothbrush cups, looking for a set rather than individual ones. Seeing this, it was clear why she had asked for my opinion.

"Are you picking one for me too?"

"Yes!"

"Um... I'd like a mint-colored cup then."

"Look at this one. It has blueberries on it!"

"Oh, that’s nice. Pretty, isn't it?"

"Yes, it is."

There was no reason to be shy or refrain now. After all, Heena, her family, and I knew that I would be visiting her studio quite often. It made sense to have couple items, including my own things, at her place.

The only issue might be that I don’t usually use a cup when I brush my teeth. But seeing her so happy shopping, it seemed best not to bring up unnecessary points.

"Anything else you need?"

"Let's see... We can share my cleansing foam and soap... How about shampoo? It didn’t irritate your scalp when you used it at my place, right?"

"It was fine. Smelled good, too."

I had used it a few times when I occasionally stayed over at Heena's house. The scent of the shampoo she used, now coming from me, felt somewhat ticklish.

"Then we don’t need shampoo. Next is~"

She leaned closely against me, lost in thought. It almost felt like we were already living together, picking out items for use in her studio.

"Shower puffs and bathroom slippers! Let's get matching ones!"

"One shower puff should be... no, let’s get two."

"Hmm~? Maybe one would be enough?"

In our house, we only had one shower towel. But that didn't mean the whole family shared it; I didn't use it for showers.

I wasn't sure if my parents or brothers used it or not.

So, my initial thought was, do we really need two? But then, it seemed right to buy two. One would imply we’d share it.

But Heena, not missing a beat on my slip of words, playfully held up just one and whispered softly in my ear.

"We could just use one to wash each other, right?"

"Ha..."

I let out a small sigh at her provocative tone. Just a few days left, and she's teasing like this.

Well, no need to hold back anymore, right?

"Okay, just get one! One is enough, right?"

I responded confidently. Heena seemed startled at first─

"Really?! So we're getting just one? No second thoughts! And no bringing from home!"

"......"

But she didn't look flustered at all.

Actually, she accepted it with sparkling eyes. But do we really need a shower puff? I wash just fine without one.

"No using it is also forbidden! I'll be watching!"

Did she read my mind? But how would she watch?
