My Perfect Revenge: Flash Marriage With My Vampire Tycoon-Chapter 148: – I’m Sorry –
Loredana was finally able to reach Lucian.
[Mom?]
"Lucy. Where are you?"
[Oh... I’m at the hospital. Somethings happened and—]
"Nikolas. What... what happened to him?"
[Mom]
"He’s not dead... is he? Lucian, tell me that he’s okay]
There was absolute silence on the other side of the phone. And that was all the answer he needed to know. She didn’t break down immediately, instead she said to him, "Come to the family doctor’s place."
[Huh? Why?]
"Your wife. She’s in a bad condition."
It was as if the information took a while to settle into Lucian’s mind. And in the next moment, he lost it, his tone sounding panicked. [My wife? Mom, what do you mean? What happened? Why is she in the hospital? SAY SOMETHING!!]
"She’s pregnant and I don’t think she knew," Loredana explained. "Your daughter went missing and the stress of it caused her to... to bleed."
The call instantly ended right then and there. Loredana wasn’t sure what happened. But she’d grown weak. She glanced at Francesca who was unconscious on the hospital bed, and slowly she kept the phone down on the desk, turning and leaving. She stepped out of the room and made her way to the bathroom.
She walked inside, shut the door behind her and with her back pressed up against the wall, she slid down till she could be in a squatting position, hands fisted against her knees.
Loredana finally broke down, unable to hold her tears anymore. She started crying, sobbing heavily with eyes glossed with wetness.
"My baby... My poor baby boy," she cried, her voice breaking until it was just a rasp. Tears poured down her face, blinding her.
Her chest was heaving so hard it hurt.
All over again. It was happening.
Watching her husband die before her eyes had completely destroyed her, killing everything she was. All she had were her two sons and only her one daughter. But her daughter was too far away from her.
She didn’t think after that, she would end up losing someone again. But here it was, her precious son was gone. She’d lost someone again, as if she were cursed.
Loredana sat down, pulling her legs to her chest. She buried her tear streaked face into her knees, crying hard, but not loud for anyone to hear.
"I couldn’t protect my own son. I couldn’t save him." Her chest heaved, choking on every breath she tried to hold back. Her tears dripped to the floor and she pressed her palm over her mouth, trying to muffle the sound—
—But it slipped out anyway.
"Please save him. Take me instead... It’s not fair. It’s not fair at all." She was shaking, trembling so hard that her words barely left her throat. "My baby boy..."
No one could see her like this. Not Lucian, because she couldn’t imagine how he must feel. They were twins, it must feel like losing half of him. Therefore, all she could do was cry behind a locked door, mourning the loss of her son, her whole body wrecked by grief.
She wasn’t delusional. The one person who’d ever let himself go berserk never survived it. Nikolas was as good as dead. But she was holding onto a flicker of hope, that somehow, he would be a different case from the expected outcome.
—---
Lucian rushed out of the car. Lucia was in his arms, but he was quick on his feet, the only thing on his mind being to see his wife. He rushed into the small hospital which was owned by their family doctor.
His gazes darted around. "My wife. M-my wife. Where is my wife?"
From the hallway, Loredana was coming out. She stopped on her track as he gaze landed on them.
"Lucia!" she exclaimed in surprise.
Lucia lifted her face off her father’s shoulder. "Grandma!" she quickly sprawled off her father’s arms. And ran over to Loredana who scooped her up into her arms.
"Og my goodness, you’re okay. I was so worried. Your mother was so worried about you!"
"I’m sorry...:" she apologized, wrapping her little arms around her neck in a hug. "I’m sorry." Her sniffles sounded and Loredana quickly patted her back and began caressing her hair.
"It’s okay. It’s okay, yum yum. Don’t cry. Everyone is okay. Your mommy is okay."
Lucian had already hurried past them, looking for his wife.
"She’s in room three," she said to him.
He made his way over without looking back. Stepping inside. his body froze. Francesca was still unconscious on the bed, a bag of drip connected to her. She looked sick, her lips pale.
He quickly shut the door and rushed over, falling on his knees next to the bed. "Fran? Sweetheart? What’s going on? Why are you here? W-what happened to you while I was gone?" 𝚏𝕣𝐞𝗲𝐰𝕖𝐛𝐧𝕠𝕧𝚎𝚕.𝐜𝚘𝗺
He’d digested enough pain for one day, and now seeing his wife this way, it was the last straw.
He knelt helplessly on the floor, forehead pressed against the bed as he cried silently to himself. "I’m sorry. I’m so sorry... Francesca."
He squeezed his eyes shut. He no longer knew what to do, where to turn. Lucian was confused, lost, his mind was muddled. But then, he felt a set of warm fingers curl into his hair, caressing softly.
"Lucy...?" The voice was soft and weak.
And he snapped his head up immediately to find out that Francesca was awake.
"Lucian, our daughter! Lucy, s-she’s missing. I don’t know what happened." She sat up too quickly on the bed, and the shock of it had her falling flat back on the bed. She grunted in pain. "I went up to look for her... and she was gone." Her lip quivered.
Lucian was still as a statue for a moment before he quickly shifted closer to her. He cupped her cheek, carefully checking her over. "My darling, Francesca. Our baby is okay. She’s fine. She was with me. Lucy is fine and well. She’s not missing."
"S-she’s not?"
