My Mage System (BL)-Chapter 711: *Trying to ease the tension*
Chapter 711: *Trying to ease the tension*
Elias frowned as he surveyed the plains ravaged by flames. Not only was the scent of death still present, but craters and deep fissures in the ground demonstrated the power of these battles.
Caleb then said, "These fights must have stopped recently; that’s probably why they didn’t respond to us sooner!"
Isaac, feeling frustrated, replied, "But why didn’t Roman ask us for help? He knows we would have come without hesitation to lend a hand."
Elias then remarked, "The Drakonits have always been a proud race, but Roman wouldn’t put the lives of his people in unnecessary danger. So either he couldn’t contact us, or he judged that they could handle this crisis on their own."
He added, with a serious expression, "Let’s not waste any more time here. Let’s go ask him what really happened, and remember to use Axel’s Rune to immediately spot any corrupted souls among them."
Everyone nodded, and Elias decided to open another portal that would lead them directly to the arena of the Capital of the free Drakonit world, as Roman had requested.
He signaled for Isaac and Caleb to go first, along with Jordan and Kelan, followed by Ian, Liam, and finally Phil and Blaise, who crossed in turn, accompanied by the other Drakonits.
Elias then used his telepathic link to communicate with his reconnaissance team, saying to them, "Given the state of the terrain where we arrived, take your time and check every corner of their world. Open your senses to the maximum, and at the slightest sign of suspicion, notify me immediately!"
After receiving an affirmative response from his men, Elias crossed the golden portal, which promptly closed behind him.
Upon arriving in the arena, he immediately sensed that something was amiss. Isaac and Caleb were tense, positioning themselves protectively in front of the others, which visibly displeased Roman and the other Drakonits.
Elias frowned, but he quickly understood why they were so tense; three of Roman’s ten enforcers had corrupted souls, including his right-hand man—a Drakonit they all knew well who had once fought alongside them against the gods.
So to avoid any drama here, he casually placed himself in front of his men, and Roman came to meet him, clearly not understanding why Isaac and Caleb, who were good friends of theirs, were behaving this way.
Roman then shook Elias’s outstretched hand and asked him, still feeling obviously confused, "What’s going on? I thought you were just here to introduce us to these Drakonits and discuss the upcoming war, right?"
Elias smiled at him and asked, confident in Roman’s loyalty, "Do you trust us, my friend?"
Roman nodded without the slightest hesitation and said, "Naturally!"
Elias then told his men, through the telepathic link he shared with them, to relax, as it was not yet the right time to reveal to Roman that some men he considered brothers not only had corrupted souls, but that one of them had even become a Knight of Darkness.
And given the thickness of the black aura surrounding him, he must have been like that for some time already, and his power should not be taken lightly.
Elias then said aloud for everyone to hear this time, "Excuse my men for their behavior. When we arrived, we encountered what was left of a battlefield, and since Isaac and Caleb came with their respective partners, they are obviously overprotective."
He continued, trying to ease the tension, as there were too many innocent Drakonits in the stands to risk confronting these corrupted souls here, and the more he looked, the more he saw them everywhere. "We too have recently faced numerous battles, and we are all a bit tense right now. They probably didn’t expect this welcoming committee and that so many Drakonits would come to attend our meeting."
He then said to Roman through the communication stones, "Roman, my friend, your people are still in great danger. Let us help you; the situation is serious!"
Roman nodded gravely and replied through the communication stones, "I know there are traitors among us, so I trust you, my friend. But first, let’s ease the tensions; we will address this issue later."
Elias smiled at him, and this exchange, which lasted only the time of their handshake, raised no one’s suspicions.
Roman then spoke loudly to further relax the atmosphere and offer his people what they had all come for, saying, "After what Isaac has told me about this young Drakonit and his feats, and how this news has naturally spread faster than even our signal to prepare for war, you can imagine that all the Drakonits who could be present to witness our duel would be here."
Roman’s right-hand man then stepped forward and also extended his hand to Elias, who shook it as if nothing were wrong.
The Drakonit then draped his arm over Roman’s shoulders and remarked, "It’s been ages since Roman has faced a worthy opponent. We’re all eager to witness the power of this young Drakonit who has already earned the praise of the Warrior Spirits themselves!"
Elias smiled again and signaled for Ian to step forward. Ian then bowed his head in respect, and all the other Drakonits who had accompanied them did the same.
Roman placed a hand on Ian’s shoulder and said amicably, "Lift your head, young Drakonit. The friends of our friends are our friends."
Ian then spoke sincerely, feeling the strength of this man’s aura through the gentle hand on his shoulder. "It is truly an honor to meet you, King of the Drakonits. Thanks to you, many of our people have been able to live freely, and you have given hope to the others that one day they too will be able to join you and live in freedom."
Roman did not expect this from the young Drakonit, but these words touched him deeply, and he said, looking at the other Drakonits behind him, "Know that all Drakonits who wish to join us will be welcomed with open arms. We will assist them in settling in and finding their place within our world."
