My Servant System-Chapter 1282 1281: Trial After Trial
Kat PoV
After that first trial of mine we began to get into a rhythm that worked extremely well for all of us, finding that perfect balance of work to rest that kept us going and gave us the time we needed to not only recuperate physically but mentally as well.
There were many reasons that our minds had become extremely sensitive and quick to 'deplete' from the exhaustion, with the main one being the constant deadly situations that we were thrown into at the drop of a hat.
Going from one of those situations to another without having any time to relax in between would easily result in us making far too many mistakes to survive any of these trials, so the things that we had already been doing for 'fun' were being amplified whenever possible.
The two blue Demonesses and the Demon Wolf relished physical activity no matter what, and with a healing factor that was being boosted by the spiked tea we drank every night they were able to set themselves up a nice training course nearby the carriage, running laps through it over and over again before getting into debates about various weaponry, strategies and more as they basked in the sun.
Draka decided that if she was going to be stuck here for this long she might as well learn whatever she could, so the Dragonkin spent most of her time drifting between Anput, Leone and I as we furthered our skillset in each of our specializations.
We had acquired some materials from some of the trials - either as rewards or as things we had just picked up along the way or looted from corpses - which allowed the Jackalkin to get back to forging some gear for everyone that we might need.
Leone had herbs aplenty thanks to the extensions to the carriage and miniature garden we set up around it, so she was able to have Anput create her a rudimentary alchemy set that she used to brew as many potions as possible, now with Draka's help.
And then I was able to enchant any and everything that Anput made with a variety of enchantments as I strengthened them as much as I possibly could, showing Draka how to do so and getting a grasp on how talented she was with her magic.
There was definitely a difference between our mana control and efficiency, but where I might have been better than her in that regard the mana itself was so much more potent coming from her; like a snowstorm compared to a blizzard in terms of efficacy, which was somewhat disheartening to see.
She had been born into her power whereas I had 'worked' to get mine as perfect as it possibly could be naturally, and to see that her own work wasn't as devoted as mine but she still had better mana was definitely not a nice feeling, but lamenting something like this wasn't going to help me.
Not when I also technically could have chosen to have been born something as powerful as her if I had spent those points right way back when... but that is neither here nor there, and as such I was more focused on just learning more about the Dragonkin's powers to understand her better and to understand where I could make use of her whenever we went into a trial together.
That was a rarity though since - like Lilith had suggested - we were split up into two distinct groups that rarely mingled together whenever we went into those trials, with the two blue Demonesses getting split up and Draka and I getting split up as well, alongside Anput and Lady Fenyras usually being separated too.
All of the time we had was also devoted to plotting out a more efficient and worthy use of the time we were going to spend here, and we did so by breaking down all of the trials to determine which ones we needed to prioritize, which ones were too dangerous and which ones were going to need unique teams.
Like the trial that required lovers to enter, or two of the same combined element magicians; there were trials for seemingly every sort of requirement out there, and the city was far larger than we had thought, at least it felt that way when we passed by hundreds of doors with trials etched onto them...
So we began to settle into a pattern of completing the easier, yet also very rewarding trials at as quick of a pace as we could manage, with some being finished in under two days within the trial space while some still took a handful of days, if not weeks to complete.

The variation of the time needed to complete the trials was also seemingly random, since there had been another 'hunt this monster' trial that Leone, Mom and I had gone into that only took us three days to complete since the monster had decided to hunt us instead, while another 'kill everyone' trial took Jahi, Draka, Lilith and Lady Fenyras two and a half grueling weeks as they were forced to lay siege to a fortress on their own.
The rewards always made these things worth it though, and while they weren't as crazy as Lilith's second Core or some sort of ability to flip your mana typing they were incredibly potent, like smoothing out the mana pathways in your body or a giant hunk of extremely pure, durable gold that was capable of taking on whatever mana type it's wielder had.
There were all sorts of goodies for us to claim at the end of these trials, and soon enough a week and a half had passed as we stuck to this one portion of the island, heading into the city and hunting for the specific doors we had marked before returning immediately upon completion.
It was during that week though that we had come to learn that someone else had been here, either currently or before us, since there had been quite a few trials we had found that had already been completed, which was a tad bit worrying.
