My Husband Is a Million Years Old Vampire-Chapter 155
Chapter 155: Chapter 155
At that moment The air in the room was filled with soft laughter and scattered clinks of glasses, but Avery’s eyes kept drifting to the two empty seats. Her perfectly painted nails tapped slowly against her wine glass.
"I mean, how long are we supposed to wait?" Avery finally said, her voice loud enough for everyone at the table to hear. "Valentina is always late. Always."
Then a few heads turned. Some of the other guests exchanged looks, the tension creeping in slowly like a stain on clean fabric. No one said anything outright, but the murmurs began.
"She acts like we have all the time in the world," Avery continued, louder now, letting her irritation bloom.
"Do they think they’re so special that we should all just sit and wait around for them?"
At that moment Sha looked up calmly from her seat, her expression unreadable. She took a small sip of water before setting the glass back down gently.
"Maybe they’re just caught up in traffic," she said, her tone soft but firm. "Let’s not jump to conclusions."
Upon hearing what Sha just said Avery’s gaze snapped toward Sha. Her lips curved into a tight smile, but there was no warmth behind it.
"Oh please, Sha," she said with a quiet laugh that didn’t reach her eyes. "I don’t expect anything different from you. You’ll always defend Valentina."
However Sha sat quietly, her fingers gently brushing over the rim of her glass as her eyes wandered across the room. The laughter and chatter around her faded into the background as she scanned the faces of the guests even more some familiar, some not.
Her gaze paused at a man seated three tables away. Tall. Upright. The sharp lines of his jaw matched the discipline in his posture. Commander Zane. That’s what most people called him. Sha knew he came from a long-standing military lineage—his father was a general, his grandfather a war hero. And Zane? A rising figure in national defense circles.
She found it strange—someone like him, who rarely appeared at social functions, showing up today. He had always been an open admirer of Valentina, though his pride kept him distant. He shouldn’t even be here... but he was. That alone was enough to keep Sha alert.
Still, she kept calm.
Two other men sat farther down, each surrounded by a small group of well-dressed guests.
One of them—Eliot Marlow—came from the Marlow Banking Empire. A family known for backing some of the largest industrial projects across the country. Eliot himself was ruthless in negotiation and icy in public. Sha remembered the last time she tried to talk to him during a fundraiser. He barely looked at her, then walked off mid-sentence.
The second—Darren Monroe—was the youngest heir of the Monroe Energy Group. His family had deep political roots, controlling major oil pipelines and energy contracts. He had charm, wit, and that dangerous grin that made women fall. Sha once tried to strike a conversation at a charity gala... He smiled, said "You’re trying too hard," and left.
They didn’t like her. Not because she was rude—but because they think, they saw right through her ambition. And now, from what they’d probably heard, she was struggling.
At that moment the room went dead silent.
The doors swung open slowly, and in walked Valentina, her hand gently linked around Raymond’s arm. For a second, time felt like it froze. Conversations halted. Heads turned.
Everyone had been expecting a grand entrance. A dramatic display. But no—it was simple.
Valentina wore a plain, elegant gown. Nothing sparkling, nothing extravagant. Just a soft satin blue that sat perfectly on her shoulders and moved like water when she walked. Her hair was tied back, minimal makeup, and yet... she carried herself like a queen.
immediately Avery blinked twice, trying to process what she was seeing.
"This is it?" she thought.
She leaned slightly toward her drink, whispering under her breath, "Where’s the diamond gown Chloe was talking about?" There was a hint of irritation in her voice... and relief.
"So Chloe must have been exaggerating."
She glanced at Sha, who seemed equally puzzled. Avery could feel her lips curling into a smug smile. Her chest relaxed, like a weight had just been lifted.
’Chloe must be out of her mind. All that panic... for nothing?’
She looked at Valentina again and tilted her head slightly.
’Maybe it was just for photoshoots... Or maybe the dress wasn’t even hers to begin with. Probably just a promo piece. There’s no way she owns something like that.’
And just like that, Avery’s confidence started returning, ’Chloe clearly got it wrong. Completely.’
She exhaled slowly and let the smile spread wider.
’I have nothing to worry about anymore.’
As soon as Valentina took her seat beside Raymond, her eyes met Sha’s, and for a moment, the years melted away.
"Sha?" Valentina blinked, then leaned closer, her voice soft with surprise and warmth. "I didn’t think you’d show up."
Immediately Sha smiled, a little caught off guard. "I didn’t think I would either," she replied honestly. "But... how could I miss the chance to see you again?"
Valentina reached across the small table and gently squeezed her hand. "It’s been too long."
Sha nodded. "Way too long. You look... amazing. Where have you been hiding all this time?"
Immediately Valentina chuckled. "That’s the same question I should be asking you."
They both laughed lightly. The air between them was warm, filled with old memories. Valentina then turned to Raymond beside her.
"Oh, Sha—meet my husband. Raymond."
Raymond offered a polite nod, his expression calm but respectful. "Nice to meet you."
Sha smiled, slightly stunned by how effortlessly composed he was. "The honour is mine. And thank you... for stealing Valentina’s heart."
Raymond smiled faintly but said nothing. Valentina, on the other hand, couldn’t help but laugh at the way Sha said it.
"You’re really saying that like I didn’t give it willingly," she teased.
Immediately Sha grinned. "Well, he’s very handsome. I don’t blame you."
Right at that moment, Avery, who had been watching closely, let out a short laugh—dry and loaded with meaning.
"just take a good look at them."
