My Servant System-Chapter 1350 - 1349: Group Onslaught (13)
Feeling the giant canine headed 'monster' rush past me - rushing straight towards the red skinned mage in the back who was supporting me - flooded my heart with adrenaline and dread in equal measure.
What if she couldn't react in time to such an oppressive melee fighter; she had the reaction times, sure, but the footwork and control over her body wasn't always equal to that ability to react to the things happening!
I needed to help her, to alleviate at least some of the pressure to ensure her safety; that was where the adrenaline pumping through my veins came to my aid, heightening my senses many fold and flooding me with power waiting to be unleashed.
Spinning on my heel and watching - in what felt like slow motion - as the Dog Goddess streaked towards Leone, I leaned forwards and buried my foot into the sand before launching myself at her again, mana coiling around my leg and pushing me off of the uneven, unsteady ground.
Whether or not I could truly reach the Vampire Princess in time was plaguing my mind, though I also came to the immediate realization that I didn't have to reach her, but instead I needed to reach the Dog Goddess.
That shaved off many feet of sand that I would need to cover far quicker than this very agile giant we were fighting, saving me time that was far more precious than any gold or gemstones that we lined our pockets with.
I didn't even need to bring raw strength to bear against the Dog Goddess either, instead needing nothing more than to just hinder her momentum and free up Leone just a little, though the closer I got to the black skinned streak the more I realized I was panicking far too much.
I realized that entirely because the Dog Goddess was suddenly throwing herself to the side, attempting to divert her momentum from carrying her forwards and instead hoping to go around Leone.
The reason for her suddenly altering her forward trajectory?
A giant spike of bubbling, flaming blood that was spinning lazily in front of Leone, pointed right at the Dog Goddess' heart and tracking it as she got ever closer; instead of launching it and allowing the Dog Goddess to potentially avoid the attack, Leone held back and instead treated her magic like a lance.
It was a lance that our canine friend might have impaled herself on if she hadn't been so willing to twist her leg around and dodge the attack entirely, and even as she let out a yowl of agony she was still very much a threat. freewёbnoνel.com
Before Leone could launch the spike at her now that she was on her knee, the Dog Goddess swung her spear at the spike and shattered it, her own flames combatting Leone's and causing the two different kinds of mana composing the Vampire's attack to explode as their precarious balance was disrupted.
With the immediate threat from the front dispelled of, her attention was immediately shifted over to me, though the timing of this all was just too quick for her to do much besides snarl and send a blast of ash straight at my face.
Now I had to dodge an attack, but where the now kneeling monster had been moving with all of its might to make use of this gap it had created, I had held back a little after realizing Leone wasn't as 'helpless' as I had thought.
That small sliver of speed I had abandoned was now instead used for control, and I was narrowly able to spin around the cloud of ash so that I could continue my sprint, bringing me face to the face with the Dog Goddess.
She wasn't expecting it but her instincts didn't seem to mind; as I swung that heavy, ice encrusted War Pick at her skull the Dog Goddess seemed to 'grin' at me before swinging her head forwards, cracking the bridge of her snout against my head and causing my vision to go black for a second.
The impact alone just halted everything happening in my brain as it rattled around inside of my skull, and I could feel the very sensitive meat bruise slightly, flooding my head with very sharp agony and robbing me of quite a lot of my facilities for a few seconds.
My opponent seemingly had the same issue as I did, but where I was rendered almost useless the Dog Goddess was still able to raise her hand and barely block the sphere of blood that had been shot at her.
Upon initial contact the sphere exploded, blowing the black hand into pieces and sending meat and bone flying everywhere, but there was a very obvious lack of liquid; that was where the attack really came in, and as my vision returned I could see the sphere latching onto the stump hungrily.
It pulsated and tried to burrow its way into the Dog Goddess' arm, attempting to leech onto her and begin attacking her from within, but the problem had a very obvious solution for a monster of this caliber.
Raising her arm and staring at it for a brief moment, the Dog Goddess came to terms with her action before parting her jaws and biting down into her arm - just below the elbow - before she shook her head, popping the bones free and allowing her to tear the limb off with frightening ease.
Leone was trying to control the sphere, and I was still groggily getting to my feet, so the Dog Goddess was allowed to just bite off her own arm before spitting it out with a very angry, very pained howl, spilling her own blood and doing more damage to herself than we had caused this entire time.
Flushing my body with mana I quickly leapt back as I felt her own begin to spike, and upon reaching Leone's side I muttered "This was... something...", barely able to really think straight as my head continued to pound harder than I had ever been...
"Indeed."
Even just hearing her mutter that made me nauseous, but the howling was definitely far worse, only to then have that be outclassed by the sudden flash of Fire Mana that erupted from the Dog Goddess' fur.
Scarlet flames licked at her skin before sliding over it smoothly like a natural second layer, and where her left arm had once been now a writhing mass of flames gathered, loosely resembling the limb she had lost and allowing her to scoop up that spear as she glared at us.
The hate in her eyes only seemed to make the flames burn hotter, turning them a deeper, more enraged ruby red that pulsated with power as she stood back at her full, terrifying height, looming over us and clearly pissed she had to even be in this position.
