My Scheming Little Devil-Chapter 2026: Get Rid of That Kid
Halian Jing sighed: "Forget it, let’s not pursue this matter any further."
"Uncle—" Helian Nan’s eyes widened, shouting angrily. What was this? Just muddling through and letting that kid go, it was so unjust. He gritted his teeth, "How can you just let it go like this? He might well be colluding with the enemy, having been informed early, conspiring with those people to create this incident. He’s a trai..."
"Enough." Halian Jing’s face was dark and solemn, his authoritative voice booming, scaring Helian Nan into silence, "You yourself are full of suspicion; don’t rashly speculate about others. If this matter didn’t originate with you, we wouldn’t have fallen into the other side’s trap, seizing such an important leverage."
Seeing this scene, Helian Zheng quickly pulled Helian Nan aside, busy smiling and retreating.
Once outside, Helian Zheng warned his son in a low voice: "The trouble you’ve caused today is big enough, don’t further anger your uncle and risk losing your hard-won position."
Helian Nan was indignant.
"I’m just unwilling to accept it. It was just a mistake, anyone in my place would have been tricked. I’m just unlucky, that’s all. Why am I always scolded, while that kid is considered a hero, stealing all the limelight at critical moments?"
Helian Zheng snorted: "Isn’t it because you don’t have the drive? If you could be as shrewd as he is, knowing how to seize opportunities and present well before your uncle, you wouldn’t be in such a position now."
"Dad, I can accept it, everyone looks down on me anyway. But you, don’t you think it’s strange? He’s only been with our family for two years, yet in these two years, he’s stolen all the glory, suddenly becoming a core family figure. But Dad, you’ve worked diligently for my uncle for decades, and you’re his brother, yet for all you’ve done for the family, you haven’t earned nearly as much trust and recognition as that kid has in two years. I think it’s unfair for you!"
This struck a chord in Helian Zheng’s heart. Although he outwardly expressed respect and obedience to his brother Halian Jing, he indeed felt dissatisfied. As his brother, he had supported him for many years, contributing significantly to his career. Though not credited, he had surely labored. Yet, his brother never regarded him as his closest confidant nor entrusted him with very important positions.
Instead, those so-called old friends of his brother’s held military power, served as ministers of finance, or held important government positions, while he was stuck in an awkward position.
Whenever others mentioned him, Helian Zheng, they added the title of "the Councilman’s brother," which grated on him.
He always felt that his brother deliberately suppressed him, not allowing him too many opportunities to climb to better positions.
Even when the Queen proposed him for a high-ranking army position, he thought his great opportunity had finally come, feeling ecstatic and excited, but his brother recommended Duke Lie instead, snatching the opportunity away from him, which filled him with resentment.
Yet he ultimately understood his brother’s immense power. He knew well that arguing with him would result in no good outcomes for himself, so he endured silently.
His brother’s son, Helian Lingyun, died, and for a time, he thought now that his brother had no heir, surely he would start relying on him and his son more, grooming his son as the family heir.
But then suddenly, out of nowhere, appeared Ling Kong whose origins were unclear, and now, seeing Halian Jing’s attitude towards Ling Kong, there was a great possibility that the Helian family estate would be handed over to an outsider with no blood relation.
He had endured for so long, but this he could not swallow.
Regardless of planning for himself, he had to plan for his son Helian Nan, and he absolutely needed to eliminate that kid Ling Kong.
