My Gluttony System: I Devour God-Tier Talents-Chapter 39: This is Astria!
The drive across the bustling city finally landed them at a hotel. The structure stood like a monument at the heart of the western district of Astria.
It was a symbol of wealth within the district.
The streets were paved with polished stones and gas lamps that glowed with different colours.
The building itself wasn’t just elegant but awe-inspiring with windows covered with velvet curtains.
Kyrie glanced at Desirae as the car parked to the entrance.
"Here?" he inquired in surprise.
She smiled faintly, turning off the engine.
"Where else?"
He shrugged and got out of the car. Looking around cautiously as he followed behind her.
The lobby was just as beautiful as the exterior. With walls that seemed to be made of quartz.
There were marble floors stretched out underneath crystal chandeliers.
The furniture was extravagant. With velvet chairs and well polished mahogany tables.
There was a grand staircase that curved upward at the back of the room, rails plated gold.
This is going to cost a fortune. Kyrie complained inwardly.
Desirae approached the front desk with grace, confidence evident in her step.
At the desk, a young woman stood ready to serve them. She had dark hair nearly curled, her skin was fair and warm.
She looked up as Desirae approached with eyes widened for reasons Kyrie couldn’t pinpoint yet.
"Miss Vaughn,"
The attendant said, her voice polite but slightly short.
"Welcome back."
Desirae leaned against the counter, her smile soft and charming. Fingers tapping on the wooden frame.
"Good to see you again."
" What’s that name again?" Desirae asked, her eyes licking the woman’s body.
" Felicity " the attendant’s voice cracked slightly. Her cheeks were changing colour underneath Desirae’s gaze.
"Your rooms are ready. Just as you requested."
"Perfect." Desirae reached into her coat and pulled out a small card, sliding it across the counter.
"For Felicity."
Felicity’s eyes looked at the card. Face fully flushed.
"T–Thank you."
"Anytime." She winked.
Kyrie stood at the back, paying attention to the exchange wondering what he missed prior to this moment.
Kyrie was still adapting to everything. He heard that there were two rooms and relief hit him like a wave.
For a moment. Just for a moment. He’d wondered if Desirae had brought him to a hotel for some action after all they should’ve been heading to her house and not here.
Now he felt like an idiot. Much deserved though.
Desirae turned to Kyrie while holding up two keys.
"Come on. Let’s get you settled, Hun."
.....
They arrived at the room as she helped Kyrie with the door. He was new to this.
Kyrie slowly stepped inside, his gaze sweeping over the space absorbing its features in an instant.
The room was quite fancy as expected.
It has a large bed with silk sheets. Flanked by a pair of wooden nightstands.
The walls were layered in burgundy, and the furnitures like chair, writing desk and a stool.
It was the kind of room that had only one mission. Comfort.
Desirae who still watched him, leaned against the doorframe.
"Not bad, right?"
"It’s..."
Kyrie set his bag down carefully.
"Yeah. Not bad."
She smirked.
"Glad you like it "
"Now go take a hot bath. Astria’s colder than Strevus, and even more at night."
She glanced at her wrist, though she wasn’t wearing a watch.
"We’re leaving in twenty"
Kyrie blinked in confusion.
"Leaving? Where to?"
"Dinner " She said bluntly while turning towards the reception area again.
"Don’t spend too much time. I know the bubble bath can be tempting."
The bath was quick and effective the hot water helped, loosening his muscles,
Once done, he got dressed in clean clothes, the scarf back around his neck, the pendant hidden in his shirt.
He inspected himself in the mirror in the room even as his thoughts drifted to Desirae.
She wasn’t what he’d expected.
She was powerful. Terrifyingly so.
But also.playful, flirtatious and free spirited, in a way that felt so familiar.
She’s like Negan. He thought
Negan was exactly the same. Charming, confident, capable of commanding a room with zero effort.A casanova who wore his charisma on his sleeves.
Desirae felt like the female version of that.
No wonder they’re close.
It made sense now. Why Negan trusted her so much.
Why he would sent Kyrie here without hesitation.
His white hair still wet, his scarf around his shoulders with eyes that were tired yet sharp.
He definitely looked like he belonged here.
Kyrie got out of the room and made his way to Desirae at the reception.
She leaned over the counter, now dressed loosely without her coat, only trousers and blouse.
Kyrie looked at her from behind and he was certain she was living in the wrong era.
The modern age was more fitting for her.
Felicity laughed loudly. Desirae teasing her.
" I’m ready, " Kyrie said gently causing felicity to straighten up.
"Alright, let’s go " Literally half way to the door in what seemed like seconds.
The car pulled out from the hotel, entering the streets of Astria.
—
The drive through Astria was breathtaking.
Kyrie pressed closer to the window as the car moved through the streets, his gaze catching on everything all at once.
There were clockwork towers that rose above the city like mechanical pillars, their parts still gleaming with steams coming from vents even as the evening crept in properly.
Above them, multiple airships floated lazily through the sky. Kyrie was surprised how they weren’t bumping into eachother.
They were of smaller scale compared to the vessel that brought him to Astria.
These were more personal crafts, private ships. Some were modern unlike those in Strevus.
Others were more intricate in design like they carried dukes and duchesses.
Kyrie could hear faint music drifting down from a few of them.
" Are they partying up there ?"
"Yeah, those are private ships,"
Desirae said, following his gaze.
"The wealthy use them for entertainment. Some are government-approved for public events and transport."
Kyrie nodded slowly, still observing this new world.
The streets had housing patterns different from Strevus. The gutters were clean, with shops advertising products along glass windows in the avenue.
Desirae turned a corner, and the car slowed as they passed a tea shop.
A sign in the window read:
Starlight Blend – 5 Crowns.
Kyrie’s eyebrows rose at the price.
"Five crowns?" he blurted out.
"In Strevus, that would’ve cost one. Maybe less" He lamented openly.
"This is high way robbery, they’re bleeding you guys "
Desirae laughed at his reaction.
"Poor boy, this is Astria. Expensive means good and good means expensive"
"What exactly am I doing here.-- Negan said everything would make sense when am here "
Desirae kept her eyes locked on the road moving fast as she dodged other vehicles on the road.
" What are you doing here !? " She paused for a moment.
"I thought that was obvious enough"
Kyrie raised an eyebrow.
"Maybe to you"
She chuckled at his sarcasm. He seemed to be getting comfortable.
" Good one. But the truth is – You’re here to learn, grow and evolve "
She paused, her purple eyes flicking toward him.
"And also stay out of trouble"
A knowing look crossed her face.
"Though I doubt you will"
Kyrie almost smirked as it was obvious she knew of his little escapade with Vivienne.
.....
The car had turned to a wide boulevard.
He could only imagine the torment he was going to go through under her.
Desirae’s voice abruptly cut through his thoughts.
" We are here " 𝚏𝐫𝚎𝗲𝕨𝐞𝐛𝕟𝚘𝐯𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝗺
The restaurant was called Fletcher’s Kitchen
They stepped in and the decor was just as extravagant as the rest of Astria, the interior looking familiar with arts and structures to obviously impress.
Kyrie followed Desirae to a table near the back with its appeal being the view of the decorated fountain just a few feet from the restaurant.
A waiter appeared abruptly and Desirae ordered without looking at the menu.
She was aware of what she wanted unlike Kyrie who looked at the menu that the waiter presented. Taking a sip of the complimentary glass of water.
"Roasted duck with cherry glaze, and a bottle of your best red wine." Desirae said.
The waiter nodded and looked at Kyrie who was still looking at the menu totally oblivious of what he was looking at.
He might not be aware of the menu but was aware of the outrageous prices.
What the hell were these ridiculous prices he pondered.
Fifteen crowns for soup. He said inwardly.
He set down the menu as he looked at the waiter.
"Don’t worry,"
Desirae said, catching his expression.
"Dinner’s on me."
She gestured for the waiter to bring her order in a pair and he immediately disappeared into the back.
She smiled as Kyrie kept mumbling.
" I will go broke in no time in this city"
The food arrived quickly as Desirae poured herself a glass of wine.
Kyrie ate slowly, savoring it. It was easily the best meal he’d had in his life and he was definitely talking of both lifetimes.
Desirae watched him for a moment before speaking.
"Negan told me about your abilities. Fire manipulation. Emotion reading."
Kyrie looked up, nodding slowly.
"Yeah, you’ve already witnessed my emotion reading abilities "
She nodded in acknowledgement as she took a sip of the wine.
" Hope you know that makes you an Omni-type."
Kyrie paused mid-bite of some duck.
"A what?" He pretended like he hadn’t seen it in his host overview of the system.
"Omni-type," she repeated.
"Psions are categorized by their abilities. Most fall into one category. But some, like you, don’t fit cleanly into one box."
Kyrie set down his fork. Picking the glass of wine.
"And that’s a problem?"
Desirae took a sip of wine.
"Depends who you ask. Omni-types are rare, versatile, and dangerous."
She paused with a smug on her face.
"Are you even old enough to drink "
Kyrie looked at her, rolling his eyes slightly.
" I can spit fire if I want to, I can definitely hold my liquor."
She chuckled.
"Anyways people see Omnis as weapons. You can manipulate emotions and burn someone alive.
That’s subtle and destructive.
"It makes people nervous."
Kyrie leaned away from the table slightly.
"So they’re going to see me as a threat?"
"Some will. Others will see you as valuable." She met his gaze.
"They will test you. They’ll want to know what you’re capable of. And they’ll try to figure out how to use you."
Kyrie’s jaw tightened.
"And what do you think?"
Desirae smiled faintly.
"I think you’re more dangerous than they realize."
She finished her wine and stood.
"Just look how I turned out "
She gestured for the waiter.
Kyrie’s face contorted into a frown.
"I’m not done eating" he pleaded
"Come on. I want to show you something."
She gestured for him to stand up after paying.
"C’mon, what is it ?"
She glanced back, her smile sharp.
"The Real Astria."
