Chapter 61: Leone’s Eighth Mission

Since the barracks was big enough to house both the Riverfang and Black Wolf Tribes, they decided to stay there for the time being.

After making sure that his people were well fed before they went to rest, Jason flew up the mountain with Arion’s help.

Leone had asked Ulric to pick up Jason because he wanted to talk about something important with the three chieftains.

But, as soon as Jason and Ulric entered the room, the young man knelt on one knee in front of Leone, similar to how a knight would address their Lord.

"Sir Leone, thank you for helping my tribe overcome the tragedy that almost befell them," Jason said respectfully. "If not for you then the Black Wolf Tribe might have ceased to exist."

"Please stand, Jason," Leone replied. "The reason why I asked Ulric to go and help the Black Wolf Tribe wasn’t’ for a noble reason. It was due to a very selfish one that ultimately benefited me in the end. I should be the one thanking you for coming here because you solved one of the problems we were facing."

Jason had no idea what Leone was talking about, but since the young man looked uncomfortable with him kneeling in front of him, he finally stood up and bowed in gratitude.

"Regardless of the reason, I am still very thankful for your help," Jason replied. "I will do my best to pay this debt in this lifetime."

Leone didn’t know that Jason was such a serious, and straightforward individual. His impression of him rose up a little, which made him realize why Yuni treated Jason like an older brother figure.

"Very well, I will accept your thanks," Leone replied. "Now, please sit properly because I have things that I need to discuss with the three of you."

Jason nodded and sat cross-legged on the ground, alongside Ulric, and Kael.

"Now that all of you are gathered here, allow me to properly introduce myself again," Leone said in a serious tone. "My name is Leone Frontera. I am the third son of the Viscount of Frontera.

"I have been involved in a political move by the nobles that don’t have a good relationship with my father, and because of this, they conspired to have me exiled from the kingdom."

The young man paused for a bit to ensure that all the chieftains were paying attention to him.

"My original goal was to survive here in the Borderlands," Leone added. "But, due to some twists and turns, I now stand before all of you here today. Aside from being a very handsome young man, I also gained the ability to build a kingdom from scratch. Yes, I know I’m awesome, so don’t praise me too much."

"As expected of Sir Leone," Kael commented before clapping his hands. "A hero among men has appeared in the Borderlands."

The corner of Ulric’s lips twitched because he didn’t expect that Kael would stoop as low as bootlicking. But, seeing the side grin on Leone’s face, he knew that it was actually working!

Jason didn’t comment, and only smiled faintly. Just like Ulric, he knew what Kael was doing. But, he was fine with that.

"Earlier, all of you must have felt that your body had grown a little stronger," Leone continued his speech. "What you experienced was a growth related to the power that I was talking about earlier. The power to build my own kingdom, and the side effect of this power was to make all those who I deemed as my subjects grow stronger as well."

Kael’s and Jason’s expressions became serious because getting stronger had always been something every barbarian warrior was striving for.

However, the miraculous growth they had experienced earlier was just so sudden that they still couldn’t believe they became strong without doing any kind of training!

"I will not lie to the three of you," Leone eyed the two chieftains calmly. "I don’t like fighting. I don’t like killing. But the Borderlands isn’t the kind of place where pacifists can live in peace. This is a place where the strong bullies the weak, and the weak bullies those who are weaker than them."

Ulric, Kael, and Jason nodded their heads in agreement. They had been living in the Borderlands for years, and understood that only the strong tribes get to dictate the rules that everyone follows.

"So, I will build a Kingdom that will allow my people to live in peace," Leone declared. "But what we need now is time. Time that will allow all of us to grow, just like what happened earlier.

"Unfortunately, I don’t think that we will be able to grow in peace. Even now, there is a guillotine that hangs above our heads that will drop in two months’ time. If we don’t tread this matter carefully, everything that we have built will fall like a deck of cards."

Ulric and Kael had briefed him, and Daedalus of the general situation of the Middle-Ranked Tribes. This allowed them to better understand what they should be watching out for in the future.

"But, if we all work together, I think we stand a chance," Leone stated. "Every time I complete a mission, I gain great rewards, including the growth that you have experienced earlier. And these missions generally give me an idea on what is going to happen next."

The young man then turned to Daedalus, and the grimoire hovered beside him.

Jason was still doing his best to stay calm as he looked at the floating, and talking Grimiore, which he believed was the source of Leone’s miraculous powers.

Daedalus projected the young man’s eighth mission, allowing the three chieftains to see its contents.

When Ulric saw the contents of the mission, his face immediately turned grim. He had been with Leone, and had noticed a certain pattern to the missions that the young man got after completing a mission.

Leone, and Daedalus were of the same mind. This mission meant that they should start arming their warriors, in preparation of a conflict that might arise in the future.

This was the first time that Kael and Jason saw one of the young man’s missions, so they were still clueless about the danger involved. However, they thought that this mission was good because it would strengthen their people.

A strong tribe not only had a great number of warriors, but they also had good equipment. If they could increase the number of their warriors, and arm them properly then they would become the strongest among the low-ranking tribes.

This meant that the Ashclaw and Stormhorn Tribe wouldn’t be able to bully them again because if they did, they would simply be courting death.
