My Goddess is Good at Pretending-Chapter 627: The Ruins of War
"Why are there evil spirits here?" Fortuna wondered as she could feel a bad feeling.
As far as she could remember, monsters did exist in Heaven, but there were never wandering evil spirits, even though it was the first layer of the Heaven Realm. Moreover, her divinity could no longer help her peer into Heaven’s secrets. Her divination skill got blocked, and she couldn’t predict the future since she arrived in this realm.
"They are the fallen, dying with regrets, the ones who once lived here. We’ll get to the bottom of this, so please depart in peace." Elysia brought her hand closer to the offensive evil spirits, and they instantly vanished upon contact with her spiritual barrier, granting them a release.
"Those who died with regrets... your souls have long since departed, but why did your remnant souls get corrupted?" Liam smashed the approaching evil spirits, extinguishing them into nothingness.
"The path of samsara and afterlife is also broken..." Gaia paled at the realization.
"Then, where did the departed souls go?" Lifa held her breath, feeling the situation in this realm was graver than they had imagined.
"Everything probably gets stuck in the netherworld, considering the underworld is no more..." Fortuna shook her head.
"That hurt me." Darkness clutched her chest.
"Everyone, a great battle once took place there. The carcasses of giant monsters scattered everywhere." Xentia waved her hand from the sky, informing everyone while pointing northeast.
"I will get to the bottom of this!" Liam gritted his teeth and leaped high into the sky, heading towards the next layer of Heaven.
"Will he be okay to venture alone?" Elena pointed up.
"I guess, he should be fine..." Elysia wasn’t too sure because she barely knew anything about Liam’s combat power.
Based on the latest information, he could solo the strongest world boss and kill it in less than a minute. He was known as the mysterious expert in the mortal realm, breaking the world records one after another after beating even the strongest superheroes in shame.
If his overall abilities wouldn’t get nerfed, there was probably nothing that could stop him here, not even the God Emperor.
"Alright, everyone. Attention, please!" Elysia clapped her hands, urging her group to gather.
Once everyone gathered around her, she continued with the briefing. "We’ve arrived at Earth’s Heaven Realm. Unlike Quadtria, this realm allows even the mortal to set foot here. However, we fell into the semi-spiritual state where our physical abilities got nerfed a bit."
Elysia continued on about their current situation and what they would do next. The Heaven’s current circumstances were not good. It fell into the dangerous category where every area could become a forbidden zone due to the otherworldly divine monster invasion.
They would venture into the first three layers of the Heaven Realm briefly to check the overall situation. Afterward, they would pay a visit to a particular land in the 3rd Heaven, Shinou Island, the place predicted to be where Erina’s mother came from.
"It’s so sad, the remnant of war..." Rhea spoke to the trees and grass as she could feel their sadness and silent wails.
She tried to inquire about the Heavean’s situation from them, but unfortunately, they knew nothing about it. They only talked about the terrifying monsters that invaded their land, and many perished during the battle.
"I don’t believe the entirety of Heaven Realm got defeated. It was the war, and I’m sure most of the locals fled to the safe zones in the higher layers." Nell crossed her arms, trying to think positively.
"Mm, since even the lowest layer hasn’t been taken over by the invaders, the monsters clearly haven’t won anything." Fortuna nodded in agreement.
"If the war still continues, we’ll find out soon enough. The remaining Gods can still repair the Heaven afterward." Lifa looked at the sky as she rubbed Gaia’s back.
"You don’t have to try to comfort me. I’m fine. It’s all predetermined, the prophesied inevitable fate of Heaven’s setbacks." Gaia tapped Lifa’s arm with a reassuring smile.
As the Goddesses discussed the crucial matter, the disciples and chosen representatives were preoccupied with examining their surroundings with extra attention.
They observed Heaven’s air, soil, trees, grass, and even the rocks as if they were trying to ascertain the difference between the mortal world and the Heaven Realm.
They did feel the difference, not only in the environment, but also in their bodies just like what their master said previously. Their physical body got altered slightly to follow the rules of Heaven. Everyone got their body’s physical capabilities reduced by half.
"Let’s check the current status quo. Xen, we’ll board one of our flagship-class space battleships." Elysia concluded the discussion and announced their departure.
"By your will, master." Xentia bowed slightly and summoned one of her strongest flagship-class space battleships out of the ES Nirvana, passing through the realm portal her master opened for it.
*Swoosh!*
The flagship-class space battleship eight times the size of a normal battleship emerged, hovering above everyone’s heads. Once everyone boarded the spaceship, Xentia took them to inspect the Heaven Realm’s first layer before going straight to the second layer, and their inspection stopped at one of the holy lands in the third Heaven.
During the brief inspection trip, they could see the Heaven Realm’s ruined landscape stretched far and wide in almost every place. Many regions were shrouded in a silvery mist to cover the lands of ruins. It was as if Heaven’s will felt ashamed to show the remnant of the tragedy to them.
The most astonishing thing was there were no living creatures other than plants that survived the destruction of war. Strangely enough, there were also no bodies of the fallen Gods and Immortals despite the monsters’ bones scattered all over the place and evil spirits wandering everywhere.
As the spaceship docked at one of the holy land, the Shinou Island. It was no longer radiated its past glory. Just like the other place, the ruins with nobody inside.
"..." Erina bit her lower lips. The destruction that occurred in the Heaven Realm was more severe than what happened in the lower realm.
She couldn’t tell whether her mother survived the war or not, but her expectations weren’t high and got even lower after witnessing Heaven’s situation.
The Shinou Island, one of the renowned holy lands in the 3rd Heaven, was reduced to ruins. The pillars and arches were shattered, leaving dim remnants of divine architecture in ruins, overgrown with vines of luminous flora that glowed dimly in the fading light. Cracks in the golden-marble ground revealed fissures filled with drifting clouds, remnants of battles that tore apart the foundation of this holy land.
Fragments of celestial statues lie scattered across the terrain, some missing heads or limbs. Their expressions were frozen in a mix of wrath and sorrow. Ancient runes flickered weakly along the surfaces of broken walls and shrines, casting a faint glow over fallen shields and abandoned relics of warriors who fought valiantly.
"There’s no one here either... Why aren’t there even any bodies of the fallen? Did someone collect the dead bodies before they all fled to the higher sky?" Luna pondered about it as she couldn’t connect any dots nor predict the truth.
"You may not know, but the bodies of the ascended beings will perish into particles a few hours after their death, returning to nature. The most important things for the immortals are their soul essences." Gaia shared her insight with the others.

"But, why are there so many wandering evil spirits? They are not the souls of the fallen, but the lingering regrets and unwillingness, right?" Lynn asked curiously.
"Yes, the wandering evil spirits are mindless, the remnant." Fortuna nodded in agreement.
"Let’s go down. We can ask the local plants, especially that glowing tree. They will surely help us." Elysia extended her hand to Erina.
"Mm." Erina grabbed Elysia’s hand.
They jumped down from the spaceship, stepping their feet on holy ground that had lost its vibrant aura. Everyone also got off the spaceship, exploring that holy land and inspecting the ruins.
Elena, Ai, Rhea, and Zera went to escort Elysia closely. They went to the center of the floating island, the place where the central shrine was located.
Despite the debris everywhere, a sacred leafless young tree still stood tall and glowed among the fallen trees. It flickered slightly as if beckoning the newly arrived guests to come closer.
"Hi, may I know about your situation, Elder Tree?" Elysia greeted.
’Are you the envoys of restoration?’ The leafless tree responded via telepathy.
"We’re the wanderers, trying to figure out about Heaven’s current situation. Can you please tell us about your current situation first?" Elysia shook her head.
’It’s all happened after countless monsters invaded Heaven. Our people perished, bringing the immortal monster and its minions to the sealed domain. I’m the only surviving sacred tree, staying here to keep watch over Shinou and waiting for the future to unfold.’ The leafless tree dimmed as if to express its grief.
"You’re the only survivor of this land?" Elysia widened her eyes.
’Even if you’re not the envoys, can you please deliver this to the God Emperor? We’ve done our best, and some of us might still be alive in the sealed domain. Please save them.’ The leafless tree moved its veins and took out a jade token.
"This is..." Elysia inspected the jade token. It was like a memory card, recording all that happened during the last desperate battle against the immortal monster and its countless minions.
She only caught a glimpse, but the scene was so grave. It was a losing battle because the enemies were too strong.
